The InLink kiosks installed throughout the UK were meant to replace payphones and provide free calls, ultra-fast WiFi and phone charging. But it wasn't long before they became a hotbed for drug dealing. Rather than do away with the free phone service, British telecom company BT and InLinkUK developed an algorithm to automatically block and disable "antisocial" calls.

It's a top-down 2D roguelike that infuses the universe of The Legend of Zelda into the rhythmic world of beloved 2015 indie game Crypt of the NecroDancer.

Nintendo has a history of dressing up its handheld systems in festive fashions, and the 2DS XL is no different. This time out, the clamshell console is getting a special edition that resembles Link's Hylian Shield from The Legend of Zelda franchise. From the looks of it, the Gamestop-exclusive hardware's styling betrays the 2Ds' flat motif.

Playboy sues Boing Boing over a web link

Playboy has filed a lawsuit against Boing Boing, accusing the offbeat news blog of copyright infringement for linking to an Imgur gallery and a YouTube video that showed every Playmate centerfold. Boing Boing wasn't involved in the creation of the gallery and the video at all -- it simply reported upon the archive's existence. In its post announcing that it has filed a motion to dismiss, the publication called the case "baseless" and "bizarre." Linking is common practice among blogs and major media outlets alike, after all, and it's one of the most basic methods people use to exchange information online.

When you're looking for a smart home speaker, you might think you're stuck with those made by Amazon, Apple or Google in order to use the specific intelligent assistants from the respective companies. Now, however, you can pick up a speaker that works with Alexa or Google Assistant, in addition to the one that already supports Microsoft's Cortana. The Samsung-owned Harman International just announced three new JBL Link speakers at IFA, each a voice activated speaker with Google Assistant built in. The company also revealed the Harman Kardon Allure, an Alexa-enabled smart speaker with 360-degree sound.

Nintendo has partnered with Western Digital on a line of officially official SanDisk microSDXC cards for its Switch console. What makes them so different? Well, Mario and Link are on the packaging and the 64-and-128 gigabyte cards have Nintendo branding printed on them. Nope, no 400GB cards featuring Wario just yet. And that's the extent of it. The cards will be available starting next month at "select retail outlets." If anything, this will make it easier for parents and family members to grab the right storage card when buying gifts come the holiday season.

Now the Android Gmail app keeps an eye out for phishing links

In a particularly timely upgrade, Google is rolling out new protection against phishing links on its Gmail app for Android. According to the notes, when a user clicks on a suspicious link, they'll get a warning like the one shown above revealing that this could lead to a forged website (similar warnings came to web Gmail last year). Interestingly, this wouldn't have done much to mitigate the fake Google Docs invite that went around earlier since that linked to Google's own website. Still, we have more than enough evidence of what havoc can come about as a result of one fake email -- it's good to see Google doing more to protect users.

Nintendo's latest Zelda game is such a smash hit that copies of the Switch version outsold the console itself. Now, for players who've already traversed every corner of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's open world, the company has revealed details of its first planned DLC expansion. Due sometime this summer, DLC will add the promised 'Hard Mode' where enemies are powered up by one level, have higher maximum levels and they slowly regain health -- oh, and enemies and chests can be found in the sky.

Amidst the CES madness, a company called Fasetto has unveiled a pretty interesting mobile storage product. The Link, first seen in prototype form at CES last year, gives you up to 2TB of storage via an app and WiFi connection to your smartphone, camera or other device. It can also stream video, images and audio, making it essentially a tiny NAS that can be used at home or on the road.

You know the problem -- you want to go back to something you saw in a mobile app, but you either forgot to save your place or couldn't save it at all. What to do? If Microsoft Research has its way, you'll never be left scrambling again. Its uLink experiment creates links to mobile app pages on the fly, helping you find that hotel listing without having to re-do all the steps you took to see it. It's a bit like Google's deep app linking without the need to go online.

Here's a little something to brighten up your day -- open up Google Maps in the browser and you'll notice that the yellow Pegman now looks like Link. The fabled Hero of Time is there to celebrate the The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, which launches today on the Wii U in Europe and North America. He'll be sticking around for a good five days, which makes sense given the game doesn't come out in Japan until March 10th. In the meantime, enjoy dragging his little tunic and sword around your hometown. Who knows, maybe there's a dungeon or two to be found?
