  • Rock Band Stage Kit won't smoke and strobe with The Beatles

We get the feeling that few Rock Band Stage Kits were sold to begin with, but those who proudly plunked down a Benjamin on this when it originally shipped were probably stoked to use it with The Beatles: Rock Band. Unfortunately for "those people," such a scenario won't ever be possible... at least, not without some serious DIY tinkering on the user end. Harmonix has confirmed to our pals over at Joystiq that a compatibility patch won't ever be produced for the newest RB title, and when pressed about compatibility with future titles, the rep simply stated that the company "hasn't announced any future titles at this time." Looks like this party's over, folks.

GameStop leaked the existence of the $100 Rock Band Stage Kit back in January, and it's updated the listing with the first pictures we've seen of the included smoke machine and strobe light. The smoke machine looks fairly ordinary, but the light features controls so Rock Band vocalists can apparently blind themselves while making selections. The kit's listed with a ship date of August 15, but who knows if that's accurate -- and considering you can pick up a real fogger and strobe light sufficient to glam out your living room for all of $50, we're not exactly waiting on pins and needles.[Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]

Darkseide just been tipped us off that rather large pre-order boxes of the ever famous (and ridiculously overpriced) Rock Band Stage Kit have been popping up in various game stores the world over. The pics, which can be viewed in their own gallery below, not only further prove that the Stage Kit will add light and smoke effects to your Rock Band fun, but we now have an actual image of what the device will look like. And, to us, it looks like a hybrid between a police spot light and the robot from WALL•E. But that's just us. Take a look over the $99 Rock Band peripheral, weigh the pros and cons and imagine how much cooler your Rock Band sessions would be with a plume of smoke rising from the floor.%Gallery-15374%[Thanks, Darkseide]

Ever play Rock Band and think to yourself, "self, wouldn't Rock Band be so much more enjoyable if I were to experience the lights and smoke of a real concert?" No? Well, us either, but Harmonix did and that's why they're releasing the Rock Band Stage Kit later this June. The folks over at Gamestop posted a picture (since removed) and pre-order listing (still up) for the Rock Band Stage Kit which promises an "interactive light and smoke stage show" to rock out to. The Stage Kit has a pre-order release date for June 23rd and will command a premium (deep breath) $99 price tag. Ouch! Will gamers flock to a $99 Rock Band smoke machine and disco ball? Possibly. Although, personally, we'd have to see this Stage Kit in action first. One thing we can say is that our Rock Band parties we hold every Friday night would be much more enjoyable with a strobe or two and some random smoke. Just saying.[Via Joystiq]

We're not exactly sure how to react to the recent announcement of the Rock Band Stage Kit, a peripheral for the already peripheral-heavy rhythm game. It's meant to enhance your experience with a (supposedly) fully synchronized light and smoke stage show -- we imagine the only thing it will truly enhance is your sense of regret, which will sink in when you realize that you'll never see that $99.99 ever again. At the same time, the idea of complete immersion into one of our favorite games of last year excites us to no end -- we only hope they release themed stage kits shortly after the first kit tanks. Perhaps a Flaming Lips kit, complete with costumed fly dancers and two-hundred pounds of confetti? Or, better yet, a GWAR kit, stuffed full of giant rubber wangs and Hitler masks. Can peripherals get an AO rating?
