'Super Mario 3D All-Stars' goes away forever on March 31st
As Super Mario's 35th anniversary comes to end, some titles will be leaving the Nintendo eShop and retailers forever.
‘Super Mario 3D All-Stars’ comes to Nintendo Switch on September 18th
Nintendo just announced Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a Switch collection of three of Mario’s most notable adventures. The package includes Super Mario 64 (the first 3D Mario game, originally released for the Nintendo 64), Super Mario Sunshine (for the Game Cube) and Super Mario Galaxy (for the Wii).
Finally, Mario Sunshine's FLUDD jet pack a reality
Just because Super Mario Sunshine is the most underwhelming game in the main Mario series (fact, not opinion), doesn't mean we don't want a water-based jet pack for our own. In fact, we'd be happy with a something-based jet pack of any sort ... unless it's a murder-based jet pack, of course. Jet Levitation is out there using good old American ingenuity (curious, for a Canadian company) to make our dreams come true with the JetLev, a pack limited by a 30-foot range and powered by a jet ski motor. In this little hobby of ours, there are undeniable classics. Only an utterly clueless fanboy will ignore Shigeru Miyamoto's contributions to gaming, and any Nintendo enthusiast can never deny the quality of a series like Halo or God of War. No matter the platform, there are games which make up the foundation of this medium as we've come to know it. Traditionally, the formula would seem to be game made by a respectable company + a few years to let it sink in = indisputable classic. Yet there are a few that still provoke debate. These are games that are neither universally adored nor hated. They almost always spark conversation, and are considered by some to be an acquired taste. Born for Wii: Mario Sunshine
Now that 2008 is tightly packed away into our memories and the glorious new year is unfolding before our very eyes, we're caught between looking backwards at what 2008 imparted upon us and anticipating what 2009 has to offer. Even though Born for Wii is all about looking backwards, it's hard not to be excited about what this year is bringing to the Wii: in just a couple months, the New Play Control version of Pikmin will be hitting the States, and it will be good times. But we've still got awhile to wait until then, and this week we're highlighting a sorely underappreciated Nintendo game of last generation: Super Mario Sunshine.Mario Sunshine was released in 2002 as the first real successor to the groundbreaking Mario 64, and it was clear from the beginning that things were going to be a little different. For starters, Mario was on vacation on a tropical island, and soon found himself equipped with a water pack for cleaning up sludge. Though it was generally well-reviewed, Mario Sunshine has since become somewhat of a whipping boy in the fan community, and many claim that it didn't live up to groundbreaking pedigree Mario 64 established years earlier. Mario Galaxy managed to exceed its predecessors in virtually every way possible, but in the end, Sunshine still has things worth going back for. Super Mario Galaxy versus Super Mario Sunshine
This video is making its way around the internets, showing some of the similarities between Super Mario Galaxy and the GameCube's Super Mario Sunshine. We really never realized how similar the two were, but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of differences as well.Where do you think Galaxy separates itself most from Sunshine? After an extra week of reviews, Super Mario Galaxy has slipped to the number two spot on GameRankings, returning a certain ocarina-wielding Hylian to his long-held number one spot.To commemorate the super-duper astroplumber's brief stint as king of all videogames, GameTrailers has whipped up a graphical comparison between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Sunshine, the last of the home console Mario games.
