Update: Looks like the issue is resolved as the DLC is now priced correctly. Also of note: 'Crash Course' is also now available on the PC!Rather than coasting onto Xbox Live Marketplace with ease, we regret to inform you that the new Left 4 Dead DLC 'Crash Course' has made an emergency landing. The DLC is currently listed for a more expensive 800 and not the promised 560, Major Nelson informs. If you're anxious to get your hands on the new content, just sit tight and try to relax. We wouldn't want you to lose your mind and do something you'd regret now, would we?

click for full-sized poster art And yes, that's Left 4 Dead ONE, last year's popular zombocalypse simulator, and not this year's "controversial" sequel. True to its word, Valve has announced details of an upcoming DLC campaign for the game, sending conspiratorial crybabies ("Left 4 Dead 2 is a cash-in and they'll never support Left 4 Dead 1") back to the drawing board. Though Left 4 Dead 2 is purported to last "much longer" as a platform, Valve clearly isn't ready to abandon the original.Targeted for this September, "Crash Course" is an entirely new campaign that "bridges the gap" between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign (think: rooftop helicopter evacuation) and the beginning of "Death Toll" (think: turnpike riddled with abandoned cars). The new campaign includes "new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale," and it spreads the mayhem across a co-op campaign, survival maps, and a "streamlined version" of the Versus mode experience lasting 30 minutes. All this for the asking price of ... $0? Oh, but that's on PC only, friend. If you've waged war on the reanimated dead via your Xbox 360, you'll be paying 560 ($7 Earth bucks) for the privilege of adding "Crash Course" to your repertoire. Think about it this way, 360 gamers: if the original $60 game included just four maps, $7 for this set is a value, right? Hey, where are you going?

Update: Left 4 Dead's free "Survival Pack" DLC is now available on Steam for PC zombie hunters. This is just a friendly reminder that human brains are delicious and, if the idea of them being devoured during the inevitable zombie apocalypse doesn't sound appealing, you should fight the future by downloading Left 4 Dead's free "Survival Pack" now. Valve is looking to expand its multiplayer-focused Left 4 Dead in 2009, sending word that survivors should look forward to a variety of bonuses throughout the year. First up is the L4D Survival Pack, which is set for a spring release and promises to add a new game mode, "Survival," along with two more full campaigns for Versus mode. If you've been holding off on purchasing the game (there's no good excuse, by the way), you'll be pleased to note the upcoming release of a "Critics' Choice" version of the game, which includes the aforementioned DLC. The next tidbit is only for the PC gamers: Valve says it's unleashing the Source SDK, for free, this spring. It will allow PC gamers to customize and create their own campaigns and ... did we mention it's free? We imagine those folks making that Resident Evil 3 campaign are especially excited about this.Sadly, there isn't any info as to how much the L4D Survival Pack will cost, but we'll pass along word as soon as we can.
