The Humble THQ Bundle received a couple little bonus additions today, in the form of Titan Quest and the Red Faction: Armageddon downloadable content "Path of War." Titan Quest was a Diablo-esque RPG created by the now shuttered Iron Lore studios. Red Faction: Armageddon's "Path of War" DLC was released shortly after THQ announced it would abandon the franchise. The Humble THQ Bundle, which includes a cornucopia of the publisher's games, earned over $2 million in 24 hours. With six days to go on the pay-what-you-want bundle, it's currently pulled in $3.7 million, with the average purchase of the eight-game bundle a mere $5.58. That's about four and half shares of THQ stock.Update: Little bit of confusion about whether those who previously purchased the bundle receive the new items. Yes, you do. Follow the link you received in your purchase confirmation email.

A bright spot in THQ's awkwardly brief investor call today: the company reports that Saints Row: The Third has shipped five million units, in line with the performance THQ expected from the crass sandbox game over its lifetime.A sequel is currently underway, due "beyond fiscal 2013," meaning sometime after April 2013. It incorporates content from a canceled SR3 expansion, Enter the Dominatrix.

Despite its crass and often offensive tone, Saints Row: The Third was quite well done, and turned the well-traveled sandbox urban action genre on its head a few times. Don't believe us? This weekend is your chance to find out for free, as the game is free-to-play until Sunday over on Steam. For the cost of your bandwidth and an hour or so of downloading, you can take a trip to Steelport, and be both disgusted and thrilled at the same time. And if you like the game as much as we did, you can buy it on Steam for just $13.59, 66% off of the standard price. This one's not for the kids, but it is as much fun as you'll have flying around in a hovercraft all year long.

Certain owners of the PC version of Saints Row: The Third have had performance issues, such as low framerates and generally slow performance. In a statement on the game's forum, Volition clarified that the problem seems isolated to AMD and ATi GPUs. "This has mostly been seen with cards in the 5xxx or 6xxx range."Volition reports that efforts to patch these issues have shown "mild improvement." Unfortunately, "we're still not up the level of quality we all expect from a Volition game, and we thank you for your patience as we work with AMD for a solution." If you're affected by this issue, maybe it'll make you feel better to know Volition's working on it? Not quite as good as it would feel to play Saints Row: The Third, but at least better.[Thanks, Keith.]

Saints Row: The Third is a great game and for the rest of the day the downloadable PC version is only $10 on Amazon. Think fast if beating someone with a giant purple phallus is worth the entrance fee, because this deal will end at midnight Pacific time (Spoiler: it's totally worth it in every way conceivable). If you find $10 too little to pay for so much game, there's plenty of DLC to purchase. Let your freak flag fly as a giant wiener! If you took that last line to mean something else than dressing up as a hot dog, we'd understand the potential confusion given the subject at hand.THQ announced late last month its Saints Row: The Third standalone expansion, Enter the Dominatrix, intended for September, will now be incorporated into "The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise" next year.

Survival Diary, Day Four:I don't know how much longer I can keep hiding here. It was safe at first; quiet even, like a snow-packed forest or the very depths of the sea, but his footsteps continue to grow closer. Eventually, he's going to find me, and when he does the very core of me will be torn inside out and used to purchase games like Saints Row: The Third, The Walking Dead or any number of the other games on sale today.I know now that my sanctuary beneath the sofa is no longer a sufficient haven in which to ensconce myself, so I must attempt to find new refuge. There's a very good chance this is my last entry, so please, if you find this, tell the pocket watch I love her.Always,Wallet

THQ announced this morning its Saints Row: The Third standalone expansion, Enter the Dominatrix, has been canceled for September and will be incorporated in "The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise" (working title) next year."I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game," said THQ president Jason Rubin. "We believe the potential for this sequel is far greater as a full-priced, full-length, high quality, connected experience."The change is expected to create a $20 million reduction in revenue for the precarious publisher by the close of its fiscal year next March. THQ now has five projects left for the fiscal year: Darksiders 2, WWE 13, Metro: Last Light, South Park and Company of Heroes 2.

As part of today's year-end financials, THQ announced that the Saints Row franchise has shipped 11 million units globally. Speaking specifically to the latest installment, Saints Row: The Third, the company revealed it has shipped over 4.25 million units and that "the game has generated the highest digital revenue of any console title in the company's history."That's not the conclusion of Saints Row for the year. Saints Row: The Third: Enter The Dominatrix is expected to launch this September. The game is a standalone product that does not require the third installment to play and started life as an April Fool's gag.

  • Saints Row: The Third gets 'freaking super powers' this fall in 'Enter the Dominatrix' expansion

In what is now becoming an annual tradition, one April Fools' joke is turning into a real-life thing. This time it's Saints Row: The Third's "Enter the Dominatrix" expansion. According to THQ, the new standalone content, taking place after the events of Saint's Row: The Third, will add "freaking super powers" for the price of $30.Enter the Dominatrix arrives this fall, and it'll bring a whole new angle to the world of the Saints: "alien warlord Zinyak and his malevolent race" are apparently trying to grab up all the Earth's resources and/or women. It sounds like those freaking super powers will come in handy, eh? The dubious character seen above – named "Paul," innocuously enough – will also play some role, which remains to be seen. THQ says we'll hear more about Enter the Dominatrix this summer, so keep an ear flap on your gimp mask unzipped for now.Update: THQ confirmed to us that Enter the Dominatrix is a standalone expansion and Season Pass owners will have to pay $30 like everyone else.Update 2: To be extra extra clear, THQ explained to us that Enter the Dominatrix is a standalone "boxed retail product" that can be played without owning the original Saints Row: The Third disc. It will be available solely at retail (on disc) at launch this fall.

Normally it's not recommended to go through life wearing the clothing and accoutrements of rival gangs, so it's a fantastic thing that Saints Row: The Third isn't even close to real life. Heck, they'll even make you pay for the privilege. The "Steelport Gangs Pack" is available now for $3.

  • THQ earnings forecast improves due to Saints Row 3 sales, DLC

Are you ready for this? It's ... good news about THQ's finances. The company is revising its earnings forecast for the quarter ending March 31, now reporting expectations of "non-GAAP net sales of $160 million to $170 million, which is above the company's previous outlook of non-GAAP net sales in the range of $130 million to $150 million." Non-GAAP earnings include "adjustments" or other non-recurring costs that aren't included in the standardized GAAP numbers companies are required to report.Unfortunately, there's still some less-than-stellar news: The report will also have to account for "approximately $30 million to $50 million" in non-cash software development charges, "resulting from decisions made related to the company's previously-announced product strategy." A THQ representative tells Joystiq that these kinds of "charges" actually reflect a shift in expected performance of certain software – including the no-longer MMO Warhammer 40K Dark Millennium. As for why the company is doing less poorly than expected, THQ cites three factors: Saints Row the Third, of which THQ has now shipped over four million units; "higher-than-expected digital sales" ... mostly of Saints Row DLC; and "slightly" better sales of UFC Undisputed 3 than predicted.

It was a fairly lively April Fools' Day this year -- not only did we manage to make it all day without being duped, deceived or disillusioned, but at times we were genuinely entertained by what the technology and gaming companies of the world were able to dream up.On the other hand, the stuff invented for April Fools' Day is often times way, way cooler than the products that actually get made, which is sort of depressing when you stop and think about it. It's like the news cycle on April Fools' Day is glimpse into a world where magic is still alive in the hearts and minds of millions. Sigh.Anyway, we've taken the liberty of compiling the gags and goofs we haven't already posted about into this specific chunk of Internet, so head on past the break for a look at realities better than our own.
