Your wallet is about to get a bit lighter. Or, if you lack self-control, a lot lighter. That's because over the next 13 days games on Steam will be marked down dramatically during this year's summer sale. The first crop includes up to half off the Final Fantasy franchise and 70 percent off underwater indie charmer Abzu. Hyper Light Drifter has been discounted by half as well, and if you wanted to explore Mafia III's version of the Luisiana bayou, now it'll only cost you around $15.

Hopefully even a brief Netflix outage didn't stop your Luke Cage binge or get in the way of catching the HBO premiere of Westworld, but this week the focus is on Blu-ray. A slew of Ultra HD Blu-ray releases are here including X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: First Class and The Great Gatsby. I'm actually most excited about seeing Pacific Rim on UHD Blu-ray, so I can compare it to the Dolby Vision HDR stream available from Vudu (and of course, bask in the glory of robots punching giant monsters). For Prince fans, Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge and Under the Cherry Moon are all being released on Blu-ray this week, while filmmaker Ava Duvernay takes a look at how our prison system has developed with her Netflix documentary The 13th. On TV, Scorpion is back, in case you thought Mr. Robot's hacking scenes were just too accurate, while CW has premieres of The Flash and Arrow as well as its new time travel-ish show Frequency. Finally, on HBO it's time for the premiere episode of a new series from YouTube star Issa Rae (Awkward Black Girl) called Insecure, but HBO subscribers can actually watch it early here. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

  • The historical research behind the biracial antihero in 'Mafia III'

The 1960s were a period of dramatic upheaval in the United States. By 1968, the Vietnam War was raging abroad while civil-rights activists at home were mourning the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated in April. The Civil Rights Act, Fair Housing Act and Brown v. Board of Education -- landmark rulings in favor of racial equality in the United States -- were all in effect, though racism still reared its ugly head across the nation, particularly in the South. The FBI finally admitted in the 1950s that organized crime existed on a large scale, and by 1968, the sun was setting on the Italian mob's golden age.

A new Mafia III trailer dropped today, teasing more of the game's mobster action from the late 1960s. It all takes place in the fictional city of New Bordeaux, a locale loosely inspired by New Orleans, as Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay returns from war. When his surrogate family, the black mob, are attacked by the Italian mafia, Clay seeks all-out revenge. There are some brutal scenes, however the new trailer is also incredibly stylish in its depiction of the time and place. Much of that can be attributed to Son of a Preacher Man, which plays in the background throughout.

The first trailer for Mafia III takes us down to the American bayou in 1968, tied up and bloodied in the backseat of a car while Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay menacingly espouses the true meaning of "family." Clay is Mafia III's main character and he represents a shift away from the snappily dressed, mainly white mobsters of previous Mafia games. Clay is an orphan who finds his family in the black mob of New Orleans, and when the Italian mob slaughters his new kin, Clay vows revenge and turns the city's organized-crime power structure on its head. Mafia III is due to hit Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2016.
