Star Wars Galaxies just launched its 19.12 Entertainer update, but that doesn't mean the dev team at Sony Online Entertainment is taking it easy. Tony "Teesquared" Tyson has posted a new producer's letter to the official SWG forums that offers a hint of what's to come over the next few patches. The main thrust is the ongoing development of Galactic Civil War 2, and Tyson says the update will be released in three parts. Part one will focus on the space game, part two will involve player cities, and part three will be "a balance pass on the different GCW systems including planetary control." The space update looks to be particularly juicy, with a new player ship and space-based bounty hunting on the way. The new hardware is a Scurrg H-6 prototype bomber, an example of which is the heavily modified Havoc flown by the Feeorin pirate Nym in Star Wars lore. The Scurrg will be available to freelance pilots, and Tyson says the team is also planning to add new craft for Imperial and Rebel pilots in a future patch.

Today marked the announcement of a major new content update for an MMORPG set in a galaxy far, far away. No, not that one. Sony Online Entertainment brings us word of the new Game Update 16: Stronghold of the Lok Revenants content patch for Star Wars Galaxies. The title is certainly a mouthful, and the amount of content looks to be equally chunky. The update features a return to the Feeorin pirate Nym's stronghold on the backwater barren known as Lok. One of the original themepark quest lines for the long-running MMO, Nym's has been revamped to feature additional side quests and new rewards, including the Jinkins J-1 Rifle, mounted Slugthrower decorations and Nym's logo rug. The update also features a new addition to the oft-neglected space-based portions of the game in the form of a piracy system that allows players to pull trade convoys out of hyperspace and pillage them for engines, shields, and all manner of shiny valuables. Finally, players can look forward to a new Email Collections reward - a display model of Nym's 'Havoc' starfighter. Check out the press release for the full details on Game Update 16.

  • Star Wars Galaxies livens up a theme park

Usually, references to theme parks when it comes to MMOs are meant as derogatory terms. Not so much the case when playing Star Wars Galaxies, where "theme parks" are areas with connected and in-depth quest lines designed to invest the player in the region's storyline. The most recent producer's letter for the game mentioned that Nym's theme park was due for an overhaul and revision, and more information has helpfully been provided by the development team. The overhaul is targeting both new and veteran players, with the additional quests available for those who've never done them and quests available for those who already experienced the original line. The original plan was to outright scrap the old content, but when the team got their hands on the volume of content, they decided instead to do an overhaul. That means that the original Nym content remains in the new questline, which has been vastly expanded and ties more personally to Nym himself. There's also a number of new optional bosses and collections added in the chain, to challenge and interest players of all stripes. Star Wars Galaxies has put a great deal of energy into the overhaul, no doubt hoping that people will be anxious to take a ride in the park.
