After two weeks of absolutely nothing in new Wii downloads, Nintendo dropped a new Virtual Console game on us. And not just any new Virtual Console game, Super Street Fighter II ... with online play. Even after being released in Japan last November, and being announced locally by Capcom the same month, it's still surprising to see extra functionality. It's still surprising to see a Wii Virtual Console game.

Details are slim at this point, but Capcom Unity announced yesterday that the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers will be coming to Nintendo's Virtual Console ecosystem sometime in the future. No word on pricing or availability, but we do know that the port will feature online play, which, believe it or not, actually existed in the original release in the form of XBAND compatibility. If you're not old enough to remember XBAND, you're probably not old enough to be excited about one of the many variants of Street Fighter 2 being re-released. If you are old enough to remember XBAND, we hope you can find time between refinancing your mortgage and picking the kids up from band practice to go a few rounds.

Capcom's talking about HD remixing some more titles following the success of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Capcom VP Christian Svensson tells VideoGamer that not every game needs it, but the company is going to "potentially" apply the formula to other fighting games in the company's catalog. Next time, however, it plans do it "better, based on what [it] learned" -- which we'll take to mean cutting down development time. When asked if Marvel vs. Capcom 2 would be HD-ified, Svensson commented that it's probably the title fans request the most, but he has no news to share about that. We know retro Mega Man is en vogue, but an HD remix of Mega Man 2 could be interesting.%Gallery-9066%

Now, now, before you guys get all up in arms about any possible changes that are coming to the HD remake of Super Street Fighter II Turbo, hear us out. Apparently, Capcom will be applying changes to each of your favorite characters in hopes of rebalancing the gameplay. Just be aware these desecrations rebalances are optional and you can feel free to switch back to original mode if you don't like them. Looking at the list, Ryu has one change: a fake Hadoken has been added to his arsenal. Other characters have over ten changes -- all of them are after the jump. Lastly, if you are having trouble comprehending the list, you are probably not hardcore enough to care what these changes are anyway.

Because that's what you're getting, guys and gals. This week's sole addition to the PAL Virtual Console is Capcom scrapper Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, the third Street Fighter II spin-off to hit the Euro and Aussie VC.It also happens to be the game that introduced Cammy to the world, and with her a whole new chapter of ill-advised cosplay. Wow, it's times like this we're glad we don't have to pick a featured game for Virtual Console release section. Which would we choose? A mediocre puzzle game starring a little fuzz ball, or the fighting game voted Most Likely To Depict a Green Monster Puking for like 20 years running? Decisions, decisions.Super Street Fighter II (Super NES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Back in the day, when new Street Fighters were being released more frequently than Friday the 13th movies, it was hard for us to keep all of them straight. These days, we likely couldn't tell Noob Saibot from Akuma. So, as a refresher, this is the one with Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Blanka, E. Honda, Zangief, Dhalsim, Balrog, Vega, Sagat, M. Bison, T. Hawk, Deejay, Fei Long and Cammy. Now, as to what all those words mean, well, we trust you can find the way to the Wikipedia section of the internet.Adventures of Lolo 2 (NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): We're sorry about earlier when we called Lolo 2 mediocre. We feel bad about it. We just don't understand what kind of person got the first Lolo and was left clawing their skin for more. But hey, if that was you, far be it from us to stand in the way of your happiness. You fly that flag, homes. You fly it.

As you've probably surmised from the hypnotic image already changing your life, more Cho Aniki is now available on the Japanese Virtual Console. Ai Cho Aniki is when the series really took off, when original, non-awesome protagonists Idaten and Benten took off and allowed the muscular Adon and Samson to take center stage. Significantly less mantastic are this week's other games: Metal Slader Glory, a text adventure from HAL, Party Quiz Mega Q, which is ... you know, a quiz game, and another Street Fighter II game. Guess which of those three we'll get first? Hint: it's the one you've already had two chances to buy on the VC. Metal Slader Glory (Famicom, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (Super Famicom, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Party Quiz Mega Q (Mega Drive, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points) Ai Cho Aniki (PC Engine Super CD-ROM, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
