We don't tend to get excited about any CCD sensor-equipped point-and-shoot nowadays, but Nikon's Coolpix S3500 has at least one feature that we don't often see on a camera in this price range: lens-shift optical image stabilization, or Vibration Reduction (VR). Otherwise, this point-and-shoot's specifications are par for the course, and include a 20.1-megapixel CCD sensor, a 7x, f/3.4-6.4 optical zoom lens and a rather-weak QVGA (320 x 240-pixel) LCD. It can shoot 720p video, too, though we wouldn't expect industry-leading IQ. At $139, the S3500 is priced right for casual photographers, and its orange, pink, purple, red and silver color schemes should appease most digicam-hungry tweens. Hop past the break for some talking points from Nikon HQ.

OK, just because the Samsung GT-S3500 slider may look like a really basic set, OK yeah, you're right, it is. While running a little on the homely side of the tracks, it does make use of stainless for the body, quad-band EDGE, has FM radio with RDS, 2 megapixel shooter, and a 2.2-inch display. Things like Bluetooth also find some space inside so wired headsets won't be your only recourse for safe talking on the go. Pricing seems set at 7500 rubles (roughly $200) and is apparently hitting the shops now, in Russia.

There's no two ways about it -- Samsung's S3500 is good with the basics, and that's about it. The handset is apt to be sold in China as the Anycall S3500C, and there's an even better shot we'll get more details on this thing at Mobile World Congress. For now, we're told that it sports tri-band GSM connectivity, EDGE data, an FM radio, multimedia player, QVGA display, a built-in webcam and 35MB of free storage for your five favorite Willy Nelson jams. Mum's the word on a price, but you can bet it'll be affordable.
