First we saw Nintendo Magic on Nintendo's upcoming releases list during E3, and figured that it was a localized version of the magic-training game Magic Taizen. Then, last week, Nintendo registered the trademark in Japan at the same time as a bunch of Wii stuff, leading us to think that maybe it's a Wii thing. Now, as discovered by a GoNintendo reader, the title Nintendo Magic is nowhere to be found in the list of games on Nintendo's press site, for DS or Wii. However, a new game called Master of Illusion is set for release on November 26 for DS. Maybe this is the thing that we thought Nintendo Magic was? Or maybe this is the thing that we didn't know Nintendo Magic was going to be?It all feels like misdirection. Maybe Nintendo's about to reveal which card we were thinking of.

Nintendo of Japan seems to have registered a few new trademarks, which makes for some interesting speculation for fans everywhere. Some are just plain strange (like Soma Bringer), while others seem pretty easy to figure out. Could the "Wii Body Controller" be the official name for the Wii Fit balance board? Mii Contest Channel is about as clear as Pikmin ... except we really want the latter and think the former is interesting, but not froth-worthy.Here's the full list: Mii Contest Channel Nintendo Magic Wii Body Controller Mii Audition Wii Handle Pikmin (trademark protection renewed) Soma Bringer We can only assume that Nintendo Magic is the game of the same title that was announced for English-speaking gamers at E3, though that game was known as Magic Taizen in Japan. Does Nintendo make it a practice to trademark all title variations in all regions?[Via NeoGAF]

... but all good things must come to an end, eh? It's always nice to wallow in the explosion of news that surrounds a trade show, and even the diminished E3 was no exception. Sure, for Nintendo fans, at least on the DS side, things started out a little slowly, but once the media hit, we no longer had anything to be disappointed about! So what was tops for DS owners? Here's the best -- according to us, at least.Top E3 trailers: Contra 4 -- After all our Contragasms, you knew we were going to say this! Front Mission DS -- What can we say ... we're big fans of ass-kickery. Brain Age 2 -- We know you'll probably disagree with us here, but we can't help it. We a) dig a good, brainy challenge and b) think the selection of games looks even better than before. Less-discussed games we desperately want right now: Professor Layton and all his mysterious locales -- Okay, we wanted this before. But it was mentioned in passing around E3, and now we're more rabid for it than ever! Nintendo Magic -- Another game we weren't sure would head our way, but that just sounds like fun. Advance Wars 2 -- The first is one of the best the DS has to offer, though it seems to rarely get a mention. Worst trailer that should have been awesome:Insecticide, hands down. Please pass us some Dramamine on your way out.Biggest disappointment:Probably the missing wi-fi for Mario Party DS. C'mon, Nintendo, slip it in there! We promise not to complain about friend codes for at least a week.

  • E307: Nintendo making magic for non-Japanese gamers

In the midst of everything else -- boy, we didn't think we'd be saying that after the keynote, at least in regard to the DS! -- bursting out of E3, we almost didn't notice this line on a release list of upcoming DS games: Nintendo Magic. Once we did, however, a collective gasp shuddered forth from the DSF staff as we realized that this rather vague name (which, for all we knew, could have been the release of the money-printer at last) was most likely Magic Taizen, the magic trainer that we thought might never make it outside Japan. It looks like we're not the only ones who've reached that conclusion. We can only hope we'll be learning some one-handed cuts and all about pulling rabbits from our clothing this November. DS games are a lot cheaper than buying magic books!
