If you're preparing to strap on your cowboy boots and venture into the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 when the sequel hits consoles at the end of next month, you'll have to wait a little longer to play the game's online mode. Rockstar Games said that Red Dead Online will arrive in November, and it will be a public beta at first.

After almost two years of teases and a few delays, we finally have our first look at how Red Dead Redemption 2 will actually play come October 26th. The gameplay trailer is directly in the vein of the videos Rockstar released in the lead-up to Grand Theft Auto V and the first Red Dead Redemption. Today's footage is a high-level overview showing off the world and its inhabitants. Towns and forests look bigger and more expansive than ever, with gorgeous mountain ranges, dank swamps and plenty in between.

The amount of people ready to drop a serious amount of cash on Red Dead Redemption 2 might have just increased by quite a bit. VG247 is reporting that Rockstar Games is preparing to launch the much-hyped title on the PC, as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The site found a LinkedIn profile, which Engadget has independently verified, of a developer who worked for Rockstar for almost a decade. Their resume includes a reference to Red Dead Redemption 2 for "PS4/XBox1/PC."

Red Dead Redemption 2 is still over six months away at this point, but we've got a new trailer to dissect in the meantime. The trailer is all about narrative and setting a tone, but looking closer, developer Rockstar Games tucked a handful of gameplay clues into the 128-second video. Fist-fights, train robberies and sitting down for a stage show all look like side-activities for when you need a break from taking missions in The Dead West.

Xbox One X enhancements come to 'Red Dead Redemption' and 'Portal 2'

Red Dead Redemption 2 might not launch for several months, but Microsoft is giving you the next best thing. The company has added Xbox One X visual enhancements to six classic Xbox 360 games, including the original Red Dead Redemption. If you've wanted to revisit John Marston's saga on your 4K TV, this is likely as good as it gets until the sequel arrives. Not that the other games are obscure -- Darksiders, Gears of War 2, Portal 2, Sonic Generations (the first time it's available on Xbox One, in fact) and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed are making the leap as well.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released October 26th. That gives you just under nine months to round up a posse for Rockstar Games' next adventure in the Dead West. The developer apologized for the delays -- last May it promised RDR 2 would be out this spring, and before that, it was scheduled for Fall 2017 -- saying that it's using the extra time to add some polish to the game. Rockstar didn't have much else to share, but teased that more information will be coming soon. Until then, enjoy the new screenshots below.

'Red Dead Redemption 2' trailer introduces a new anti-hero

While the original Red Dead Redemption was about a wistful cowboy trying to make things right, its sequel sounds a bit different. In Red Dead Redemption 2, you're playing as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw, who along with his Van Der Linde gang, seems out to rob pretty much anyone who crosses his path. The biggest takeaways from the trailer (embedded below) are just how good Morgan's face looks and the vastness of the wilderness. And, really, that's about it for the 90 second clip. Spring 2018 isn't that far away though, and hopefully the next trailer will either dive further into Morgan's backstory or show off actual gameplay.

'Red Dead Redemption 2' won't come out in 2017 after all

Apparently, 2017 ain't big enough for Red Dead Redemption 2. The sequel is now slated to hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in spring 2018, rather than its initial release window of fall 2017. Rockstar Games announced the delay in a blog post, alongside a handful of fresh apology screenshots. "This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans," Rockstar says. "We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready."

Red Dead Redemption 2 may not arrive until next fall, but next week you'll be able to play both its predecessor and Undead Nightmare on PlayStation 4 and PC. Thanks to PlayStation Now streaming, you can get reacquainted with the PS3 classic on December 6th. Of course, Xbox One owners have been able to gather their posses for action since this summer. PS4 players did get Red Dead Revolver last month, but Redemption is the title a lot of fans were waiting for.

Red Dead Redemption hit the last generation of console games with studio Rockstar's signature flair, taking Grand Theft Auto's sandbox gameplay and spreading it across the boundless beauty and brutality of the American Wild West. Two days ago, a teaser poster revealed that there would be a sequel to the with a release in Fall 2017 with an ominous gang of seven gunslingers. Today, Rockstar released the first trailer for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2.

Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar has been teasing a new Red Dead game in recent days, and we now know what it is: Red Dead Redemption 2. The third game in the series, it's described as "an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland." Where the story will pickup from is unknown. Given the events of the first Redemption, it's likely to be a prequel. The only promotional imagery we have so far is of a band of seven characters against a sunset -- with the central figure looking a lot like the series' protagonist, John Marston. But if it is a prequel, why call it Redemption 2? Are we maybe looking at a relative, or an all-new character? We'll hopefully have some answers on October 20th, when a trailer drops at 11AM ET. As well as the expected single-player mode, Rockstar says "the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience." The game is due out in fall 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One -- there is no mention of PC support anywhere in the promotional material.

The rumors of a new Red Dead game appear to be true. Over the weekend, developer Rockstar posted some less than subtle studio logos with the series' iconic red and black color scheme. Now, we have our first piece of art -- seven silhouetted individuals, walking forward with a bright sunset (or sunrise?) in the background. Has the studio been working on a prequel? A sequel? The group could be a reference to the gang John Marston rolled with before the events of Red Dead Redemption. Or maybe the Magnificent Seven, an iconic Western (inspired by Seven Samurai) recently remade with Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Vincent D'Onofrio, among others.

Sure, Xbox One owners have been able to play Red Dead Redemption since this summer, but Sony fans have been left out in the cold on PlayStation 4. Well, that's sort of changing. The game's progenitor, Red Dead Revolver, is the latest PlayStation 2 port from Rockstar Games to grace the PS4. But unlike past instances, you won't have to wait a week for the game to mosey over to the US PlayStation store from its European counterpart.

Need a break from Overwatch, or, if you're lucky, the Battlefield 1 alpha? Well, if you're an Xbox One owner, you should definitely check out the newly backwards-compatible Red Dead Redemption. If you still have your Xbox 360 disc hanging around, simply pop it in and download the update and you're good to go. Folks who own the game digitally can simply download it from the "my games and apps" section. Same with the Undead Nightmare story expansion pack.

Ever since Microsoft announced backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, gamers have campaigned for the inclusion of Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. The open-world western is yet to grace Microsoft's 100+ strong list of available games, but the probability of it making an appearance was given a massive boost after it briefly appeared on the Xbox One marketplace for a few hours over the weekend.

You aren't alone in your desire to play Rockstar Games' old West epic Read Dead Redemption on your Xbox One -- Microsoft's director of program management Mike Ybarra wants to play it again, too. "I would love to see Red Dead," he said of making the Xbox 360 game backwards-compatible. In a recent interview, Ybarra revealed that it's a personal favorite and that he's played hundreds of hours of the dusty 2010 open world game. Behind Call of Duty: Black Ops II, it's number two on the list of fan-requested titles for the just launched Xbox One backwards compatibility feature.

Music can tame the most savage beast, but when you're slinking around a cargo ship as a super spy, playing cowboy or making your way toward a massive mountain in the distance, sometimes you don't want calm. You want dirty, wistful or haunting tracks to fit the action onscreen. The best video game scores stick with you long after you turn the TV off, though, and that's what we want to highlight here. We're pretty big fans of how they've progressed throughout the years from simple beeps and boops to full-blown symphonic masterpieces that've traveled through concert halls around the world. Just below you'll find the scores the Engadget Gaming crew's most fond of and one that we don't particularly care for but felt like calling attention to anyhow. • 'BioShock' series lives on with help from the second game's dev team

The news that BioShock and BioShock Infinite developer Irrational Games was winding down was a punch to the gut for many last year, but it turns out there is a bit of silver lining. The franchise will live on with developer 2K Marin, the studio that handled BioShock 2, according to GameSpot. Someone at the Cowen and Company analyst conference apparently made a remark that the BioShock series hadn't quite reached its commercial potential yet, and Take-Two Interactive head Strauss Zelnick agreed, saying that the NorCal team would be responsible for its "shepherding going forward." BioShock 2 did pretty okay critically and commercially, but many (including myself) felt its tour through Rapture was little more than a retread and that it lacked the first game's magic. With how Infinite ended, it's anyone's guess where the series' fiction could wind up next.

Since GameSpy announced that it was shuttering its online mulitplayer services come May 31st, a few companies have adressed how their respective legacy games would keep functioning in the future. Rockstar Games has recently come out with its two-years-in-the-making solution, and, well, there's a direct relationship between how old a game is and the number of features it'll lose. With last year's Grand Theft Auto V, there's nothing to worry about -- it's business as usual for players as the outfit converts to its own system for hosting online services like multiplayer and progression tracking. Internet play will remain intact for Red Dead Redemption (posse up!) and Grand Theft Auto IV, but online stat-tracking and leaderboards -- and "in-game Social Club services," for the former -- hosted via the Rockstar Social Club won't.
