'Pokémon Go' adds Meltan, the first monster to debut in the spinoff game

If you gotta catch 'em all, you're going to have to get off your couch. In a new video released on the official Pokémon YouTube channel, it revealed that the popular mobile game Pokémon Go will get its first exclusive monster with Meltan. And for those wanting to fill their Pokémon Bank with every single critter, there will be a timed period where Meltan can be transferred from the mobile game to the upcoming Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go Eevee! on Nintendo Switch via a special item. Once it's in the game, it can likely be transferred to your Pokémon Bank, which can then be transferred to the next mainline series Pokémon game that's set to release in late 2019. The Pokémon Company has done limited releases of Pokémon in the past, usually through events at GameStop. But this is the first time a new creature will be introduced to players through Pokémon Go. Players noticed last month that caught Ditto were transforming into Meltan. It's unclear how viable Meltan will be for competitive play. But considering Meltan is a mythical Pokémon, it's likely that its base stat total will be 600, which is above average. It's also possible that players will need to catch multiple Meltan to find the right one. And, if finding a Meltan in Pokémon Go proves to be a challenge, it's going to drive competitive players wild. Meltan itself is a steel-type Pokémon and is classified as hex nut, a new species. Its body is made of liquid metal and its shape is fluid. Meltan generates electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go Eevee! are set to arrive on November 16th on Nintendo Switch.

Gundam is heading to the big screen -- and, yes, we're talking about a live action adaptation, not a movie-length anime movie you can see in theaters. Legendary Entertainment and Gundam's creator, Japanese animation studio Sunrise, have announced that they're teaming up to create a film version of the classic robot saga at the Los Angeles Anime Expo. The franchise was established in 1979 with the animated series Mobile Suit Gundam, which helped popularize the "mecha" genre. It grew over the years to encompass several anime series, manga and video games, remaining relevant and popular even to this day.

According to Deadline, Legendary has acquired the movie rights to the beautifully drawn comic book series by Nate Simpson and Image Comics. It has also tapped Eric Pearson, known for co-writing Thor: Ragnarok and the Agent Carter TV series, to write the script.

'Pokémon Go Fest' issues refunds after tech problems ruin event

After an up and down first year of existence, the Pokémon Go Fest was supposed to be a triumphant event where players could work together in news ways and earn unique awards. The event unfortunately suffered as cell networks and the game's servers couldn't keep up with the strain, preventing many attendees who had traveled from around the world from participating. Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke was actually booed when he appeared at the event, and later in the day the company announced it would refund attendees for their ticket costs, add $100 in PokéCoins to their accounts and give them the Legendary Pokémon Lugia. The issues, and Niantic's inability to deal with them before they derailed the event, recalled many of the problems Pokémon Go has dealt with since its launch. Incredibly popular right out of the gate, the game suffered with significant instability for months, and still occasionally has problems preventing players for logging in now. It's the first augmented reality game with participation and appeal on a massive scale, but putting its most hardcore players through a day like yesterday is just another strike against it, even as the money continues to roll in.

'Pokémon Go' is getting Legendary monsters for its birthday

Niantic is going all out for Pokémon Go's first anniversary. In addition to holding the Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago and tie-in events all over the globe, it's also finally introducing Legendaries into the mobile game. You'll be able to find Legendary eggs at gyms, but since the Pokémon type is incredibly rare and powerful, you likely won't find one at every turn. Niantic is also using Legendaries as raid bosses, and if you and your team defeat one, you'll get the chance to catch one of your own. You can't use them to defend gyms, but hey, you'll need to catch them if you want to catch 'em all.

Duncan Jones' Warcraft movie doesn't hit theaters for another year, but that isn't stopping Legendary Pictures from giving you a first-hand look at the cinematic version of Azeroth. The studio has released a 360-degree YouTube video (also available in VR, if you use Android and iOS apps) that has you flying over the human capital Stormwind on the back of a gryphon. While this isn't as juicy as a full-fledged trailer, it'll give you a sense of the movie's grand scale: there are giant towers, narrow streets and majestic mountains. Something tells us that Stormwind won't look quite so pristine once Jones is finished with it, so give this clip a look if you want to see the fantasy city at its best.

  • Patch 6.1 PTR: A Legendary follower for your garrison

The 6.1 PTR isn't even live yet, but datamining continues apace, and the folks at Wowhead have certainly dug up a doozy for us. Apparently as part of the legendary questline, we'll be getting the first ever legendary follower, namely Garona Halforcen, the infamous Shadow Council assassin. If you're curious about what a legendary follower gets, it's impressive. It's very interesting to see the quest open up in this way, really . It broadens the idea of the kinds of rewards you can get from a legendary chain, and it also makes me hope that we might see other such followers. Perhaps my hope that Maraad can make a comeback isn't entirely unwarranted.

  • Rygarius clarifies Draenor's Secret Power hotfix

One of the recent hotfixes was to the Draenor's Secret Power quest. Before the hotfix, players were able to complete the three heroic dungeons and turn in the quest items for the next stage in the legendary quest chain, getting an ilevel 680 ring in the process, because they were not required to complete the 4986 Apexis Crystals requirement first. Rygarius - Sooo you're letting them keep the rings? Here to provide additional clarification on the hotfix note that went out yesterday, November 17. Quests Draenor's Secret Power: Completion of this quest is now required before being able to move onto the next step of the Legendary quest chain. For characters that skipped this quest, completion of this quest has also been made into a requirement before being eligible for the next upgrade. This means players that skipped the quest will still have to complete Draenor's Secret Power before being eligible for the next upgrade. That last part wasn't included until now cause I was tunnel visioning on hotfixes and glossed over the supplemental email for the change. Hope this clears any confusion up. source If you have the ring, you'll be keeping it, but people who haven't yet upgraded will have to wait until they have the apexis crystals. Since raids won't be open until December, this is (to my eyes, anyway) a minor advantage for a few players. Going any further in the quest still costs that 4986 Apexis Crystals.

  • Rob Riggle cast as Frank West in Dead Rising: Watchtower

Frank West, Capcom's favorite zombie-killing photojournalist, will be portrayed by former Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle in Legendary's live-action Dead Rising: Watchtower film. "But he's a comedian," we hear you shout. "What does he know about jamming a Servbot helmet on the undead?" Granted, Riggle's not the most obvious choice, but he does have the right lantern-jawed look for the character and Riggle's one of the few candidates who can say that he, like his video game counterpart, has actually covered wars. As for what he'll be doing in Dead Rising: Watchtower, that remains unknown. Legendary's vague synopsis claims the film focuses on the survivors of a zombie outbreak who begin to suspect government involvement. That should be familiar ground for anyone who's played a Dead Rising entry, but does nothing to differentiate the film from its source material. So far there's no release date for Dead Rising: Watchtower, but it will debut exclusively on the Crackle digital video network. [Image: Capcom]

  • SoftBank puts $250 million toward joint movie venture with Legendary

Just days after reports circulated that SoftBank was looking to nab DreamWorks so it could tap into the movie biz, the company is investing elsewhere. Today, the Japanese outfit announced that it's forming a "strategic partnership" with another film studio: Legendary Entertainment. SoftBank is putting up $250 million to back the endeavor, aiming to push the movie maker's content over the web and on mobile devices -- focusing on the China and India markets in particular. If you're in need of a refresher, Legendary is the muscle behind films like Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises, and Inception. Variety reports that SoftBank's talks with DreamWorks stalled during the course of discussing a rumored $3.4 billion acquisition deal.

  • Netflix's latest series is a romantic comedy co-written by Judd Apatow

Now that Netflix has a solid (if imperfect) track record with original shows, it appears that the big-name talent is lining up for its chance at creating an internet-only hit. Case in point: the streaming service has reached a deal with Legendary Television to release Love, an "excruciatingly honest" romantic comedy penned by 40 Year-Old Virgin producer Judd Apatow, Inglourious Basterds' Paul Rust and Girls' Lesley Arfin. You won't see the end result until 2016, but Netflix is already confident that you'll like it. The company has already committed to two seasons (22 episodes total) sight unseen -- if you're a fan of Apatow's frequently blunt approach to on-screen relationships, you're going to get your fill. • Guild Wars 2 signals end of armor repair costs

The latest developments in Guild Wars 2's upcoming April feature pack will improve the quality of life around Tyria, as the game will be ending armor repair and sharing gear and WvW XP across accounts. The team said that it feels as though the loss of time is enough of a death penalty that it will be removing the costs for armor repair when the patch lands. Because this will take out a goldsink, the team is also reducing the coin dropped by champion loot bags. Legendary gear, ascended items, and World vs. World XP will become account-bound rather than character-bound come April as well. This means that players can character hop and retain their progression and expensive items instead of getting them individually.

  • Why Warlords of Draenor needs a legendary chain

Mists of Pandaria was unique in a variety of different ways, but none quite so unique as its approach to legendary items. While prior expansions offered legendaries in the form of random drops from bosses or craftable items that required -- you guessed it -- random drops from bosses, Mists paved the way for a new type of legendary. It was a legendary that anyone could get, provided they put in the time and effort required to obtain it. Coming from a long line of raiding going all the way back to vanilla, I have to say that Mists' approach was the best I've ever seen. No more arguing over which class deserved the legendary more, no more officer headaches as they tried to decide who got the legendary first. No more accusations of favoritism, no more guild explosions. Just you, the character you play, and a decision to make: do you go for the legendary chain, or do you ignore it? You choose. We need this in Warlords.

  • Voice of Mr. Krabs joins Warcraft movie cast

Arrr, Squidward! Clancy Brown, the voice of Mr. Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants (among other things, but let's just put our best foot forward, shall we) has joined the cast of the upcoming Warcraft film. He will be joined by Daniel Wu, a veteran Hong Kong actor. Legendary Pictures announced the news via Twitter on December 18. We already know that the film will be something of an origin story, and is based in the timeline of the First and Second Wars. Who the actors will be playing remains a mystery, but this isn't Brown's first War-rodeo: he voiced the orc Thrall in the canceled Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans game, and also played Scourgelord Tyrranus in the World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. Take those to mean what you will.
