Turtle Rock Studios' four-versus-one multiplayer shooter Evolve will receive a number of add-ons following the game's launch in February. For $25, the game's Hunting Season Pass will introduce four new playable hunters this spring, one for each class in the game. Each hunter will also be available for purchase for $7.49 each. Season pass holders will also get exclusive access to three monster skins at Evolve's launch: Magma Goliath, Magma Kraken and Magma Wraith. Turtle Rock Studios also revealed the Behemoth, a fourth playable "tank of a monster" that transforms into a rolling boulder, available this spring for $15. The Behemoth will also be part of the Monster Expansion Pack, a bonus for those that pre-order or pre-purchase Evolve. That expansion pack itself features a free Savage Goliath skin at the game's launch. Additionally, the developer revealed two special edition versions of the game today, each available for pre-purchase. Evolve's Digital Deluxe Edition features the monster-slaying game, its season pass and the Monster Expansion Pack for $80, available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. PC players get a special collector's edition to themselves as well: Evolve's $100 PC Monster Race Edition features the same goodies as the Digital Deluxe Edition as well as a fifth monster, two hunters and four monster skins that will be exclusive to PC Monster Race Edition players for 30 days. Evolve will launch on February 10 and is available to pre-download starting today on Xbox One. While you can find a new trailer for the game to showcase the Behemoth after the break, stay tuned to Joystiq Streams at 4:00 p.m. ET today for a livestream of Evolve in action. [Image: 2K Games]

  • Final Fantasy XIV announces special Game of the Year edition

If you've been longing to try out Final Fantasy XIV but wanted a new boxed edition of the game, you're in luck. Square-Enix has announced today that a limited edition boxed version will be available starting November 14th. Dubbed the Game of the Year Edition, it comes in a special collector's box resembling the in-game Book of Diamonds weapon, albeit most likely without the glow effects. The box contains the game with all patches loaded (including 2.4, which is scheduled for later this month), a 60-day time card, and five art cards. If you already have the game, it's unlikely that you'll need another edition, but it can make for a fine gift for friends or family who haven't yet tried the game. The edition will only be available for the PC, though, so console players are out of luck, unless you just want the box and the time card.

  • Rumor: Wal-mart flier features Smash Bros. 3DS XL

Americans might not have to glare jealously across the Atlantic when Nintendo of Europe releases a special 3DS XL bundle alongside Super Smash Bros.: A supposed scan of a Wal-Mart flier has been posted to NeoGAF (not shown above, click through to see), which features Europe's red Smash 3DS XL beside a blue counterpart. With no mention of an included Smash download like the European bundle, the flier prices both red and blue versions at $199.96 and features a "Get it First!" logo that dates the hardware for September 19. If you're particular about your special edition handhelds, the Japanese Smash 3DS XL swaps the series' name for a larger, lighter Smash Ball logo. Regardless of your 3DS XL preference, even if the special edition reaches the States, you'd still need to decide whether you're holding off for the new, Xenoblade-compatible 3DS and 3DS XL models. The special collector's edition of WWE 2K15 costs $100 and is exclusive to the game's PS4 and Xbox One versions, 2K Sports announced today. In addition to a copy of the latest wrestling game from Yuke's and Visual Concepts, the Hulkamania Edition features pre-order-exclusive Hulk Hogan and Hollywood Hulk Hogan playable characters for the game plus the two bonus versions of WCW star Sting, another pre-order extra for WWE 2K15. WWE 2K15's Hulkamania Edition also features tangible goodies only found in the collector's box (and on eBay shortly after launch for what will surely be ludicrous prices). Hulkamaniacs will receive a collectible art card personally signed by the Hulkster himself as well as a piece of the ring canvas Hogan strutted on in his Monday Night Raw appearance on March 10, 2014 in Memphis, Tennessee. Lastly, the special edition will include a vinyl figure of Hogan's "Hollywood" gimmick made by Funko.

Last week we learned about Destiny's pricing for its three special editions, and now we're allowed to see inside each of these packages. The website has posted pre-order pages for each special edition with interactive elements that allow you to investigate all of the goodies and bonuses that come with each. The Ghost Edition is the most expensive at $149.99 but offers plenty of feelies for your money, including a Ghost replica with sounds and lights, an exclusive ship skin, an exclusive emblem, and postcards (hey, some of us are postcard junkies, OK?). The Limited Edition ($99.99) includes most of the same items save the Ghost replica. The Digital Guardian Edition ($89.99) lacks the physical goods of the other two but does include the game, early access, the ship skin, and the in-game emblem. All three special editions are packaged with the expansion pass that unlocks the first two DLC packs when they are released.

It's open war across the cosmos, and your wallets look to be the first casualty in Destiny's interplanetary conflict. Bungie announced today that it will be pre-selling two DLC packs and revealed the contents of its special editions. The studio also said that the PlayStation beta will start on July 17th, with the Xbox beta kicking off a week later on July 23rd. Despite the name, the Destiny Expansion Pass isn't for full-fledged expansions but for the first couple of post-launch content additions. The first pack, The Dark Below, will explore an ancient tomb underneath the Moon's surface. Bungie is promising exclusive PlayStation content for both expansion packs. Players can buy the expansion pass for $34.99 or individual packs for $19.99 apiece. Alternatively, thrifty Destiny fans can pick up one of the special editions that come with the two DLC packs included. These packages include the Digital Guardian Edition ($89.99), the Limited Edition ($99.99), and the Ghost Edition ($149.99). While the editions each contain a different mix of goodies, by pre-ordering any of them players will have early access to weapons, gear, and emblems. Bungie also released the official beta trailer, which you can watch after the break.

Destiny's Limited Edition is packaged in a SteelBook case and includes a collectible Folio and a batch of bonus in-game content. The Ghost Edition additionally includes a Letter of Introduction, a physical collection of Golden Age Relics, and a light-up, motion-activated Ghost statue featuring voice recordings from actor Peter Dinklage. • The Mog Log Extra: Unboxing the Final Fantasy XIV collector's editions

    by
    Eliot Lefebvre

    08.25.2013

I barely ever buy the collector's edition of any game. That's not to say I don't like the idea, but it's hard to justify the increased cost for the same game, especially when the included bonuses aren't all that good in the first place (I don't know who decided that collector boxes should come with statues that add $100 onto the box price, but I don't like that person). The original Final Fantasy XIV collector's edition, however, was one of the games on which I spent the extra money. Not just for the heck of it, but because of early access, which was tied to the special edition back in the day. So when Square-Enix sent us a review copy of the new collector's edition, I knew that there was only one thing to be done: I needed to offer an unboxing review of this new edition.

  • Mire yourself in inescapable debt, get $1 million Saints Row 4 special edition

There aren't many ways to absolutely guarantee headlines nowadays, but Deep Silver is employing one sure-fire method: Offer a special edition of Saints Row 4 at GAME for $1 million. Named "The Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition" or "The Million Dollar Pack," it includes a number of luxurious bonuses totally unrelated to the game, such as a Virgin Galactic space flight, plastic surgery, a seven-night stay at the top royal suite at the Burj-Al-Arab in Dubai, a "hostage rescue experience," a Toyota Prius and a Lamborghini Gallardo. Oh, and the lone buyer receives a copy of Saints Row 4's Commander in Chief Edition. At the risk of breaking standard writing conventions, we need to stress its price in all-caps: 1 MILLION DOLLARS. We're opting to believe that this is only a joke, at least until someone buys it.
