New 'Blade Runner 2049' trailer teases more of Deckard’s story
We got our first real look at the upcoming Blade Runner sequel in May and today we get a little more with a new trailer. In this one we're given more views of the futuristic California setting and a few more plot details. And maybe even another hint as to Rick Deckard's true identity.
Belated sequel 'Blade Runner 2049' debuts next October
Reports have been circulating about Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner sequel for a long time now and today the official title of the follow-up was announced. Blade Runner 2049 is the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi film that will star Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling. Other than the October 6, 2017 premiere date, little else is known about the movie at this point. Of course, the title itself suggests that the film takes place in 2049, 30 years after the storyline of the original. And thanks to Oculus, we know that the movie will be available in VR.
Tom Clancy's 'Jack Ryan' is now an Amazon exclusive series
Tom Clancy's famous fictional CIA agent Jack Ryan is back in action after 2013's critical and commercial disappointment Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Amazon has greenlit a 10-episode series, exclusive to Prime Video, that will star John Krasinski, of The Office fame, as the titular hero. Plot details are scarce, though it seems the series will be an origins story, with Ryan being an up-and-coming CIA analyst fighting terrorist groups.
Harrison Ford 'battered, but ok' after crash-landing on a golf course
Actor Harrison Ford (Blade Runner, Indiana Jones, Star Wars -- seriously, it's Harrison Ford) reportedly suffered "moderate injuries" after the PT-22 he was flying (presumably with special modifications) crash-landed at a Los Angeles golf course this afternoon. According to the Associated Press, Ford was breathing and conscious when he was taken to the hospital where he is listed in fair to moderate condition. Naturally TMZ is all over the story, with a witness account of seeing a plane "nose dive" into a tee box at the 8th hole, and audio of his contact with the Santa Monica Airport control tower reporting engine failure. According to a tweet by his son, the actor is "battered, but OK." [Image credit: Associated Press]
Harrison Ford will return in 'Blade Runner' sequel
Need more good news after today's net neutrality ruling? Deadline and Variety report it has been confirmed that Harrison Ford will return to the role of Rick Deckard in the Blade Runner sequel that's currently in the works. Ridley Scott is producing the film, Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original movie) and Michael Green are writing, and Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) is in negotiations to direct.The movie is supposed to start shooting next summer, with a script that already garnered high praise from Ford and is said to take place several decades after the original. As an added bonus, that gives him plenty of time to recover from any Star Wars-related injuries and us an opportunity to check out Amazon's upcoming (and also based on a Philip K. Xbox modder becomes a fugitive, one-armed man stays out of it
Jason Jones, the upstanding proprietor of one ACME Game Store, thought he was experiencing just another day in the booming, illegally modded Xbox retail market (and not the coyote-pandering dynamite and rocket shoes market, as you may have incorrectly anticipated). Little did he know that his latest customer, one with suspiciously long arms, had unseen motives that eventually led to the law knocking on the door. An undercover investigator for the Entertainment Software Association (they have those?) made sure that Mr. Jones and his accomplice, Jonathan Bryant, were rightly punished for selling chipped Xbox consoles, each one loaded with over 50 pirated games and selling for between $225 and $500. In addition to being slapped with a fine of $2,648 by the ESA, Mr. Jones will be equipped with an electronic bracelet and confined to his home. Should he attempt to leave, the bracelet will let out a high-pitched yelp and large men with guns will promptly arrive and shove him back into his room. A third modder, Pei "Patrick" Cai, evaded this horrendous fate by becoming a full-fledged fugitive. It's not nearly as dramatic as being on the run for murder, but police have nevertheless been advised to keep an eye out for a shifty looking fellow with a chip on his solder. (OOF!)
iPod used to steal $100 million (in a movie)
The iPod is being turned into everything from Halloween costumes to stethoscope training tools, and now it apparently is being used to help steal hundreds of millions of dollars - in Hollywood movies, that is (don't worry, this won't be a spoiler).Apparently Harrison Ford uses an iPod to permanently borrow $100 million from his bank in the new Firewall flick. Rick Warner, over at Bloomberg, already critiqued it quite nicely: "I don't doubt that computerized banking is ripe for theft, but the way Ford does it [sic] seems as far-fetched as James Frey's resume."While I think it's great that the iPod and Apple are receiving all this fantastic buzz, I'm having a hard time understanding how silly product placement like this benefits anyone, let alone who instigated it. How far is stuff like this going to go? Are we going to see exploding iPods hurled down hallways to destroy genetically modified monsters in a forthcoming sequel to Doom?
