Yesterday in Japan, Monster Hunter fans were able to go to their local game stores and download new quests from the demo kiosk's "PlayStation Spot". In addition to quests and more, PSP owners who don't own Monster Hunter Portable 2nd can download a demo of the game. With reports of Monster Hunter 2 coming outside of Japan, let's hope this additional content is either included in the version we get, or that we can similarly download the content. I personally dig the idea of downloadable content on the PSP and I hope more games start to feature it. Does downloadable content appeal to you as well? [Via Game Watch]

If you're lucky enough to be going to Tokyo Game Show, you'll see that Sony's offering tons of game demos at their PlayStation Spot kiosks. There are eleven in all including Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, Homestar Portable, Ridge Racers 2, Bounty Hounds, LocoRoco, Exit, and more. According to Famitsu, you will need firmware 2.81 to run these demos. Hopefully these TGS demos will eventually make their way to the internet so that all of us can enjoy them. Who doesn't love game demos? [Update 1: Actually, some of these demos should appear online because some of them will be saved to your Memory Stick. Previously, Spot downloads will be erased from memory once the system was turned off. Notable game demos that will be saved on the disk include Bounty Hounds and Exit.] [Thanks, steve! Those UK kids get all the cool PSP stuff. Not only did they get Loco Roco and Pursuit Force before the rest of the world, they also have both the white and black PSP (and DS). Now, they're getting PlayStation Spot making America one of the last places to get these download kiosks. With Spot, PSP owners can walk into participating locations and get free music, videos and game demos downloaded to their systems. Participanting locations in the UK include Gamestation in Edinburgh and Birmingham, HMV and GAME in London and Virgin in Leeds, starting July 28th. Full details, and an interesting commercial, can be acquired on the official site. Now, when is America going to get the Spot?![Thanks, steve!]

While hurrying through the expo floor, shoving my way through thousands of square feet of booth babes, game devs, schwag-laden fanboys, and disinterested PR types, I finally came across the PlayStation Spot. The chrome-plated monolith reflected the lights of the convention center, calling me towards its rocky shores like a siren for weary gamers (read rocky shores as great downloadable games). You can imagine my dismay upon reading they required firmware version 2.5 to get going; my 1.5 PSP whimpered in my pocket. "Don't do it," she pleaded. "Don't upgrade my firmware.""But Lo-Loco Ra-Roco," I stuttered, before realizing there was a serviceable PSP already hooked up to the kiosk. I could play with the new shiny tech and leave my firmware at 1.5 (note to self: determine how to run homebrew on 2.0 and 2.5 firmware for E3). At around the same time, I spied Alon from the excellent ChatterBox Video Game Radio show.  How did I know it was him, you ask? Well, he looks just like his picture. This here is Alon throwing up the hand sign for "we don't want firmware 2.5! 2.0 or below, suckas!" It's nice to know there's still some folks keeping it street at GDC.Continue reading for another shot of the unit and the transcribed instructions (they're easy).
