  • Indie Royale's ten-game Mystery Bundle could be anything

Well this is awkward. See, we were hoping to tell you about Indie Royale's new "Mystery Bundle," but there are only two confirmed games we can really talk about. We can say for sure that the ten-game bundle features The Sun at Night and Hero of the Kingdom, PC games packed with Steam and Desura keys as well as DRM-free download options available to buyers. While Indie Royale values the bundle at $70, it's available now for the pay-the-minimum price of 99 cents. Here's the catch: Indie Royale will reveal a new game in the bundle each day and will increase its price by 30 cents with every reveal, so those buying in today while the bulk of the games are unknown will get the whole lot at its lowest price. We hate to speculate, but what if Indie Royale is pulling an Oprah on us and one of the eight other games is actually a new car? What if one title is the leg lamp from A Christmas Story, or the concept of love? The possibilities are endless. The Mystery Bundle ends on Wednesday, October 15. [Image: Indie Royale]

  • Steam keys for Stained now available to Indie Royale customers

Developer RealAxis has issued Steam keys for its Greenlit side-scrolling action game Stained to Indie Royale bundle buyers in response to community feedback and fan demand. Earlier this week, RealAxis denied Indie Royale customers their promised Stained Steam keys, citing unexpectedly low sales following its release. RealAxis originally launched Stained as a featured title in Indie Royale's Debut 3 Bundle, pledging to issue Steam keys to buyers after earning community approval via Steam Greenlight. Steam users who purchased Stained as part of the Debut 3 Bundle should soon receive a key via their Indie Royale accounts. [Image: RealAxis]

If you're waiting to receive a Steam key for the Greenlight-approved PC side-scroller Stained, you can stop waiting. Developer RealAxis announced that it no longer plans to issue promised Steam keys for players who purchased the game as part of a bundle. When Stained was featured in Indie Royale's Debut 3 bundle last year, RealAxis pledged to supply buyers with a Steam key after the game earned community approval via Steam Greenlight. Indie Royale's Debut bundles are assembled to promote Greenlight hopefuls, and its organizers note that "Developers have almost always provided Steam keys for Indie Royale games that have subsequently been greenlit and then appeared on Steam." RealAxis blames its decision on declining sales, and claims that it only earned around $3,000 in revenue between Indie Royale's bundle and purchases via Steam. "The game is not selling at all and there is no hope," a RealAxis representative explained. "I think we are already doomed so we are abandoning the process of distributing the keys. We will continue to do what is required to make the living and provide support to game related questions twice a week. If you really love this game you should consider buying it on steam else I think you already had your share of enjoyment when you purchased the game via IR-Bundle for 50 cent. Dubbed the "Mixer Bundle," Indie Royale's latest collection features a wildly disparate selection of games united only by their sizable discounts. Included in the Bundle are Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, Alien Spidy, Miner Wars 2081, Dollar Dash, The Journey Down: Chapter 1, Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, Foreign Legion: Multi Massacre, Final Slam 2 and Party of Sin. Additionally, the Bundle stretches the modern definition of "indie" a bit to include both Duke Nukem and its sequel, Duke Nukem 2, games developed and published by Apogee Software at a time when developers releasing games independently was still the industry standard. As with all Indie Royale bundles, the price you pay for these games hinges on the average amount paid by other customers. As of now, all of this can be yours for as little as $4.78. If you decide to pay more for the Bundle, know that any purchases above $7 will be rewarded with a copy of Darkman007's "Chiptunes - 2014" album in either .mp3 or .flac format. [Image: 3D Realms]

  • Indie Royale 'Debut 9' bundle makes first-timers available on the cheap

    01.23.2014

Indie Royale has posted a new bundle of tempting indie delicacies from first-time developers, all of whom are currently fighting on Steam Greenlight for placement on Valve's digital distribution service. The Debut 9 bundle, available for little over the next five days, tosses together six indie debuts: Airship Dragoon, Little Trus Man, Sky Nations, Inescapable, Dark Gates and Chronicles of a Dark Lord: Episode 1 Tides of Fate. Airship Dragoon, from YorkshireRifles, is a turn-based squad combat game that takes place across two campaigns, while Little Trus Man is a side-scrolling puzzle game with stacking elements from PRC Production LTD. Sky Nations is a multiplayer sandbox game from MrBenjammin where players create airships and wage war, and Inescapable is a 2D sci-fi action-adventure game set on a remote interplanetary mining operation from MagneticRealms. The last two are DFour Games' Dark Gates, a top-down homage to paper RPG games, and Chronicles of a Dark Lord: Episode 1 Tides of Fate – a strategy game, set in a dark world, with an Active Time Battle system not unlike the one popularized by the Final Fantasy series. An additional unknown game will be revealed later. The current minimum for The Debut 9 bundle is under $4 – so if you just want the games, you can throw that much in and get to playing. Pitching in $6 or more will guarantee a bonus chiptune album, which you can sample here, from artist WMD.

Discount PC gaming retailer Indie Royale has started a new initiative dubbed Daily Royale whose purpose is to offer even bigger discounts on select games. The catch? You'll need to be fast to take advantage of these deals. Though Daily Royale only sells digital games, it does so using redeemable codes, and the site usually only has a limited number of codes to work with. The inaugural offering from the service is space shooter Strike Suit Zero at $5 (instead of its normal $20 price point), and with just under 67 hours left, Daily Royale has 942 codes remaining. Expect those to go quickly once word spreads of this site. Despite its name, Daily Royale plans to offer two new sales a week initially, with more frequent sales appearing once the site has established itself. If you'd like to make sure you're up to date on what Daily Royale has on offer, signing up for the site's newsletter is the fastest way to get updates on new sales. For those of you unwilling to leave the warm, soothing cocoon of social media however, there are also Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep tabs on.

The Indie Royale series continued on this week with The Sigma Bundle, a seven-game offering that comes with a question: What's in the box the mystery game? We won't know until it's revealed on the bundle's page, but what we do know is that the seven-game pack currently includes a first-person shooter, space simulator, real-time strategy game, two platformers and tactical and first-person RPGs. The entirety of The Sigma Bundle is compatible with Windows platforms, but only Gravi, Skyward Collapse, 3089, Survive, and Freedom Fall are available DRM-free. Starpoint Gemini and Starvoid come only in the form of keys for Steam or Desura. Mac users will be able to play Gravi, Skyward Collapse, 3089 and Freedom Fall, while Linux fans can have Gravi and 3089. If your interest is peaked, the minimum price at the time of this writing is just under $6, with n00bstar's "operat0r" album thrown in if you pay $7 or more. Lots of indie games want to get on Steam via the Steam Greenlight voting system, but getting recognition in an industry with great work coming from everywhere can be a bit tough. So, with their powers combined, eight games have joined forces to make The Debut 6 Bundle for a little more exposure. The bundle's contents include shmups, RPGs, a third-person shooter, a rhythm game and a puzzle-oriented adventure. HeroCraft has also contributed FootLOL: Epic Fail League, a take on soccer that incorporates airstrikes, stampedes of sheep and rows of cannons. The logistics sound messy, but if anyone could get that FootLOL established as a real sport, I would be so happy. Every game in The Debut 6 Bundle is available on PC, with Saturday Morning RPG, FootLOL and Dualsus also available for Mac. At the time of this writing, the minimum bid allowed for the bundle is $5. You'll also get YERZMYEY's Microsongs album if you pay $6 more, which the trailer above uses the opening track of.

    10.16.2013

If you follow Indie Royale, you may have noticed an unusual trend among its assorted compilations of indie-developed PC games. Contrasting rival bundle curators, Indie Royale does not number its releases; instead, its collections launch with bizarre titles. Some names are picked for obvious reasons -- The Back To School 2 Bundle premiered as the fall semester began in September, and the Indie Gamer Chick Bundle featured a series of games picked by a popular online reviewer. Others are real head-scratchers: The Starry Nights Bundle, The Spiral Groove Bundle, The Prairie Dog Bundle, and last month's Alaskan Bundle are a few that come to mind. Indie Royale organizer Graeme Boxall shed some light on the organization's name selection process, and is running a contest with Joystiq to name the next themed bundle. Read on for more details.

Indie Royale has launched its 50th bundle, The Golden Jubilee Bundle, and has included two redeemable keys within the bundle's related email to all of its "regular email newsletter" subscribers. The keys also include a digital copy of Cold Storage's Tik Tak album. For newsletter-less gamers, paying the minimum price ($2.20 at the time of this writing) will grant you keys for Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, Star Hammer Tactics, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, Bird Assassin, Amazing Zombie Defense and Zombie Football Carnage. Patrons should note that Akaneiro is a free-to-play game, but that the Jubilee Bundle includes a key for "$4.99 worth of in-game items." Donating $5 or more will also net you Tik Tak. Every game included in the bundle is playable on Windows via Desura. Akaneiro is also available for Mac and Linux.

    09.10.2013

Indie Royale has prepared yet another bundle to celebrate the youngsters' return to school. The Back to School Bundle 2 features six games in total, five known and one mystery offering. Thunder Wolves, from Most Wanted Entertainment, headlines this Indie Royale bundle, offering helicopter-based dogfights in an arcade shooter setting. Stellar Impact from Tindalos Interactive is next on the list, presenting players with tactical space combat as they work to upgrade their ships, weaponry and personnel. Divo, a puzzle-platformer from Jugadorgl, is perhaps the most unusual of the group; it's a game where players control a hamster stuck in "a cyber wheel." Then there's 100% Orange Juice, an interactive board game by Orange_Juice for up to four players, and Apple Jack 1&2 – a double pack of the noted platformer that made its debut on Xbox Live Indie Games in 2010. This bundle will be available for chump change over the next week. The current minimum is $5.17, and anyone who forks over more than the minimum will also score a bonus album: "Chiptunes 2013" by Darkman007.

    07.24.2013

Eight PC ports of what Indie Gamer Chick, a site devoted to Xbox Live Indie Games, calls "the best Xbox Live Indie Games ever made" are all available in the latest Indie Royale bundle. Throwing down more than $8 will guarantee three soundtracks in addition to the games. Dead Pixels, a zombie shooter with a hard survival slant from CSR-Studios, headlines this latest Indie Royale bundle and is joined by Brilliant Blue-G's 2D platformer with light RPG elements, Chester. Gravity-flipping side-scroller Antipole from Saturnine Games leaps into the fray, as does Monster Jail Games' quirky retro romp, Lasercat. Rounding out the bundle are espionage puzzle game SpyLeaks, space-age shmup Orbitron: Revolution, top-down racer Little Racers Street and Smooth Operators: Call Center Chaos, a game where players create and manage their own call center. A handful of the games are also vying for Steam Greenlight support, if you feel like tossing a few votes their way. As of now, the current minimum is around $4 for this Indie Royale bundle. As with all Indie Royale bundles, this one will be available for a week.

The latest Indie Royale bundle is a re-run, chosen by fans, and it features the triumphant return of Really Big Sky, Eufloria, Runespell: Overture, Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death 7. It's available for five more days for whatever the minimum price is (usually less than $5). Those who pay $7 or more can snag Disasterpeace's chiptune album Rise Of The Obsidian Interstellar. Indie Royale is a pay-what-you-want bundle system with a twist – there is a minimum price, and the only way to knock it down for subsequent buyers is to pay more than that. Bonus, paying more also helps out the developers who provide the games that you want to play in that bundle.
