  • Attention Pokémasters: Your iPhone just became a real-life Pokédex thanks to Wolfram Alpha and Siri

The massive information engine Wolfram Alpha just added a whopping 649 Pokémon to its database. For fans of the games, that fact is pretty cool all on its own, but if you happen to own an iPhone or an iPad with Siri, it's even more awesome. You see, thanks to Siri's ability to search Wolfram Alpha for information, your iDevice is now as close to a real-life Pokédex as you'll probably ever have. In the Pokémon television shows, movies and games, the lead character always carries around the iconic, all-knowing Pokédex which responds to voice and searches for information on any pokémon that appears. Your iDevice now works the same way: Activate Siri Ask "Search Wolfram for [insert pokémon name here]" Watch as Siri provides you with a ton of information, including its history, physical characteristics, stats and even full-color images That's it! It's a pretty nifty new feature for Pokémon fans, and combined with the fact that the new Pokémon X & Y titles just hit store shelves, it's a great time to be a Pokémaster.

The Pokémon Company has officially brought the Pokémon Pokedex to iOS. The app allows users to browse various Pokémon, check out their stats, learn where to find them, how to evolve them and more. The $1.99 purchase of the iOS Pokédex will get you access to Pokémon from the Unova region. The four remaining regions can be purchased for $5.99 each. In other words, topping up the entire Pokédex will run you about 26 bucks. It seems really out of character for a Pokémon product to support such obsessive-compulsive purchases, but there you go.%Gallery-172995%

  • Catch Mewtwo in Pokemon White and Black starting on Feb. 12

It was hard for us to trust Pokémon again after Gold and Silver came out. We had spent years learning every minute detail about the original 151, and suddenly all of that work and devotion was worthless? What's more, it needed repeating with 100 more Pokemon? We may have been young tykes, but we were old enough to feel broken.Regardless, the Kanto Pokemon still hold a special place in our hearts, and it's endearing to see one of the most awesome monsters in the OG Pokedex coming back into the fold. Starting on February 12, Mewtwo (#150 for you whippersnappers out there) will be distributed to Pokémon White/Black via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service "for a limited time."Further information about the event is forthcoming, but we do know that the legendary clone comes packing "an exclusive move that Mewtwo cannot normally learn," which we're hoping is an ability that takes us back to the days of the PokeRap and Team Rocket's original voice actors.

It may be the middle of the night, but here you are, sitting at your computer, 3DS in-hand, flipping through that brand new Pokédex. Pokémans in 3D! Well we've got good news, friend. In our travels around the E3 2011 show floor, we spotted a rare one: the Hydreigon. That's kinda like a water dragon thing, right? Anyway, if you'll pause the Pokédex for a moment and whip out your QR Code scanner, you'll snag the elusive Pokémon yourself. Sure, you can't exactly battle him against your friends, but you could always ... pose in pictures with him! Or show your friends! Or ... uh ... explore his stats! Yeah!

  • Turn your PSP into a Pokedex

For Pokefanatics not content with book versions of the Pokedex, or the in-game version, there is a homebrew for you -- assuming you have a PSP, of course. Xandu has created the PokedexPSP and its aim is simple: it allows you to view the Pokedex on your PSP. Find out where you can discover a Snorlax, or the gender ratio of Bulbasaurs in the game. Don't get too excited though, there are a few issues with the PokedexPSP. First off, it only has 386 Pokemon from Fire Red and Leaf Green, so it won't be suitable as a guide for newer Diamond and Pearl games. Also, the program still has to have a few Beedrills to be ironed out. It has no search function, runs a bit slow and hits crash city now and again. Still, there are plenty of Pokefans out there hoping a perfect version is in the cards. [Via DCEmu]

If you'd like a crash course on the 107 new Pokemon in the Diamond/Pearl generation, which includes the new DS games and Pokemon Battle Revolution, then this GamesRadar article might come in handy. It's an exhaustive Pokedex of the new creatures, and includes name, type, abilities, location, and information about evolution. What strikes us as we look at this list is how weird the names of Pokemon have gotten. Maybe it's because we've had ten years or so to get used to the older names, but the new ones are jarringly nonsensical. See Bidoof above. Unfortunately, Game|Life's Chris Kohler beat us to the "Let Me Show You Them" headline for his post about the article. We'll try to get the next one![Via Game|Life]

Recent scans from the Japanese magazine Coro Coro have revealed a few new game details on the mysterious Pokemon: Diamond and Pokemon: Pearl. Among the translated information is the return of the day/night system, with four distinct periods (dawn, day, dusk, and night) that will affect Pokemon behavior and appearance. In addition, male and female characters will now look different in-game; one of the genders might be larger, be missing certain features, or have different skin patterns. The traditional Pokedex will also be upgraded to include more than twenty features, including time management, type charts, monitoring of Pokemon in the breeding center, and more. The Pokemon games have no confirmed release date in North America, but it shouldn't be too long before the market drops ten gajillion dollars on this tried-and-true franchise.[Thanks Nushio, you tip-crazy fiend you][Update 1: clarified unknown N. American release date]
