This morning a not so new Surf's Up demo was released onto the XBLM for our European, Australian and New Zealand friends allowing them to experience what hardcore penguin surfing is all about. The demo is roughly 668MBs of pure surfing madness and if you think you're experiencing a mild case of deja-vu, you're not. You see, this demo was released way back in June to North American Xbox Live members and took around two months for Ubisoft to make it fit for our European and Australian fanboys. You know, because the demo had to be ... uhh, localized ... yeah, that's it! It took two additional months to release a demo for a kids game to the rest of the world because it had to be localized. (Ubisoft's marketing team so owes us.)

Today's demo fun features surfing, penguins, and an occasional belly laugh. That's right, the Surf's Up demo hit the XBLM this morning and is the official game of the movie by the same name. We have yet to get our mitts on this surfing adventure, but we hear Matthew McConaughey gives it a thumbs up. Even though he'd give a thumbs up to anything that involves surfing, but we digress. Anyway, it's available for download in the US, Canada, and Mexico and (cross your fingers) should be better than that green ogre's pitiful game ... yeh, we called you out Shrek.

There's a short and sweet trailer from Ubisoft for Surf's Up available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace. It shows off the gameplay, which while for kids, has been found to be very entertaining by a couple of adult gamers. Weighing in at a quick 32 MB, it's around 45 seconds long. The music playing is Dan's Home Grown's "Give it up", which we found to be rather catchy. There was a weird audio glitch with our download, though: at the end, when the "Jump In" and spinning Xbox 360 sphere comes around, it cuts to black afterwards and plays a split second of the "shwah" effect of the sphere again. Oops. Does this happen for you too?

  • PA: Surf's Up not just for kids.

Major Nelson has raved about it, and now the PA crew gave it a shot and enjoy it. Surf's Up, the film-to-game adaption is actually enjoyable for adults as much as kids. Perhaps the source material actually adds to the game, the straightforward Achievements, or maybe it's the almost non existent learning curve that has pick up and play accessibility. The one thing we can learn from Gabe, though, is that just because you can have fun playing "kids games", we wouldn't recommend trying to find other kids to play with.

It's a pretty big week for the Xbox 360. This week we see the release of two of Microsoft's major releases for the summer, Shadowrun and Forza Motorsport 2. Not only that, but also get Monster Madness and Surf's Up. You know, on second thought, maybe we should just stick to the first two. Honestly, the big question for 360 gamers this week is whether the choose Forza or Shadowrun. Given that these are two different games that appeal to two different kinds of gamers, it's not likely to be a tough choice though. So, do you plan on picking up any of these games?%Gallery-3497%

  • Surf's Up had better use the Wiimote as a surfboard

We just wanted to get that in there nice and early, because it's important. You can infer from the rather pointed headline that a game based on the upcoming CG kids' movie Surf's Up has been announced for the Wii.Ubisoft will be bringing the videogame version of Sony Pictures' Surf's Up to pretty much every system we can think of, which is pretty much standard operating procedure. The game will feature voice acting from many of the movie's stars, including Shia LeBoeuf, Jeff Bridges, and Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies movie. There are two reasons that we think Surf's Up could turn out okay: first, it's being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, who are responsible for the Prince of Persia series; and second, surfing seems like a natural for the Wiimote. At least, we hope it's good, because we're certain lots of kids are going to want it.[Via NeoGAF]

  • Surfing penguins on their way

Penguins are as popular as sugar substitutes lately and so it's no surprise that Sony Pictures is making a penguin movie called Surf's Up. It's also no surprise that a game based on the movie is being created. Especially since screens and info on the game were part of the leaked Ubisoft files from last year. Ubisoft seems to be doing a lot of licensed games lately, we'll have to see how this week's TMNT turns out to garner an opinion on whether they're interested in making them more than just cash-ins.
