Unless there are very significant changes involved, updates to gaming consoles are rarely released to any fanfare, silently slipping on to the market with minor tweaks designed to rectify any teething problems associated with that model's launch. That the latest release of the PS4 Pro was so discreet is fitting, then, because its revision has made it the quietest PS4 Pro yet.

Today at Gamescom Microsoft trotted out a bevy of new Xbox hardware/software bundles, as promised. There were eight (!) in total, with the One X getting the lion's share of them. Both the One S and One X bundles share a common theme: 1 terabyte of internal storage. First-party games optimized for the One X, meaning they feature 4K resolution and HDR video, are big, and several reach 100GB. That'a over 10 percent of available internal storage per. It doesn't take having too many of those before you have to start playing virtual Tetris with game downloads.

There are destructible demons now too, with chunks falling off as you rip and tear through them.

After almost two years of teases and a few delays, we finally have our first look at how Red Dead Redemption 2 will actually play come October 26th. The gameplay trailer is directly in the vein of the videos Rockstar released in the lead-up to Grand Theft Auto V and the first Red Dead Redemption. Today's footage is a high-level overview showing off the world and its inhabitants. Towns and forests look bigger and more expansive than ever, with gorgeous mountain ranges, dank swamps and plenty in between.

Twelve years later, and Sony's having another go at smashing its flagship console and its beloved web slinger together in a way that makes more sense.

Whether you play Fortnite, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or Overwatch, you're going to want as little latency as possible between your hands and the game's servers. While you can't really account for how reliable your ISP is, by making a few smart choices you can ensure that your side of the equation is as speedy as possible. Everything from your controller to your keyboard and mouse to your display and router can affect how long it takes for a game to recognize when you put a few rounds at an enemy. It might not seem like a big deal at first, but every millisecond of delay adds up and could mean the difference between that ever-elusive chicken dinner in PUBG and going home hungry. Let's take a look at a few things you can do to optimize your online gaming experience at home.

If you've been looking for something to whet your appetite after finishing Rez Infinite on PSVR, Sony's got you covered. Tetris Effect is a trippy new project from rhythm game legend Tetsuya Mizuguchi, best known for Rez, Child of Eden and Space Channel 5. There's a lot going on in the short reveal trailer beow, but the game's website has a few descriptions that should help make sense of everything. The game will surround you with "fantastic, fully three-dimensional worlds that react and evolve based on how you play. Music, backgrounds, sounds, special effects -- everything, down to the Tetris pieces themselves, pulse, dance, shimmer and explode in perfect sync with how you're playing."

To celebrate E3 once again, Sony is doing another Days of Play promotion for PlayStation. From June 8th through the 18th, you'll be able to pick up a special edition PlayStation 4 console (assuming you're not one of the 75 million-plus who already has one), and deals on a handful of games, services and accessories. The limited edition 1TB PS4 this year is a little more tasteful than the last, trading an all-gold paint job for medium blue with gold accents according to the PlayStation Blog.

After a few bumps in the road, Yakuza 6, the latest entry in Sega's long-running gangster series is finally available for purchase in the US. That means you can finally take a stroll down the game's fictional recreation of Tokyo's Kabukicho for yourself. The game was released in Japan last December, but given how story-heavy it is, it took awhile to localize all the voice and text for Western audiences. That's fine though -- early word is that the narrative is one of, if not, the best, in the franchise and a fitting send-off to protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.

'Doom' is the latest game to get a 4K patch on consoles

The next time you venture a little south of Heaven in Doom it'll have an awful lot more Hellish detail. Developer id Software is pushing out an update tomorrow that'll bump the game's resolution pretty dramatically on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X hardware, up to 4K. Doom uses a dynamic resolution scaler (which explains how it can run on the Nintendo Switch), but at the moment the resolution is capped at 1080p. So, while the game currently looks better on PS4 Pro than base PS4 hardware, it's not playing in 4K. Unfortunately, publisher Bethesda's blog post doesn't mention HDR or what frame-rates the game will run at in UHD.

Every PS4 Pro game now supports supersampling for 1080p gamers

The latest PlayStation 4 software update is here, and it gives Pro consoles the ability to make games look better, even if you're playing on an older TV. PS4 version 5.50 comes with a supersampling mode for the Pro console, which shows games at a higher resolution and with four times the amount of visual and color info than usual. The output upgrade was designed to reduce jagged edges and to ultimately make images look sharper and clearer. In addition, the latest update adds shortcuts for music playback: square for volume control on Spotify and the Media Player and triangle for play or pause.

PlayStation profiles are now available on the web

PlayStation is putting your user profile on the web. Head over to the PlayStation website today and you'll find a new tab in the upper right corner that says "My PlayStation." Click it and you'll see what looks like a classic Facebook profile page. Your photo is in the upper left, along with your trophy collection, friends list and who's online. You can also compare your trophy progress/collection against friends. Basically, it takes a lot of the functionality you'd need to turn your PS4 on or open a mobile app to get and puts it in your browser. There's a lot of empty white space, but compared to Xbox.com's overwhelmingly cluttered dashboard -- the US PS Blog isn't much better -- the minimalism is appreciated. It feels a little too barren at this point, though.
