The US has a few dedicated eSports arenas, but what about its northern neighbor? Don't worry, you're covered there, too. Myesports Ventues has announced that it's opening The Gaming Stadium, billed as Canada's first eSports stadium, in Vancouver (specifically Richmond) sometime in 2019. It won't be a massive location, but it will have room for 250 fans, 40 gaming stations and broadcasters. You can expected food and drinks, of course, as well as an open casual gaming space. The creators are promising competitions at "all skill levels" as well as coaching for those looking to boost their talents.

Not only did Verizon pick up nearly a quarter-million new FiOS TV subscribers in Q3, but it's looking to make sure even more Americans have an opportunity to join in during Q4. This week, the carrier has received approval to light up its fiber-based TV service in several more New York communities -- Port Washington North in Nassau County, the Town of Fishkill / City of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, Schuylerville, Throgs Neck and Edgewater Park in the Bronx, and Sheepshead Bay and Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn. Additionally, it added in 53 new HD channels in Richmond / Hampton Roads, VA, 10 more in Harrisburg, PA and 16 in Rhode Island. We'll see you next week -- here's to hoping your neck of the woods gets covered within the next seven days.Read - New York expansion IRead - New York expansion IIRead - Hampton Roads, VA additionsRead - Richmond, VA additionsRead - Harrisburg, PA additionsRead - Rhode Island additions

Can't say it still feels like summer in some parts of the US, but regardless of semantics, DirecTV is forging ahead with its HD locals rollout. Effective immediately, a half dozen more markets can find at least a couple of the big broadcast stations in HD, with Mobile, Richmond, South Bend, Syracuse, Toledo and Youngstown all getting gifted. For details on which DMA got which stations, head on down to the read link.[Thanks, VANBROTHERS]

For the second time this month, we're seeing a local news station in Virginia make the leap to HD. Richmond's own NBC12 (WWBT) threw the lever earlier this week, making it the first local station in the market to bring high-def news to nearby citizens. As this rate, pretty much all of VA will be watching their 6:00PM news in high-def before the decade ends. Makes sense, though -- after all, Virginia is for (HD) lovers. We know, we know...[Thanks, Matthew]

If you're a Comcast user currently living without Science HD, Disney HD and ABC Family HD, you probably won't be that way for long. Just when we thought the rollouts of these three were slowing down, in comes a report from the Richmond / Chesterfield, Virginia area proclaiming that the whole bunch has arrived there, too. Care to gift any other cities today, dear Comcast?[Thanks, Rusty]

After the onslaught of rapid-fire HD locals launches in March, all has been quiet on the DISH Network front -- until now. Four more markets can gleefully celebrate the homecoming of HD locals via DISH: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tampa, Florida, Cleveland, Ohio and Richmond, Virginia. Each of the aforementioned locales will be receiving their respective local ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX stations save for Milwaukee, which will sadly miss out on CBS. You're all giddy, aren't you? The HD locals go live for these four regions on April 10th at 6:00AM ET -- yeah, tomorrow!

If you thought the HD rollouts from Comcast were dwindling down, you've got another thing coming. It appears that Richmond, Virginia will be picking up four newcomers as well on April 15th, notching AMC HD (218), CNN HD (234), History HD (237) and Animal Planet HD (241). Also of note, another foursome of channels -- History Channel, Cartoon Network, G4TV and ION -- have gone all digital. Got any more Comcast? We're sure users all over the US would love to get in while you're being generous.[Thanks, Kevin]

Following up on Sprint's announcement to spread the WiMAX love to Chicago and Washington, D.C., Horizon is looking to broaden that area of coverage out just a bit by partnering with Navini Networks. This news comes after the FCC approved Horizon's purchase of the WCS A Block spectrum previously owned by the diminishing Verizon, and now the firm is looking to deploy the wireless goods in "Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Richmond, and Cincinnati" for starters. Horizon has selected Navini's 802.16e equipment to get things up and running, and states that its objective it to "provide wireless last mile access to residential, business, and emergency restoration markets," but folks in rural areas will seemingly get shunned for now. Horizon isn't wasting any time getting this thing started, either, as it plans to start building the network in Q1 of this year, with hopes for "ongoing expansion and additional network deployments in the latter part of 2007."[Via TheWirelessReport]

  • "Forget those other guys, I want a Wii" says journalist

Journalists are tough. I mean, us gaming journalists are about average when it comes to the ability to take an ass, no matter the size, and kick it, but journalists in far off lands covering atrocities or who-shot-who down at the local laundromat are in a class all their own. That's why when they talk about the Wii, we listen."To tell the truth, I'm looking forward to the Wii more than the PS 3. Why Wii? Because it has built-in interactivity. It comes with a remote-control wand that will read your physical motions. If you're playing some baseball games, for instance, you'll be able to swing the wand, and the game will read your swing."As a writer for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Doug Elfman (not to be confused with Danny Elfman) has won many awards and is also a well-respected TV critic at the Chicago Sun-Times. That list of credentials pretty much guarantees him chicks clout with us and helps strengthen an already rock-hard stance of support for Nintendo's console here at Wii Fanboy. Serious human beings are looking forward to it, so it must be good![Via Codename Revolution]
