  • Acer Iconia Smart hits the FCC, readies to smack AT&T with 1024 x 480 screen?

Acer promised a 4.8-inch, 1024 x 480 tabletphone would arrive in April 2011, and April's nearly through -- but don't cross off the Acer Iconia Smart yet, because that brushed aluminum frame has just materialized at our favorite government institution. Yes, the FCC laid eyes on radiation test reports for the Android 2.3 device, which reveal that the quad-band GSM handset is headed to both Canada and the US. Given that the North American version only has 850, 1900 and 2100MHz 3G frequencies, it sounds like a lock for AT&T. Inside, you'll find a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, 512MB each of ROM and RAM, an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, a 2 megapixel front-facing cam, micro-HDMI output capable of 720p, a 1500mAh user-replaceable battery and all the usual 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS trimmings you'd expect. Now, Acer, how about a new release date?

  • Toshiba's Satellite Pro S300-EZ2521 is as bland as they come

Ready for one more excuse to snooze through hump day? Here you go. Toshiba's Satellite Pro S300-EZ2521, obviously the latest in its growing S300 line, is about as perfectly average as a 15.4-inch laptop can be. We're talking a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a 250GB (5400RPM) hard drive, SuperMulti DVD burner, WXGA resolution panel, GMA 4500MHD graphics, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a built-in webcam. Furthermore, the actual enclosure just screams "Designed For Office Cubes," and while we don't have confirmation just yet, we'd wager that the 40 metric tons of bloatware would further substantiate that claim. There's no mention of a price, but those in the market for a strictly-business machine should find it shipping any day now.

  • Toshiba rolls out four new Satellite Pro S300-series laptops

Toshiba sure seems to love a quiet, conservative business laptop, and for good reason -- the last thing you need in the offices of middle America is a sudden dash of color causing a "wig out" as bad as anything you'd experience on a tab of Beige Sunshine. Certainly not bucking this trend, ol' Tosh has just added four more 15.4-inch widescreen Satellite Pro S300 series notebooks to its roster. Both the S300-EZ1511 and S300-EZ1512 sport an Intel Pentium T3400 processor, 1GB memory, and a 120GB hard drive. Selling for $529, the former sports integrated GMA 4500M graphics and Vista Home Basic, while the later is going for $579 with GMA 4500MHD graphics and Vista Business. Moving on up the ladder, $649 will land you the S300-EZ1513, which sports an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor, 160GB hard disk storage, 1GB memory and GMA 4500MHD graphics. Lastly but certainly not leastly, the S300-EZ1514 comes to the table with a Core 2 Duo T6570 processor, 2GB of memory, GMA 4500MHD graphics and a 160GB hard drive. This bad boy will set you back a cool $699.[Via iTech News]

  • Mio launches four new Moov navigators at CES

There's no Turbo Boost or anything involved with this bunch, but Mio has launched four mildly interesting navigators for 2009. The new Moovs all sport an improved "Spirit" software platform, and while the S300 features a 3.5-inch panel, text-to-speech and 12 million POIs, the S500 steps up to a 4.7-inch panel. The Moov S556 keeps the same 4.7-inch display but adds in Bluetooth and Junction View, while the S700 breaks out a 7-inch panel. The whole lot is supposed to ship before the second half of this year for $199.99, $249.99, $299.99 and $299.99 in order of mention.[Via GPSTracklog]

  • Forget Black Friday -- $175 Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player here now

Sure, we might see $150 Blu-ray players on Black Friday, but how's about a $175 Sony right now? Okay, so maybe $176.96 isn't quite a buck seventy-five, but with a little digging we're sure you can uncover a coupon. Sony's BDP-S300, which has been free-falling in price over the past few weeks, has hit a new low at Circuit City. You should know, however, that this here player isn't apt to last long, and that "Outlet" tag makes us even more fearful of limited stock. So, the magic question: buy in (at long last), or hold out just a bit longer?[Thanks, Darren F.]%Gallery-36403%

  • Toshiba launches Satellite Pro S300 / S300M laptops

Toshiba's never been one to really pump out laptops with oodles of sex appeal (a few Portégé machines notwithstanding), and its latest two are decidedly drab. Aimed squarely at business users, the 15.4-inch Satellite Pro S300 and the 14-inch Satellite Pro S300M (shown after the break) both include a 2-year warranty, support for docking, a business card reader, a USB Sleep-and-Charge / eSATA combo port and face recognition software. As for the S300, you can snag it with your choice of a Core 2 Duo CPU, up to 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB 5,400 RPM hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner, WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Intel's GMA4500MHD graphics, a built-in webcam / microphone and a 9-cell battery pack; the S300M gives you pretty much the same options but with a smaller screen and chassis. Take your pick, as they're both available to order right now starting at $899 / $829 in order of mention.[Via Notebooks]

Sony's BDP-S300 has seemingly always been at the forefront of Blu-ray price drops, and while we were pretty stoked to see it hit $299 last December, the very solid 1080p player has now reached an unquestionably delectable $199.98. On sale at Amazon "while supplies last," the deck combines a name you've heard of with a price point you can probably stomach, and moreover, we're hoping this is just the beginning of an industry-wide effort to lower the barrier to entry for BD. Scoop it on up if this is the moment you've been waiting (and waiting) for.[Thanks, Tyba]

Get ready for a flood of Centrino 2 laptops, kids -- hot on the heels of Intel's big announcement and Sony and Lenovo's updated lineups comes Toshiba with the new Satellite Pro S300, Tecra M10 and A10, and Qosmio X305, F55 and Cell-based G55. The Qosmios actually aren't that new -- all three of them were initially announced back in June, but they're actually available now, with the gaming-oriented X305 exclusive to Best Buy. The $1,299 Satellite Pro S300 (pictured) is a little more interesting, with a 2.4GHz P8600 Core 2 Duo on Centrino 2's 1066MHz bus and Intel 4500MD integrated graphics powering a 15.4-inch display, as well as sleep-and-charge USB ports and a docking port. The more business-oriented Tecra lappies also get a similar Centrino 2 treatment, sharing a motherboard design to reduce repair costs. The $1,399 M10 sports a 14.1-inch screen, while the 15.4-inch A10's pricing hasn't been announced. Heads-up, BDP-S300 owners -- Sony has just unleashed a new firmware update for your machine. Posted today, the v3.90 update will bring you, well, we're not exactly sure what. According to users at AVSForum, the general consensus is that TrueHD support just has to be in there, but Sony's servers are so glacially slow that no one has been able to confirm or deny just yet. Once your download manages to complete (hey, it takes awhile when it's being uploaded from what appears to be a 14.4k modem connection), feel free to discuss any notable changes in comments below.[Via AVSForum, thanks Peter]

We know, we know, we're really late on this one -- thanks Sony -- but around here we think it's important to review every Blu-ray player. And we're sure there are some who don't want to wait for the replacement due out in a few months, so here's the impressions of Sony's current entry level Blu-ray player. The good news is that although this player is missing many critical features, it shares just about everything we loved with the much more expensive BDP-95FD that we reviewed last month (psst: it's obvious that Pioneer and Sony work together on their Blu-ray players). So if picture-in-picture, internet content, TrueHD and DTS-HD aren't important to you, then you may want to save some money and pick one of these up now.%Gallery-20431%

  • German retailer discounting Sony BDP-S300 for HD DVD player trade-in

We're not exactly sure what German retailer Saturn plans to do with any HD DVD players that are surrendered as folks waltz in to take advantage of its latest offer, but we suppose the refurbished section could receive a boost in inventory if nothing else. Judging by a recent flier from the store, it's offering consumers a €150 ($221) discount on Sony's BDP-S300 -- which is overpriced at €499 ($734) -- if they trade their HD DVD player in at the time of purchase. Also of note, we can't seem to find if there's any fine print about what HD DVD players are acceptable, but it is certain that this deal is only available overseas at the moment. Not a bad idea to get customers to jump ship, though.[Via Blu-ray, thanks Bhargav N.]

  • Pantech's curvy SKY IM-S300

In its domestic Korean market, the IM-S300 slider from Pantech's SKY division is apparently being touted as the "Romantic Wave," and we guess we're hard pressed to disagree. The wavy buttons front and center look really cool -- usability aside, of course -- though the 1.3 megapixel cam leads us to believe that physical design is where the high-endedness ends on this one. If you happen to be around Seoul, grab it for something in the range of 400,000 won (about $430) in black or white (with pink accents, no less).[Via Just Another Mobile Phone Blog]

That sound you hear? Yeah, it's the much anticipated falling of prices in Blu-ray land. Following Samsung's slashing of the BD-P1400, Sony has come around and taken the BDP-S300 from $600 down to $499 down to $299.99, which is where it currently sits. The unit is priced as such at Best Buy and Circuit City, and judging by the whispers we've heard, we have all ideas this isn't a temporary / store specific sale.[Thanks, Kyran R.]Read - BDP-S300 at Best BuyRead - BDP-S300 at Circuit City

  • MSI to announce S300, another crystal-studded laptop

    01.07.2007

MSI is answering the calls for all you aspiring luxists who were hoping for the style of an M677, but demand something a bit more portable. The soon to be announced S300 offers the same 120 Swarowski crystal-encrusted ring, but rather than a 15.4-inch screen it sports a more manageable 13.3-inch. The rest of the specs are pretty standard for this kind of laptop: a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 3-in-1 card reader, and a 120GB hard drive. While there's no mention on availability or price yet, with all the cake you'll save over the Tulip's Ego, you can snatch up one of these and still be able to splurge on that "one of a kind" Vertu.

  • Qtek to get its HTC Muse, the S300, early

Remember the HTC Muse Windows Mobile 5.0 multimedia phone? You know, the one with 4GB of NAND storage dedicated to media files as well as dual cameras, including a 2.1 megapixel shooter with flash? Well anyway, DigiTimes is reporting that HTC will be shipping Qtek its version of the Muse, the S300 (not to be confused with Dopod's S300, based on another HTC design called the Star Trek), earlier than expected, as part of HTC's commitment to first release their HSDPA-enabled handsets in European markets. Qtek should be getting their Muses, which also sport 416MHz processors, 64MB of both RAM and ROM, WiFi, Bluetooth, and FM tuners, sometime in the third quarter, according to "market sources." Besides its lack of a keyboard (or even a numberpad, for that matter) and frustrating inclusion of that 240 x 240 display, the Muse looks to us like a pretty hot model, and will certainly give Nokia's N91, Sony Ericsson's W950i, and Samsung's i300 musicphones some strong competition.[Via the::unwired]

Good times can be had over at our sister site, Engadget Chinese, which has managed some alone time with two recent releases, the LG KG800 Chocolate and Dopod S300 HTC Star Trek. Both phones are plenty sexy in their own way, with the KG800's obvious aesthetics leading the charge, but the S300's ability to pack in all that Windows Mobile goodness in such a small package earning it plenty of kudos as well. Decisions, decisions.Read: LG KG800Read: Dopod S300
