Crackdown 3's signature Wrecking Zone mode should now be decidedly livelier. After a brief round of testing, Sumo and Microsoft have released an update that adds Squad support to the destroy-everything multiplayer feature. If you have Crackdown-loving friends, you can partner up with them instead of having to fly solo.

Just because you're playing Crackdown 3 doesn't mean you've played its predecessor -- in fact, that's not too likely when the second game launched nearly nine years ago. The developers want to plug that hole in your gaming history. In addition to teasing some updates to the current game (more on those in a moment), they've revealed that Crackdown 2 is now free as an Xbox One backwards compatibility title. It's not the revelation that the first game was, but it will show you how the series evolved before its big hiatus.

  • LittleBigPlanet 3 finds Frozen DLC, refuses to Let It Go

Having conquered movies, music and the minds of children everywhere, characters from Disney's animated mega-hit Frozen now join Captain America and Pixar's Toy Story cast among the wide range of licensed costume options found in LittleBigPlanet 3. Included in the DLC are costumes for all four of the game's heroes based on Frozen's fan-favorite characters such as Kristoff, Anna and Elsa. Each costume is available from the PlayStation Network at a price of $2, though you can also buy all of them at once for $6. Doing so will grant you a bonus costume based on Frozen's comedy relief snowman, Olaf. Of course, Frozen's characters would be totally lost without the ice and snow that serves as their film's setting and key theme, so LittleBigPlanet 3 is also receiving the Winter Creator Kit, a free DLC pack filled with new, winter-themed decorations for the prospective level builder. Now, the next time somebody asks you to build a snowman, you can be prepared. [Image: Sony]

Playground Games has issued a clarifying statement revealing that the Xbox 360 version of its open-world racer Forza Horizon 2 will not share any of the DLC planned for the game's Xbox One release. The announcement follows up on this week's launch of the Mobil 1 Car Pack, the first of several planned add-ons for the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2. The Xbox 360 edition, developed by Sumo Digital, will also lack support for the Forza Rewards program. "We are currently planning to release DLC only for the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2," Forza Community Manager Brian Ekberg explained. "Also, Forza Rewards benefits are only available in the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2. This means that Xbox 360 players will not receive Forza Rewards credits or cars." Ekberg continued: "Progress in the 360 version of Forza Horizon 2 does not count towards your Forza Rewards Tier Level score. Only progress in the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2 will count towards your overall Forza Score (and Tier Level) in Forza Rewards." [Image: Microsoft]

Forza Horizon 2 is the kind of racing game that expands the idea of 'simulation' to include less material, more ambiguous parts of driving. What it feels like to zoom along the breezy coast in a lovely LaFerrari. The cringe of your beastly Nissan GT-R scraping through a tight turn in the castle town of San Giovanni. Inhaling for your Ford Raptor as it squeezes through a green gauntlet of fir trees. Oh, and what it's like being a rich generi-dude who identifies every techno song on the radio as an 'anthem.'

The demo for Forza Horizon 2 will be available for players to download on September 16. Playground Games' open-world racer will launch in full on September 30 for Xbox One, and will feature over 200 cars at launch. Microsoft also disclosed the game's achievements list, which can be found at Xbox Wire. The developer did not reveal which vehicles will be available to drive in the demo, just that the selection is limited to a "handful" of cars that have been picked to "give you a brief taste of what to expect" when the full version of the racing game rolls to retail. Forza Horizon 2 will debut without microtransactions and will feature a Kinect-enabled assistant known as "ANNA." [Image: Microsoft]

  • Forza Horizon 2 features Kinect-enabled assistant called ANNA

Road trips are a blast if you've got someone to talk to, but not everyone can just drop their life for weeks at time to attend driving festivals. You're an exception to that rule in Forza Horizon 2, but Turn 10 Studios Creative Director Ralph Fulton shared some good news with Examiner: Horizon 2 drivers will have a companion in a Kinect-supplemented AI partner called ANNA, which means the prime passenger seat real estate is open for a kickin' snack buffet. While ANNA probably won't keep your meal upright in hairpin turns, Fulton explained that she acts like a digital, navigation-savvy assistant. She'll suggest events to try, let you know when friends sign on and supply a recap when you slip back into the driver's seat. Sounds like ANNA will help you keep your eyes on the road then! When your view isn't darting between the windshield and your passenger side smorgasbord, that is. [Image: Microsoft Studios]

Forza Horizon 2 will offer players a different experience on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, Playground Games creative director Ralph Fulton confirmed with Digital Spy today. "It's based in the same world, it's based on the same themes," Fulton said. "Rather than thinking of them as the same game on different platforms, they are different games inspired by the same ideas." Microsoft previously announced that the Xbox 360 edition of Forza Horizon 2 is developed by Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing developer Sumo Digital, while the Xbox One version is backed by Playground Games, and is based on the Forza Motorsport 5 engine. Fulton additionally revealed that the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2 will employ Forza 5's Drivatar system, and will boast platform-exclusive features like 1080p resolution and a new weather system. Ryo Hazuki, leather-clad everyman and forklift-racer extraordinaire from the Shenmue series, has come racing onto the PC version of Sonic And Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. Ryo debuted in the mobile port of Transformed, but his arrival on PC marks his first appearance in the game on a home platform. Whether this means he'll also be making a pit stop on consoles, 3DS and Vita is unknown. Instead of going for a more realistic approach and placing Ryo atop his signature motorcycle or inside a forklift - as was the case in the original Sonic And Sega All-Stars Racing - Ryo gets to show his '80s heritage by piloting modified arcade cabinets. Ryo rides a Hang-On cabinet on water, an OutRun cabinet on land, and a Space Harrier cabinet in the air. He's available now for $1.59 on Steam.

Sega's manic crossover kart racer Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is free to play this weekend on Steam. If you find yourself smitten with developer Sumo Digital's love for Sega's back catalog, the full game can be unlocked for 75 percent off of its regular price at $7.49. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed rounds up Sega's mascots and other memorable characters for a series of multi-terrain races. The PC version of the game brings its own exclusive collection of characters to the track. A recent update added Company of Heroes 2 star General Winter as a playable character, joining oddball PC-exclusive roster additions from Team Fortress 2, Shogun: Total War, and Football Manager.
