Boston Dynamics -- which previously made a robot called the BigDog -- has been enlisted by Sandia National Laboratories (a US government-funded lab) and DARPA to make a new, hopping robot. Called the Precision Urban Hopper, the robot's goal will be to be capable of jumping over large obstacles in city combat situations. It will boast one extremely tough leg to assist it, in addition to its four wheels. The Hopper is supposedly going to be able to jump 25 feet in the air once completed. So far, only a very small prototype (pictured above) is finished, but Boston Dynamics is due to present its next model sometime during 2010.

Although any week would look weak compared to last's, we can't help but feel let down. Sure, there are a few pretty hot day-and-date titles like Jumper, The Bucket List and The Other Boleyn Girl; but of the three, only one has much Blu appeal and it has an unbelievably low IMDB score of 5.9. But we still can't help but want to check it out based on the rave reviews that the audio and video got -- what's not to love about DTS-HD MA 48kHz/24bit? The best news for Blu this week though, is that unlike most other weeks, DVD doesn't have any exclusives to talk about. There are a few comedies that should be worth a look though, like Be Kind Rewind and Witless Protection, as well as a few catalog westerns like Broken Trail and The Professionals. This is pretty much what June has to offer though, as there are only 10 titles left on the schedule, and only two that we think people will get excited about. Blu-ray 619*Blu-ray Be Kind Rewind (New Line) Broken Trail (2006) (Sony) The Bucket List (Warner) Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire: Live at the Greek Theatre (Image) Girls Gone Wild: Hottest Moments Ever (Mantra) Heart: Alive in Seattle (Image) Jumper (Fox) The Missing (2003) (Sony) National Geographic: Sea Monsters (National Geographic) Natural Born Killers (Warner) The Other Boleyn Girl (Sony) The Professionals (Sony) The Signal (2007) (Magnolia) Witless Protection (Lionsgate) * Blu-ray total does reflect 32 Paramount titles that were previously officially unavailable.

  • Brash to make game based on Jumper

Way back in the summer we told you about Brash Entertainment, a studio that was going to focus on game adaptations of movies. They sounded pretty edgy at the the time, especially considering they were adapting box-office smash/murder porn Saw at the time. But first, the publisher has to get some more time-sensitive games out of the way like Alvin and The Chipmunks and, we've learned today, Jumper. Collision Studios (300: March to Glory) is developing Playstation 2 and Wii versions of the film coming this February, while RedTribe (Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal) handles the Xbox 360. Wait, two different studios? That's got to be better than one, right? We're guessing that the question on your mind isn't "How true will they stay to the film?" but rather "What the hell is Jumper?" We've watched the trailer, and as far as we can tell, it's a movie about Hayden Christensen teleporting around while Samuel L. Jackson tries to keep Hayden Christensen from teleporting around. So ... yeah, expect a game somewhere between Crash Bandicoot and awful.
