  • Dojo update: Smart Bomb and Training Mode

Today's dojo update is a "2-for-1" deal, giving us insight into a new game mode and in-game item. First, the new game mode allows players to set up scenarios for training purposes. As you can see above, you control everything right down to the flow of time, allowing you to perfect your craft before stepping into the field of combat with actual opponents. Considering how long it's been since we've played a Smash Bros. game, we're probably going to need this. The new in-game item is the Smart Bomb, which can be used to destroy everyone. Upon launching the item at your opponent, it will detonate and the explosion will steadily grow. As it expands, it traps other combatants into it. But, you have to watch out, because it can also trap you in.%Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6867%Read - Training ModeRead - Smart Bomb

  • Gray Fox ninjas his way into Super Smash Bros. Brawl

When Solid Snake brings his gravelly verbosity to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it seems he won't be the only Metal Gear Solid character doing battle with Mario and Sonic. The game's official blog revealed today that the OCN (Original Cyborg Ninja) "Gray Fox" will be appearing in the game as an assist trophy. While we're disappointed he's not playable, we love the way his contribution is described on the blog, which could go down in history as the most straight-forward ninja explanation ever: "He approaches stealthily with lithe jumps, coming right in then slicing repeatedly." ... Yep, that sounds about right.

  • Build your own stages in Smash Bros. Brawl

Did you hear that sound? If we're not mistaken (and we only occasionally are), that was the sound of millions of fanboy heads exploding as they learned that Super Smash Bros. Brawl includes a level editor. It looks fairly flexible too, allowing you to place objects and choose their size, look, etc. You can even select your own music.One-upping itself once again, SSBB is going to let you share those custom maps, and your friends won't be the only ones seeing your work (though that is an option). You can also send your maps to Nintendo, who will then select one map daily to send out to all players. That's right: You'll not only have a chance at map stardom, you'll be receiving a daily infusion of new content.Be honest with us: Would a valentine to Nintendo be too creepy?[Thanks everyone who sent this in.]

So, we came, we saw, and we'll be back for more throughout Friday and the weekend, but the big question you all wanna know is ... will there be an E For All 2008? Signs point to "not very likely." Judging by some of the empty rows of gaming stations we saw, and the fact that it doesn't fill the South Hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center, it's hard to imagine this show being a giant success. In fact, since it's held in the exact same place that E3 used to be, it's impossible not to compare it to the other shows. In fact it sort of feels like E3 reborn, except that they forgot to send out invites and let people know about it. There were a few busy areas, like the Konami booth which had a line of people all day long waiting to play the MGS4 demo (which was sweet, more on that later), and the Nintendo booth had bleachers set up where people patiently waited to get their hand on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was also sweet. If by sweet you mean button-mashy, which we do.Also popular was Link's Crossbow Training, which we'll be playing tomorrow, and of course, Guitar Hero 3. We also witnessed several people pulling Peter Moore's at the Rock Band trailer, which was an extremely cool setup ... but sort of sparsely attended. Probably due to the fact that no one really wants to hear perfect strangers butchering The Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go."While there's not a ton of material out there that hasn't already hit the shelves, we did have fun playing around at the EA booth (we still love you, The Orange Box), and Civiization: Revolution is a lot of fun, which we'll be telling you more about soon. For now, the obligatory Guitar Hero III stations, the elaborate Rock Band stages, the ubiquitous cosplay shots and an overdose of Fatal1ty await you in the gallery.%Gallery-8799%

  • Punch Out's Little Mac to appear in Smash Bros. Brawl

The green gloves, the at-the-ready stance, that uppercut ... it can't be! It is! It's Little Mac, the boxer that (ocassionaly) beat Mike Tyson in Punch-Out, set to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl! The only way we could be more excited is if he was a playable character. Yeah, you read that right. Apparently, much like Rocky Balboa, the past-his-prime sweet scientist can only handle brief bouts before risking his health.OK, so maybe he's only going to be an Assist Trophy more than an actual fighter, but it's hard for us to not get a little excited (read: teary-eyed and nostalgic) about seeing Little Mac digitized for a new generation to enjoy. As it says on the official Smash Bros. blog: "Resurrecting this legend for the current generation is something we can all enjoy just a bit." We couldn't agree more.

  • Wii Warm Up: Will non-Japanese gamers see a SSBB delay? [update]

The good news about Super Smash Bros. Brawl: pretty much everything. The bad news? Looks like the title is being delayed in Japan until the end of January. So here's our question: will that delay be spread across the globe, or will it be unique to Japan? We hope it won't be delayed, of course ... unless there are things what need fixing, and then we're 100% in favor of a delay. Please, give us the best game ever. We'll wait. We'll even pretend to be patient.Update: The delay has been confirmed. Get your weep on.

  • Brawl and Galaxy at Nintendo's E For All booth

We've known for quite some time now that Nintendo would be backing E For All. Word just hit today, however, that playable versions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy will be on-hand for those in attendance. Nintendo, who wasn't showing their face at TGS07, didn't even have a playable build of Brawl on the show floor at E307. Even with the game only a few months away, it'd be nice to get a taste of the action. Perhaps even get to play as one of the new characters. Not only that, but Nintendo will host daily tournaments, hooking each day's winner up with an exclusive Wii T-shirt.Head past the break for all of the Wii games on-hand at the show.

We had told you previously about The Subspace Emissary, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl new single-player adventure, a recipient of the 2007 "Game Mode that Sounds Most Like A David Bowie Album Title" award. Now, it seems that subspace is not quite as lonely as we thought, as the game's official blog has revealed that The Subspace Emissary will feature co-op play. It's structured for one player to be lead and for another to be his wingman, his Goose, if you will. The Don Quixote of the duo will lead the movement, and Sancho Panza will have to stay in the boss' screen. There are a few other details about TSE there too, so if you're interested, it's well worth a read.[Thanks, Ryan]

  • See Snake, hear Hayter in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

You might have heard that actor David Hayter had confirmed his involvement in voicing Snake for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Now, GameTrailers brings us the product of that collabo with a short clip introducing Snake to the plumber, the myth, the legend that is Mario. While the battle isn't quite the "It'sa me! Mar--" <M1911A1 headshot> "...gurgle" that you'd expect in the real world, it is very silly, which we guess is what fans of the series are looking for. Also, you don't want to miss this clip of Snake wondering what it would be like to eat Yoshi, a thought we've probably all entertained at some point.

Wouldn't you have loved to have been there on Super Smash Bros. Brawl audition day?"Hi, my name is Lucas, but you may know me from Mother 3.""So, no one in America has any clue who you are, right?""Umm, yes. That is technically correct. Yeah.""Do you have any special powers?""Well, I look kind of like Dennis the Menace.""You're hired!"For our part, we're forever going to pretend that newly announced brawler Lucas from Super Smash Bros. Brawl is actually Power Glove and radical haircut sporter, Lucas Barton from The Wizard. In the biz, that's known as an upgrade.

The latest Dojo update seems to be an exercise in masochism; Diddy's wooden pea(nut) shooter is pretty cool and all, but you'd better be careful with it. Otherwise, you'll do a lot worse than shoot your eye out. Lesson: slow and steady wins the shooting race.In case you hadn't guessed, it's Diddy Kong all the way today, and the Dojo has offered up a look at his special moves, which include eating the occasional peanut from his gun. Hey, peanuts are nutritious and delicious! Also, they restore a little health, which is generally a good thing when getting your smash on. If peanut guns aren't your style, not to fret ... there's also a rocket jet pack attachment.%Gallery-6869%

Today's Dojo update is spoileriffic for those who want to discover every scrap of Adventure Mode for themselves. The official site included a video, which has been a pain to get -- it looks like everyone else in the world has been trying to watch it as well -- so we have a helpful YouTube version after the break for those who don't mind seeing Pit's introduction a little early. Time to stop watching and join the fight, Pit!

While the main arena of the new WarioWare stage may look like the standard floating-platforms-over-a-flat-space template found in pretty much every new Brawl stage, it has its own special quirks. The whole stage transforms into WarioWare microgames during play!In his post about the new stage, Masahiro Sakurai promises "rewards" for those who successfully complete the objective of each microgame. In the context of Smash Bros., we imagine that either to be a free item or damage for your opponents. The people who turn items off are going to hate this stage.%Gallery-3347%

A reader who is as excited about Super Smash Bros. Brawl as we are suggested this excellent question to get the day started: if you could see anyone in the game, any character at all, who would you want? Or are you pretty satisfied with the current roster? That's a pretty tough one ... there are a lot of characters out there. Comedic answers will earn you both bonus points and respect.[Thanks, Alexander!]

Today's Smash Bros. Dojo update is of special interest to nerds! Even more than usual, that is. The latest assist trophy has been revealed as Devil from the NES game Devil World. Devil World is most significant for being a Shigeru Miyamoto game that has never been released in the US. The only such game, according to Wikipedia. In the Pac-Man-style game, Devil points in the direction in which the maze is about to scroll. And that's exactly what he does in Smash Bros.-- he points, and the screen scrolls. Since falling off of the screen is such an important component of Smash Bros., Devil seems like quite a powerful assist! As much as we love the actual gameplay of Smash Bros., it's stuff like Devil here that keeps bringing us back. Super Smash Bros. is like a living museum of Nintendo history!%Gallery-3347%

A Ruliweb poster reports that "Large scuffle [su] every [swi] [pu] compared to Japanese date of issue of [su] X. November 22 straight road decision. In compliance with a wye pie communication possibility! before the adult!" Luckily, NeoGAFfer farnham can actually read either the Korean post or the issue of the Japanese magazine Coro Coro to which it refers, and he says that the post is about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and that there's a confirmation of online battling somewhere in all those words and stuff. And even we can read the Japanese release date of November 22. That's pretty soon! Possibly even before the adult![Via NeoGAF]

Do you love Yoshi? Do all your friends know you as "The Yoshinator" because you're always talking about how awesome Yoshi is? Is your Yoshi vs. Robocop fanfic well-regarded? Have you somehow managed not to pick up a Wii yet, even though it's the future home of the Yoshi-fied Super Smash Bros. Brawl? If so, you're probably already cracking open your Emergency Yoshi Gear Fund to bid on this custom-painted Wii. The only thing that would make this better would be the release of Kart Fighter for Virtual Console. An unofficial mod demands an unofficial game![Via Kotaku]

With an Animal Crossing feel, the stage will seem familiar to all who've spent many an hour fishing in streams, digging for fossils and attending live performances of one K. K. Slider. It's been a couple of days since we checked in with the Dojo and boy are we mad at ourselves. Not only did we miss the unveiling of a new stage in the Bridge of Eldin from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but also a new Assist Trophy in the eccentric mayor of SimCity. That's right, none other than Dr. Wright has made his way into the game and, as one might expect, his penchant for helping build incredible cities has made its way in with him.Check out the gallery below to see what we mean.%Gallery-3347%Read - Bridge of EldinRead - Standard combo breakdownRead - Dr. Wright
