Pentax Optio I-10, Nikon S3000 and Canon PowerShot SX210 IS seen in the wild
'Tis a nice day to dream about how much you could capture with a shiny new point-and-shoot, isn't it? Our best buds over at Engadget Chinese were recently able to swing by an exhibition far, far away from US shores in order to catch some of the Spring's finest new pocket shooters in action. The standouts? Canon's succulent PowerShot SX210 IS (spotted in a variety of hues), Nikon's 12 megapixel Coolpix S3000 and Pentax's Optio I-10. We'll confess -- that I-10 really has our number, and its retro styling and accompanying leather case could find its way into our pockets any day. Just sayin', is all. Nikon kicks out new Coolpix S- and L-series cams
Keeping with the pre-PMA announcements, Nikon also launched the S and L series of cams just now -- the S stands for "Style," and L stands for "Life." The Ls are the low-end of the bunch -- Life is apparently cheaper than Style -- and you've got two choices: the $280 L110 superzoom, which has a 15x optical zoom lens in front of a 12.3 megapixel sensor and a 3-inch 460,000-dot LCD, or the $130 L22 compact, which has a 3.6x zoom and a 12 megapixel sensor, and comes in many colors because low-end camera have to come in rainbow colors or the Best Buy people won't say they're any good. Nikon says the new $299 S8000 pictured above is the most notable of the Style line, mostly because of its 10x zoom, 720p video, 921,000-dot LCD for previewing. Yeah, not bad at all. After that it's just incrementally sadder steps down the features scale: the $249 S6000 has a 7x lens and a 230,000-dot LCD, the $200 S4000 adds touchscreen controls to its 3-inch 460,000-dot LCD but has a 12 megapixel sensor and a 4x zoom, and the $149 S3000 has a 2.7-inch LCD, a 4x zoom, and probably isn't interesting to you at all. HP gets busy with new desktops: the s3000, a6000 and m8000 series
So HP's trying to get all lifestyle-friendly with a few new desktop PC designs, and while the looks and form factors aren't a huge departure for HP by any means, the prices are right, specs are decent, and the looks aren't too shabby. The real looker of the bunch is the relatively tiny HP Pavilion Slimline s3000 series, which starts at $500 with an AMD processor and 1GB of RAM, or $550 if you're going the Intel route. You can configure the desktop with a TV tuner, a couple low rent video cards, and there's a Pocket Media Drive bay option if you're into that kind of thing. If that's still too spendy for you, you can grab from the a6000 set, with prices starting at $330 for an Intel processor, 512MB of RAM, a Pocket Media Drive bay, integrated graphics and not much else. Finally, the m8000 desktops get "fancy" with options for HD DVD drives, beefy dual core processors from AMD or Intel, and prices starting at $950. All of the computers come with Vista preloaded -- which might give these limited specs a bit of a work out -- and are available now.%Gallery-2639%
