  • Jack Black + battle axe = awesome episode of Brutal Thoughts

We weren't fans of the last episode of Brütal Thoughts, Jack Black's bi-weekly video series promoting Brütal Legend. But boy, does this make up for it. Black wields a rather impressive battle axe and uses it to great effect! It's obvious the actor is having a lot of fun with his role; it suits him rather perfectly, no? Just make sure you watch all the way to the end -- things will be broken.See also: Tim Schafer electrocutes Jack Black on video Jack Black pumped for 'that Brutal Legend movie' Jack Black's latest 'Brutal Thoughts' missing Schafer, humor

Jack Black returns for yet another episode of "Brutal Thoughts." The weakest episode so far explores the "wild" world of roadies, courtesy of someone named "Meatbones." The punchline ... is rather mediocre. There's no Schafer in this episode, and even Black looks like he's phoning this one in. Give it a watch, and then relive the (much better) previous installments here: Tim Schafer electrocutes Jack Black on video Jack Black pumped for 'that Brutal Legend movie'

We hope EA is paying Jack Black a pretty hearty check, as he's been a pretty vocal advocate of Tim Schafer's upcoming Brutal Legend. It probably helps that he's the main character, but we're still surprised by the actor's continued presence in the game's promotion. The latest episode of "Brutal Thoughts" has Schafer doling out the pain to Black by transforming him into a human videogame character.See also:Jack Black pumped for 'that Brutal Legend movie'

In anticipation of his upcoming movie game, Brütal Legend, Jack Black is getting pumped. He's curling axes and mic stands, making silly faces and, apparently, taking toxic levels of anabolic steroids. Things are ready and on course for the game's October release then, no?Yes. Thankfully confirmed by a calm and collected Tim Schafer halfway through the video, the game's "almost done" and ready for the stage this fall. Maybe Schafer could've told Jack before he took all those steroids? Meh, we'll consider it payback for School of Rock. We kid! We kid!

We imagine that we'll have several more looks at Brütal Legend before it drops in Rocktober, and that's just fine with us. We took a look at the opening scenes of the game back in April, along with other key moments like the creation of The Deuce (protagonist Eddie's hot-rod) the start of a headbangin' revolution. This time around we spent an hour with the legendary Tim Schafer as he took us into the full-fledged stage battle mode.If there's one thing we took away from it, it's that people will be going nutshit for this game. Find out what that means after the break.%Gallery-63381%

click to make brutally large! While others were stuck in boring panels or roped into demos of ridiculous new peripherals, we spent an afternoon during last week's Game Developers Conference at Double Fine, the idea factory of Tim Schafer, designer of such bona fide classics as Full Throttle, Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. We were there to see his latest, hotly anticipated creation in action for the first time -- a little game you may have heard of called Brütal Legend. We went in with a rough idea of what to expect: an action game set in a world inspired by heavy metal, with, we hoped, loads of trademark Schafer humor. We came out having seen a game that honestly exceeded our expectations. Brütal Legend is what you'd expect from Double Fine and more. It's not just a one-man crusade; it's a war set to a thunderous soundtrack and filled with surprises. %Gallery-49211%

  • Brutal Legend appearing at Spike VGAs (oh, and Jack Black as host)

Though still wandering a shadowy, publisher-less limbo, Brütal Legend stands tall in the minds of gamers everywhere, who are eager to see (and, perchance, if the Gods are favorable to their plight, experience) the latest from Tim Schafer and his crew at Double Fine. It is something of a blessing that we're able to count master thespian, raconteur, and all around rabble-rouser Jack Black amongst that group of gamers – not only is Mr. Black the centerpiece of Brütal Legend, he's the host of this year's Video Game Awards on Spike. Astute readers may know we've had our fair share of complaints about the VGAs in the past. While last year included a roster of worthy winners (note: this blogger was, and is, a VGA judge) the actual show itself left ... well, it left a lot to be desired. While we're not sure how much better this year's show will be, Spike is replacing longtime host Samuel L. Jackson with someone who actually knows how to hold a game controller. Shocking! And Mr. Black is bringing a date to the show: "the world premiere of Brütal Legend gameplay." You know what that means? The Spike VGAs just became must-see TV for nerds everywhere, who will undoubtedly cringe at the desperate gestures to the mainstream audience while celebrating the more obscure "world premieres" littered throughout the show. Included with the price of admission (free) is: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War III gameplay, Fight Night Round 4, Mafia II, Terminator Salvation, Watchmen: The End is Nigh, "a special announcement regarding Gears of War 2" (imulsion maps?) and more. Set those TiVos for December 14 at 9:00 PM ET – just be ready with that skip button.

  • Tenacious D discovered Northrend first

For what ever reason I found myself looking at some Tenacious D stuff the other day, and came across the Wonderboy video (you'll have to visit YouTube as we can't embed the video due to copyright restrictions). Wonderboy is a great little song, completely safe for work and young bucks (however pretty much everything else that comes out of Jack Black's mouth is not).In the video they are going on "The Quest" for truth. And where does this quest take them? None other then high above the mucky muck. This mountain region has a surprising look and feel to it. That's right. The D discovered Northrend, before any of us.But wait, there's more. There's even powers that The D posses which are featured in Northrend. What powers are those, you ask?

At the MTV Movie Awards a few weeks back, Jack Black came wearing a huge gash across his neck. But you'll want to direct your attention below the wound -- no, not to the pantaloons -- to Black's slightly more subtle statement: a "Brütal Legend" tee. We're not sure how many casual viewers have attempted to google the term, only to be stifled by the key command for an umlaut, but those of us attuned to Black's sense of style certainly appreciate the nod to Tim Schafer's seemingly in limbo project, for which Black lends his vocals. When questioned about his getup, Black responded, "I just wanted to represent. I do this video game Brütal Legend. It's coming someday."MTV Multiplayer followed up with Sierra on Black's impromptu plug, reporting that the publisher was, obviously, grateful for the nationally televised marketing. Still, Sierra declined to elaborate on Black's vague promise, saying only, "we are excited to reveal more details regarding our plans for Brütal Legend very soon."

  • Jack Black won't be a voice actor for Warhammer Online

Though it may pain you to read this, Jack Black will not be voicing the role of Warlord Tchar'zanek. Though the melodious voice beloved by Tenacious D fans around the world would make a great dark lord, the leader of the Chaos Faction in Warhammer Online will have to find some other inspiration. Similarly Andy Serkis won't be voicing Gazbag and Grumlock (the Orc leaders), Patrick Stewart won't be voicing Karl Franz (leader of the Empire faction), and Malekith, leader of the Dark Elves, won't be voiced by Hugo Weaving. All of these well-known actors, and more, were rumored to be playing big roles in EA Mythic's in-development title. Discussion of these actors has been swirling through WAR forums for a few weeks, and was repeated on a popular Warhammer-related podcast. Certainly, with EA backing the game's production, it doesn't seem out of the question that such A-list celebrities could be corralled for contributions. Most of them have already done voice work in games before, making it all the more likely. For confirmation Massively contacted a press representative that works with the company. We recieved this humorous response in return: "We looked into this voiceover talent list, and it is not true. Sorry to disappoint! WAR will definitely have high-quality voiceovers, but no Jack Black."More's the pity, but best to keep everything clear just the same. Thanks to Eddiemae Jukes for setting the record straight. Just to complete the set, other rumored contributors included Michael Ironside as the Dwarven leader Thorgrim, and Ian McKellan as the Phoenix King (the High Elven leader). It's nice to dream, huh?

  • Warner to release a Blu-ray title before it's available on DVD

Warner leads the home media market, and like any leader it is always looking for the next big movie to improve it's sales. It makes sense to us that a good way to promote Blu-ray -- and thus the future of the home media market -- is to make new releases available in HD before their SD counterparts, but we wonder what the rest of the SD world will think of this. It is hard to say if Warner's decision to release the Jack Black movie Be Kind Rewind on Blu-ray on June 10th -- a full week before it's available on DVD -- is one of these tests, but we certainly can't wait to see the results.**UPDATE** New Line has clarified and the DVD will be released the same day.

One of the most recognized comedians in the world took the Wii for a test drive and the results are hilarious. Jack Black, best known for his band Tenacious D and several outlandish movie appearances, approached the Wii with a twinkle in his eye. He was ready to sweat with Wii Sports. He did let it slip that his newest film, The Pick of Destiny, is better than the Wii, but we'll let that one slide for now Jack. [Thanks JC!]

Majesco has announced it will release a Nacho Libre wrestling title for the Nintendo DS. The title will be developed by Budcat Creations, who did a pretty good PS2 port of Psychonauts (albeit the load times are abysmal). Majesco is promising ten playable characters, four-player gaming (not through Nintendo WiFi), and touch-screen minigames.Nacho Libre came out in theatres today to a mixed (yet mostly negative) critical response. From the trailers, I'd conjecture that the only people who will enjoy this movie also think it is incredibly funny to excessively quote Napoleon Dynamite ad infinitum. In January of 2006, Majesco announced that it would be focusing only on handheld games.

Truly, on this day we are blessed. Jack Black's cook-turned-wrestler Nacho Libre will be coming to the Nintendo DS, courtesy of Majesco Entertainment. Now, yes, we all know the general quality of movie-to-game adaptations. But look at that man in the picture. Look at him. Is this game not a gift? According to the press release, the title will play as a fairly standard wrestling game, with a few touch screen bonuses thrown in for good measure. But it has Nacho. Surely, it shall be wonderful. The movie itself opens on June 16th, and will surely leave you with a wanton desire to perform a full nelson while wearing spandex and a cape. If you don't own a cape, however, you can always grab your DS.

Fresh from slaying Kong (beauty didn't kill the beast, Jack, you did), Jack Black is busy filming his next movie, Nacho Libre. If you can't wait until the movie opens on June 2nd to see what Jack is up to, you may want to check out his video podcast, Jack Black's Nacho Libre Confessional [iTunes link]. Starting on March 15th, Jack will upload two weekly, iTMS-exclusive video podcasts (every Tuesday and Thursday) that are all about the making of the film. The first one is mildly amusing. If you're a Jack Black fan, check them out.
