  • HP's 30-inch LP3065 LCD monitor gets reviewed

Although the average consumer isn't likely to be in dire need of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels on their monitor, the competition is still very alive in the expansive LCD market, and while Dell, Quixun, Samsung, and Apple all have highly-regarded units of their own, it's about time HP's LP3065 hit the test bench itself. Touted as "late, but great," HP's rendition of the 30-inch monitor managed to top the 3007WFP in "brightness, contrast ratio, and color uniformity tests," though it was noted that results were still below expectations. ExtremeTech found the screen "easy on the eyes" and very tweakable using NVIDIA's control panel via their GeForce 8800 GTX; furthermore, Photoshop editing, DVD viewing, and handling basic, mundane office tasks all provided "results that were nothing short of spectacular." Overall, the LP3065 provided a "wider color gamut," a trio of HDCP-compliant dual-link DVI ports, and "gorgeous image quality," which may or may not be worth the extra $400 over Dell's basic 30-incher to you -- and while it received an "8 out of 10" rating as well as a coveted "Approved" label, you're still better off throwing down this type of coinage on twin 24-inchers if screen real estate is your number one priority.

  • HP outs price, ship date for its 30-inch LCD monstrosity

The competition is really heating up in the 30-inch display space. Dell keeps slashing its own 3007WFP prices to ridiculous extremes (we just spotted it for $1,274 on Dell's own site), Apple finally got its 30-incher under two grand in August, and now HP is busting out its own aggressively priced option for full pixel assault. We've already spent plenty of time geeking out over the LP3065's specs, so the real news here is that HP is offering the display for $1,699, and it's already been spotted on PC Mall for $1,629, so there seems to be some flex to that pricetag. HP is estimating a ship date of November 11th, and while there might not be much to differentiate HP's offering from the pack -- though a trio of dual-link DVI-D ports does sound intriguing -- it's good to see someone else in the US break the $2,000 barrier.[Thanks, Jaxim]

Yesterday we told you about the HP LP3065, but as we noted at the time, details were sparse. Today, HP got its act together and finally put up some more information about this mammoth of a monitor. Here's what we've found out: 1000:1 contrast ratio, 2560 x 1600 pixels, 92 percent color gamut, 178 x 178 degree viewing angles, three dual-link DVI-D inputs and two dual-link DVI cables -- and has a respectable brightness of 300 nits. HP also tells us that the LP3065 will be available in November and "is priced not to exceed $1999", or translated from PR-speak, will be $2000 or less. But better than all of those deets are HP's PR annotations left on its monitor fact sheet (linked below). There are a couple gems like: "This monitor features an amazingly sharp 2560 x 1600 high resolution panel, extra-wide 178 x 178 degree (usually I just say 178 degree viewing angles) . . ." and ". . . the widest available in an HP monitor (this will the widest in the market for about 4-6 months. Can we get away with saying widest available on the market?)." Uh, HP, you actually can't. Dell and Apple have already come out with 30-inch monitors -- and they did it way before you. But thanks for playing! [Warning: PDF link!]

  • HP gets into the 30-incher ring with Dell, Apple

HP announced today the debut of its first 30-inch diagonal monitor, the LP3065, making us feel like our favorite 30-inch Dell monitors were yesterday's news. The web is sparse on details at this point, but you can bet it'll require a DVI-D dual link graphics card and will support 2560 x 1600 pixels. VARBusiness also pipes in, fresh from an HP event today in New York that the monitor will sport an 8-ms response time. PC World also adds in a blog post today the monitor will go for an estimated $2000 on November 1 that unlike HP's rivals Dell and Apple, HP is going goth on this one, sans metallic accents. Plus as a cherry on top, the monitor's LED will turn off after 15 seconds, allowing you to bask yourself in incandescent glory and not be asthetically distracted by soft lime green ugliness. (Sorry for the pic of the LP2065 -- we couldn't get a pic of the LP3065 in time.)[Via PC World]
