    Lenovo’s ‘Jedi Challenges’ will let you do battle in AR as Kylo Ren

    Lenovo has announced a Dark Side Expansion for its Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR game, a free update that will let players battle Yoda, Rey and others as Kylo Ren. Along with added gameplay features, Lenovo is releasing a limited-edition Lightsaber Controller, just like the one Kylo Ren uses in the films, that glows while users are playing.

    Last November, Disney and Lenovo partnered up to release Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, an augmented reality experience that combines video games with a lightweight AR headset and a matching lightsaber. With the headset on, you can play Holochess, command field troops on Hoth and, of course, have duels with bad guys like Kylo Ren. Today, Disney is releasing yet another update to the game with a hotly requested feature: local multiplayer, so you can duel your friends in the same room.

    When Disney and Lenovo teamed up to create Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, it was a significant step in bringing augmented reality (AR) gaming to the masses. The headset was modestly-priced, and the game, a Star Wars-themed version of chess, was accessible to everyone. Now, in a bid to push the technology – and the movie franchise – further still, Disney is now leveraging ARKit to bring the game to iOS 11 devices.
