Google's Fuchsia operating system -- transparent in development yet mysterious in purpose -- now works on a third device: Google's $1,000 Pixelbook. The OS, which has been likened to an Android re-do but appears to be built from scratch, also works on the Acer Switch Alpha 12 laptop and old Intel NUCs from 2015.

  • Watch PS3 run Starcraft (with help from Linux & Windows)

With the PS3's ability to allow you to install your own OS, tech junkies have been tinkering with the console's potential since its launch a few Novembers back. There is one thing we haven't seen yet, though -- and that's a PS3 running Starcraft!Accomplished through the use of Windows 95, with Qemu and Yellow Dog Linux, you too can can crush Zerg scum with the Protoss on your PS3. (Just don't think you're going to get Crysis to run on the thing.) Linux and Qemu really hog the Cell processor, so a low-end game like Starcraft is as stable as it gets. Zerg rush past the break to watch the video.[Thanks, Evan!]

Don't mind Bill's trash talk about the Cell processor; surely he would approve of you running Windows on it! Well, not exactly directly on the Cell processor ... rather through the QEMU virtualization software running in Yellow Dog Linux on the PlayStation 3, as shown at the PlayStation.com forums. Thanks to the ability to install alternative operating systems, curious (and masochistic) gamers can load up all sorts of crazy things on their PS3s. We'd like to see someone load up Windows Media Center and use it to stream video from their PS3 to their Xbox 360. Or maybe, install that x86 build of Mac OS X in QEMU under Linux, then run Windows XP via Parallels under that, and then run VMWare running Linux under that. And then get the hell out of there before your PS3 implodes.[Thanks, Xenokai]
