And now for a trip way down memory lane. Edge of Remorse was created for a contest in the summer of 2006. Let that sink in. This machinima is 6 years old. This astounding video by Riot Films still stands strong as an impressive, story-driven masterpiece. According to Riot Films, the movie is about: "Darien, Selven, and Ana - three lives destined with conflict. Even through time and distance, these three shall always remain together." We don't see many single piece epics like these. I hope to see that change, but until we get a new flood of stand-alone machinima stories... let's kick back and enjoy Edge of Remorse. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.

Machinima's a pretty big topic. Depending on who you talk to, "machinima" could include story-based movies, PvP footage, boss kills, music videos, and even videography of altered in-game landscapes. There are uncounted thousands of videos about World of Warcraft roaming the internet, so it can be very difficult to know where to start. In honor of the ticket queue for BlizzCon 2009, Moviewatch presents seven machinima movies and machinimators you should know. Certainly, these aren't the only 7 movies or authors you should know, but they do include some of the most popular staples of the art. If you find yourself chatting it up with a machinima enthusiast around the BlizzCon water cooler, you can probably be certain they've seen these shows. We went for variety in this selection, choosing videos with different styles and subjects. They certainly aren't listed in "countdown to the best" format, since trying to rate these videos like that would be dang near impossible. Instead, they are simply listed alphabetically, according to the creator of the movie.Check out the selection behind the cut.

To quote our next Cinemassively Machinimator, Sangkaratul , "Love is a crime, whose beginning is a glance and whose ending is eternity." 9 Crimes, set in World of Warcraft, is based on a song of the same name by Damien Rice. It is a tragic love story that delivers all the way up to the credits.Speaking of credits, Sangkaratul is very thankful. He thanked his family, his cat, our sister site WoW Insider, and even Riot Films, who definitely influenced this film's direction. Everything about this video is stunning, yet the director claims that this is his first piece. We should all be so lucky!
