  • Take a look at DC Universe Online's survival mode

DC Universe Online is gearing up to make survivors out of its players. That's kind of the whole focus of the game's upcoming survival mode, which sets players against waves of enemies in a test of endurance and persistence. So what does it look like in action? Well, you can check that out in a fan video just past the break showing off 11 minutes of action in the survival mode on the test server. The footage in question isn't the group's full run of survival mode, just a shot at a full group clearing through the first round and some of the second to give viewers a sense of how it works. There's also some mild cursing in the video, so you might not want to turn your speakers up to full if you're watching this at work. But if you haven't jumped on the test server and you want to see what it'll be like to stand against the hordes as long as you can, just jump on past the break.

  • Blacklight: Retribution patch adds new game mode, multiplayer maps

Developer Zombie Studios has issued a patch for the PlayStation 4 incarnation of Blacklight: Retribution that, along with the standard bug fixes and balance tweaks, delivers the new Onslaught game type as well as two decrepit multiplayer maps. Onslaught pits four Blacklight players against endless waves of the infected. Over time these waves of enemies grow progressively more difficult and complicated, forcing players to adapt or be overrun. According to Zombie Studios producer Kael Hammond, "[t]hose who find a way to succeed will be rewarded for their efforts," though it's not mentioned what exactly that reward might be. Today's patch also introduces two new multiplayer maps, "Metro" and "Decay." The former drops players into an abandoned subway station full of tight corridors and narrow passageways, while the latter takes place in a "slum fortress" featuring multiple floors and just as many angles of attack. Best of all, this content is being added to Blacklight: Retribution at no cost to players. More details on the gameplay tweaks introduced by this patch can be found at the PlayStation.blog. Call of Duty: Ghosts' Onslaught DLC will launch on February 27 for PC, PS4 and PS3. The DLC pack first arrived on Xbox One and Xbox 360 late last month. As the first map pack for the game, Onslaught brings four new maps in addition to a dual-purpose assault and sniper rifle known as "Maverick." The DLC also includes the first episode in Extinction, a four-part episodic story. Onslaught costs $15 as a stand-alone addition to Ghosts, and is also included in the game's $50 season pass. In addition to the launch of Call of Duty: Ghosts' latest Onslaught DLC, Infinity Ward brought forth a patch for the game. While the DLC is currently only available for Xbox One and Xbox 360 players, the title update applies to all platforms, hitting Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC today before coming to PS3 and PS4 owners tomorrow. The update adds eSports rules to the Clan vs. Clan playlist as well as a Hunted FFA and Gun Game playlists, the latter replacing Heavy Duty, which was just added in December. Infinity Ward's patch also adds a social feed to look at when you're not shooting people and some new menu music to listen to when you're not thinking about death and destruction. The Extinction game mode also earns five new Prestige ranks in the update. Platform-specific changes are a bit more sparse, as PS4 players can enjoy a more optimized remote play experience on Vita. Additionally, Xbox One owners should have fewer issues using the Kinect's voice recognition options, and players on both Xbox platforms should now have no functionality issues when a split-screen guest signs out. The full list of changes in the game's update can be found on Infinity Ward's forums.

Onslaught, the first map pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts, launches exclusively on Xbox 360 and Xbox One tomorrow. In preparation of the launch, Microsoft has put together a pair of in-depth walkthrough videos covering the four new maps and the Maverick, a dual-purpose assault rifle and sniper rifle. Call of Duty: Ghosts launched late last year on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Wii U and PC. Onslaught, along with subsequent DLC packs, will be available as timed exclusives on Xbox before they're released to other platforms. Onslaught includes four new multiplayer maps, the ability to turn into Michael Myers (of Halloween fame) in the "Fog" map, the aforementioned Maverick gun and the first supplemental episode in wave-based battle mode Extinction, which follows an alien outbreak at a remote research facility in the Alaskan wilderness.

This live-action ad for Call of Duty: Ghosts' Onslaught DLC features good-natured things like kidnapping, questionable priorities and family abandonment. The DLC includes four new maps and the ability to play as Michael Meyers of Halloween fame, and will launch January 28 on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Call of Duty has come a long way since its WW2 days. Michael Myers? Giant spider things? The Onslaught DLC for Ghosts is a bit different from the CoD of seven years back. Infinity Ward spilled the beans on the game's first DLC this week: Onslaught features four new maps, a new weapon in the form of the Maverick dual-purpose assault-rifle/sniper-rifle, and the first chapter of a four-part Extinction campaign. The screenshot with the creepy trailer and campfire comes from the Fog map, and if you complete a certain field order in Fog, you get to become Michael Myers. What that means is you don the mask and axe, and other players (with sense) run away from you, all while the Halloween music plays. Sounds neat to us. Onslaught hasn't got a long way to go before it hits Xbox One and Xbox 360 marketplaces on January 28 - no news yet on an ETA for other platforms.

  • Onslaught drop date confirmed for Call of Duty: Ghosts [update: trailer!]

Update: A new trailer confirms a lot of the details below, including how players can transform into Michael Myers on the new Fog map - other players will want to get a-running when that happens. It also details the first chapter, Nightfall, of the four-part Extinction campaign. As for the launch date, it's confirmed that it only applies to the Xbox One and Xbox 360. It's official: Call of Duty Ghosts gets its first DLC, Onslaught, on January 28, True to series form, the due date first cropped up on a GameStop display, but Infinity Ward provided official confirmation last night. There's no confirmation the date only applies to the game's Xbox versions, as the display noted, but that would be in line with Activision's timed exclusivity announcement at E3. As for what's in the DLC, that big spidery thing is coming to Extinction, for one. There's also an air of Extinction to Infinity Ward's newly teased video, with what sounds very much like the Halloween music in the background - maybe something to do with the Mike Myers custom game? We know there's a four-part Extinction campaign spread across the four announced DLC packs, and the GameStop display noted - surprise surprise - the first part is in Onslaught. If the display is accurate, you can also expect four maps called Fog, Bayview, Containment, and Ingition, as well as a Maverick AR & Sniper rifle thrown in for good measure. As for the price, there's no new intel on that for the time being.

Call of Duty: Ghosts first dose of DLC, Onslaught, will be available to Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners on January 28, according to a photo Twitter user SeriousSix2010 claims to have taken at their local GameStop. The display notes that Onslaught will reach Xbox users first, which would align with Activision's E3 announcement regarding timed-exclusive DLC for the platforms. The poster suggests that Onslaught will consist of new maps known as "Fog," "Bayview," "Containment" and "Ignition," as well as a "Maverick AR & Sniper Rifle" and the first episode of a four-part, episodic offering in the game's Extinciton mode. The poster does not display a price, but considering Ghosts' season pass is $49.99 and the prices of packs for recent Call of Duty games, $15 wouldn't be surprising. We reached out to local GameStops and were told there is currently nothing in the system concerning Onslaught's release date.

February 27th will mark one year since Blacklight: Retribution threw the doors of its beta wide open. Since then, it's ranked among Steam's 50 most-played shooters. For the game's first anniversary, publisher Perfect World Entertainment is hoping to keep the free-to-play shooter's success story going with an update called Onslaught, its biggest content push to date. I recently attended a preview event for Massively to sample Onslaught for myself. Let's start with the small and work our way up.

PlayStation 3 players can get their hands on Resident Evil 6's multiplayer DLC modes, which have been available on Xbox 360 since December. 'Predator' tasks one player with being the Ustanak, a giant bioweapon, while other players band together to take it down. 'Survivor' can be played in solo or with a team, with downed players resurrected as zombies to hunt human prey. Finally, 'Onslaught' pits two players against each other as they battle waves of enemies, each kill chain sending that many more enemies to the other player's area. Each mode is priced at $3.99 on PSN.On top of the DLC modes, Capcom has also dated a collection of all released Mercenaries maps, including maps that were previously exclusive to pre-order customers. This one-stop Mercenaries map pack bundles together Rail Yard, Catacombs, High Seas Fortress, all available now for 80 MSP ($1) each, plus Stage Map Pack A (160 MSP/$2) and Map Pack B (160 MSP/$2). This collection will be available on Xbox Live worldwide and PSN in North America on March 5; European PS3 owners can snag the pack on March 6.

Three new multiplayer modes are headed to the Xbox 360 of Resident Evil 6 on Tuesday, December 18: "Predator," "Survivors" and "Onslaught."Predator casts one player as the bioweapon Ustanak, while all other players attempt to bring the great beast down. Survivor mode augments regular solo/team vs. mode by making felled humans rise as zombies, who must chomp on some noggins before being able to respawn as a person.Lastly, Onslaught sounds like a weird combination of Gear of War's Horde mode and Dr. Mario's multiplayer, where two players attempt to survive separate waves of enemies, with kill combos sending more zombies to the opponent's side. Each mode will set you back 320 MS Points ($4) if purchased individually, or 720 MS Points ($9) if purchased as a bundle. No word on when this content will become available on other platforms.Update: Capcom has uploaded some footage from each new mode – feel free to vault past the break to check it out. Also, Capcom-Unity confirms that a patch will come to Xbox 360 and PS3 at the same time. This free update allows players to adjust the camera's field of view, and adds co-op to the Ada campaign and the No Hope Left difficulty mode.

For those of you who like to play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in good company (FIRED - Ed.), EA just announced a new co-op mode for four players. Onslaught Mode, available "soon" on PS3 and Xbox 360, remixes the Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay maps for use in co-op with new vehicle placements and different times of day. Players are asked to complete specific objectives in each map, with enemy AI attempting to prevent those goals. For example, the announcement specifies that "Vehicle warfare comes to the forefront in Atacama Desert while Nelson Bay focuses squarely on infantry assault." We're following up with EA about the price of this DLC, as well as the prospect of its release on PC.

Wow! Just a few weeks after the release of Bubble Bobble Wii, Taito just sneaked out a WiiWare version of its sequel, Rainbow Islands! As with Bubble Bobble, we knew that it was coming at some point, but we had yet to see any screens or gameplay information. Now it's out, and it appears to feature timed ascents up huge, vertical stages. Also out this week: a WiiWare version of The Game of Life. Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure (1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Madsecta (Onslaught) (1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) Jinsei Game (1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) In other Taito news, today marks the release of the second version of Space Invaders: The Original Game on the Japanese Virtual Console. This time, the PC Engine version of the ancient shooter is being released -- at exactly the same cost as the Super Famicom/SNES version, making the decision between the two basically a matter of platform preference. Unless silly anime-girl backgrounds make a big difference, in which case it's PC Engine all the way. It's a pretty cool WiiWare day on the PAL Wii Shop. Hudson decided to spring its WiiWare FPS, Onslaught, on an unsuspecting audience. Somehow, we doubt PAL gamers will mind waiting an extra month or so for Snowboard Riot and playing an online FPS in the meantime. The other game up today is something that we personally think looks delightful: Pop-Up Pirate!, the WiiWare version of the classic toy in which players stick swords into a barrel until someone accidentally stabs the imprisoned pirate. 02.04.2009

This June, none other than Hudson's Master Higgins himself, Takahashi Meijin, revealed early plans to make a new Adventure Island game for the Wii. We've heard almost nothing since then, until today! Hudson has told WiiWare World that a new Adventure Island is on the way to Europe for this April. We can assume it'll show up worldwide at some point as well, like every other Hudson WiiWare game. In addition, the company has announced a new WiiWare FPS called Onslaught, whose defining characteristic is that it isn't Adventure Island. We're willing to look past that flaw, however, for a four-player online multiplayer WiiWare FPS (seriously) about "blasting a massive number of enemy creatures to feel the exhilaration". Onslaught is set for European release in March.
