Sure, checking out the benchmarks on the Puma-based Satellite A305 is all fine and dandy, but we just know you're craving more. Right? Good. Here we have a solid foursome of AMD Puma-packed notebooks, each one from a different walk of life. As expected, details were pretty limited at the kiosk, but at least it gives us hope that these machines (or something similar) should be hitting store shelves in the not-too-terribly-distant future. Go on down to the read link to check out the spruced up HP 6535us, unnamed Toshiba, Acer TravelMate 5530 and one other shy guy that managed to keep hidden.

Remember those AMD Business Class desktops we told you about, oh, just hours ago? Looks like the first of the family are starting to roll out, beginning with the HP Compaq dc5850 and dx2450 Business Desktop PCs. Both rigs support "next-generation AMD Business Class processors" (that's the Athlon X2, Phenom X3 and Phenom X4) along with the usual complement of slots / ports, and while the former gets integrated ATI Radeon 3100 graphics, AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 2.0 technology, up to 8GB of RAM, an optional dual-drive RAID setup and a dual-layer DVD writer, the latter boasts NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE graphics, room for 4GB of RAM and up to 500GB of SATA HDD space. Best of all, both machines come in pretty easy on the wallet, with the dc5850 hitting in early May for $599 and the dx2450 available now for $369.

We've already witnessed Intel's Penryn family filter into a select few of HP Compaq's business-minded lappies, and similar to Dell's update-as-we-go mindset, the firm is refreshing four more models today (while leaving others to age further). As of this very moment in time, the 8510p, 8510w, 8710p and 8710w laptops can be configured with the 2.1GHz T8100, 2.4GHz T8300, 2.5GHz T9300 or 2.6GHz T9500, depending on machine. Granted, you'll pay a pretty penny for those smaller, cooler processors, but we're sure the corporate card won't even notice the added weight.[Thanks, Christopher]Read - HP Compaq's 8510pRead - HP Compaq's 8710pRead - HP Compaq's 8510wRead - HP Compaq's 8710w

Although HP has already stuffed Intel's latest Core 2 Duo chips into its Pavilion lineup, now it appears that some of its business-minded units are also getting the Penryn treatment. As of now, the 2.1GHz T8100 is an available option on the 6720s and 6820s, while the 2.4GHz T8300 becomes available on the 6510b and 6710b. Reportedly, the firm's 8700 lineup will be joining the club within "the next two weeks," but we won't blame you if you head elsewhere in the meantime.[Via CNET]Read - HP Compaq 6720sRead - HP Compaq 6820sRead - HP Compaq 6510bRead - HP Compaq 6710b

  • HP bumps SSD to business class with new enterprise desktops

We wouldn't normally get excited about two more random HP enterprise desktops, but you know how we love all things SSD, and if the HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop with SSD lights a fire in corporate IT departments, sales volumes may actually drive the price of SSD units down. So, uh, wow, check out this hot new HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop! Man, can you imagine how worker productivity would increase due to its speedy 2.3GHz Core 2 Duo processor? And how many more charts and folders you could fit on a desk thanks to its 46 percent smaller footprint? And let's not even talk about the energy savings due to its compliance with the latest Energy Star guidelines -- just TOO exciting. Truly the progressive, "with-it" large enterprise can't afford NOT to purchase the $1,258 HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop with SSD in large enough volumes to affect the commodity pricing of SSD storage. No sir! There is also a $579 HP Compaq dc5800 Business PC that has a regular hard drive, pictured after the break. It's pretty much the same, but instead of productivity apps, it, uh, only runs MySpace. Yeah, that's what we heard for real.

Hope you're not tired of HP gear yet, 'cause the company's also got a trio of new laptops competing for your attention today. Those include the 14.1-inch 6520, 15.4-inch 6720s model, and the 17-inch 6820s model, each of which boast your choice of Core 2 Duo or Celeron processors, along with hard drives up to 160GB and RAM up to 2GB (or 4GB on the 17-inch model). Otherwise, you can expect the usual Intel GMA X3100 graphics on the two smaller models or ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 graphics on the 17 incher, with a Blu-ray drive also an exclusive option to the 6820s, and an ExpressCard slot, SD card slot, and built-in Bluetooth standard across the board. Still no word on pricing of availability, although each are said to be "affordable."

Shortly after loosing a slew of AMD-based desktops, HP and Compaq have now unleashed a trio of Pavilion and Presario laptops powered by Advanced Micro Devices. The 17-inch Pavilion dv9500z series offers up a nice selection of AMD Turion 64 X2 processors, Windows Vista, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M (or optional 8400M GS), WiFi / Bluetooth, a built-in webcam and microphone, an optional Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard, up to 500GB of HDD storage, a dual-layer DVD writer (or a HD DVD reading drive), and an eight-cell Li-ion to boot. The slightly smaller (that's 15.4-inches, for those keeping count) Pavilion dv6500z series offers up a fairly similar array of specs in a more compact chassis, while the lower-end 15.4-inch Compaq Presario V6500Z series steps down to an AMD Sempron and offers up less upgrades. All three units can be ordered right now through HP's website, and while the Compaq unit starts at $499, the dv6500z and dv9500z get going at $749.99 and $999.99, respectively.[Via NotebookReview]

As you'd expect with any laptop carrying a corporate agenda, the 12.1-inch HP Compaq 2210b/CT isn't anything too riveting, but it's not a half bad option if you're scouting something small (and strictly for the office). Weighing in at just 3.7-pounds, this ultraportable packs a modest 1.86GHz Celeron processor, 512MB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, an optional integrated optical drive, a 1,280 x 800 resolution panel, Vista Home Basic, and your choice of a four- or eight-cell battery. Additionally, you'll find an SD card slot, a trio of USB 2.0 ports, VGA / S-Video outputs, gigabit Ethernet, audio in / out, and an ExpressCard slot to make that 3G wireless card feel at home. Get your boss' credit card ready -- this one lands next month for a mere ¥89,880 ($760).[Via Impress]

  • HP Compaq's 2710p Tablet PC in the wild and shipping

You won't find a press release for it, but the wait for the 12-inch, HP Compaq 2710p Tablet PC is over. Orders placed with HP today will ship July 25th or August 3rd if you opt for the $199 1xEV-DO (Verizon) Broadband module for full-on wWAN connectivity. In fact, AVING already has pics of the sleek, 3.6-pound, LED backlit convertible mucking about in the wild including this shot of it snuggled up to, and publicly mounting its docking station after a few too many celebratory champagnes. • Pricing announced for HP Compaq's 2710p Tablet PC

    07.16.2007

Time to start counting those pennies, HP just announced the pricing on their new 12.1-inch, 3.6-pound 2710p Tablet PC. $1,649 gets you through the door sans OS but with a 1.06GHz Core 2 Duo ULV U7500 processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, GMA X3100 graphics, and 60GB 4200 PATA disk. Bump it up to $2,478 for a 1.2GHz U7600, 80GB 4200RPM PATA disk, 2GB memory, Bluetooth 2.0, and a Vista Business pre-install. Each config brings that thin, bright, battery friendly WXGA LED-backlit display (with digitizer) we've heard rumored since January. However, HP confusingly masks this important fact with superfluous marketing speak by calling 'em "Illumi-Lite" displays. In fact, you won't find a mention of LED backlighting anywhere on the product page, not even in the detailed specifications. Oh right, consumers are idiots... gotcha. Still no release date so Lenovo X-series owners can rest easy for the time being. [Thanks, Ravi V.]

Just as we mentioned in May, the HP Compaq 2710p Tablet PC is definitely on its way, having just received FCC approval. The 3.6-pound, 12.1-inch tablet runs on an Intel Core 2 Duo ULV, features Bluetooth, 802.11/a/g/n, and offers an integrated EvDO or HSDPA broadband module, thus making it seriously enticing to anyone looking for an ultralight with some real connectivity options. Sure, Apple's latest 15-inch MacBook Pro may have stolen the thunder from HP Compaq's 2510p by getting its LED-backlit machine out to customers first, but for the purely Wintel crowd, this one's sure to please. In some foreign lair, the amigos (and chicas) over at TecnoSquad were able to apprehend a loose 2510p laptop long enough to snap a few detailed pictures showing off its exterior and even its posture while parked in a docking station. You already know what's inside, so make sure you leap past the jump in order to catch some external photos including one that unscientifically shows it as the brightest of the three pictured machines.

  • HP Compaq 2710p tablet PC coming in July?

HP Compaq's tablet range is the latest to get a new machine, this time in the form of the 2710p tablet PC which is apparently the replacement for the tc4400. Specs are very sparse for this particular model -- apparently all the source could dig up was that it'd come with 802.11n wireless and, wait for it, an optional webcam configuration. Other than that, this aluminum metal (at least, the render looks like real metal) tablet is due to hit sometime around July this year. So, what's next from the sieve that is HP's laptop department?

We've already seen the AMD versions of HP's new Compaq business laptops, the 6515b and 6715b, but now, thanks to a couple of leaked maintenance manuals, we've got word of Intel Santa Rosa versions of those two models: the 6510b and 6710b. Just like their AMD brethren, both models come with a WWAN option, and the main difference between the two is the 14.1-inch WXGA screen in the 6510b and 15.4-inch WXGA or WSXGA+ screens in the 6710b. Processors range from the 1.8GHz T7100 to the 2.4GHz T7700, and both stick to Intel GM965 integrated graphics. Both laptops can be specced pretty much any way you can imagine, and can come with anything from Vista Business to SuSe Linux pre-installed. No word on price or availability, but with all sorts of Santa Rosa-tops getting ready to launch, it shouldn't be much longer of a wait.[Via Notebook Italia]Read - HP Compaq 6510b manual (Warning: PDF link)Read - HP Compaq 6710b manual (Warning: PDF link)

  • HP Compaq nw9440 and nw8440 Mobile Workstations

    by

    06.22.2006

It looks as if Lenovo isn't the only student of IBM laptop engineering these days, since the new HP Compaq nw9440 and nw8440 business laptops sure seem to "borrow" a few elements from that vaunted ThinkPad design. Other than the displays -- a 17-inch 1680 x 1050 LCD for the nw9440 and the same resolution for the nw8440's 15-inch LCD -- the two laptops pretty much share specs across the board. They both feature 1.66GHz Core Duo processors, 1GB of RAM, up to an 80GB 7200RPM SATA HDD, and 256MB ATI FireGL V5200 card for the nw8440 compared to the 256MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500M in the nw9440. Both laptops have a smattering of connectivity, including Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g WiFi, Firewire, USB 2.0, 7-in-1 card reader and a mini D-sub port for external displays. The nw9440 throws in a numeric keypad, and both laptops have a pointing stick for business mousing purists. At 7.5 pounds, 1.3-inches thick and 6 pounds, 1.1-inches thick respectively, neither laptop is a total lightweight, but they definitely land on the compact side of their categories. There's also a decent 4+ hour battery available for both models. Coming to Japan in July, the nw8440 is going for around $2,175, while the nw9440 manages for $2,266. Both models can be bumped to 2.16GHz and 2GB of RAM for $1,500 more and $2000 more respectively. Hopefully the pricing model is a bit more reasonable by the time these get to the States.Read - HP Compaq nw9440Read - HP Compaq nw8440
