Mouldy Toof Studios' prison-breaking game The Escapists will launch on Xbox One on February 13, the developer announced today. Additionally, the game will launch in full on Steam on that day after nearly six months on Early Access. In it, players plot an extravagant prison escape while abiding by the prison's schedule, crafting weapons and tools while not raising suspicion from guards. The Escapists' full version will feature six unique prisons and six different methods to escape from them, such as digging your way out or taking over the whole facility. The game also includes ten prison jobs that players can perform in order to learn useful skills relevant to their escape strategies. The game is currently $15 on Steam Early Access. Sheltered, described as a post-apocalyptic strategy game, will be published by Team17, the developer best (only?) known for the Worms franchise. The publishing deal is part of Team17's expanding third-party publishing program, which is interesting given Team17's own publishing history. Sheltered's Kickstarter campaign will conclude in four days, having gathered (as of this writing) £19,413 of a £15,000 goal. Developed by UK-based Unicube, Sheltered is about a "nuclear family" surviving after the world is consumed in fire. It's a feel-good game. If feeling good involves claustrophobia, radiation and choices of moral ambiguity.

Worms developer Team 17 is trying its hand at a new IP, even if it's borrowing some victims from an old one. Flockers is the studio's sheep-ish twist on puzzling classic Lemmings, and it's out now on Steam Early Access. Like in Lemmings, your job is to guide your animal minions to safety through a 2D level of obstacles and traps. You've got a variety of tools to help you get through each of the 25 Early Access levels, including turning your fluffy flock into jumping, flying and exploding solution-makers. Unlike Lemmings, Flockers takes places in a grisly steampunk factory, complete with axe blades, spiked wheels, and the profusion of blood those things provide. If you fancy saving the Flockers from some mutton-mashing, Team 17's offering the Early Access version at the discounted price of $15 in the US, and £12/14 euros over the ocean. The UK dev plans to pump more levels into the game before the final release, and add "physics object" creation to the level editor, which is already available. [Image: Team 17]

Worms studio Team17 published the first screens and details on new IP Flockers today, which the UK dev described as a "twisted blend of Lemmings' inspired gameplay and Tim Burton style macabre, all topped off with a dose of that classic Worms humor." "Held for years within the evil thrall of the Worms, the sheep are finally making a dash for freedom," reads a YouTube description. "Escaping the tyrannical Worms, the flock must dodge their way past all manner of lethal machinery and traps as they negotiate their path through the confinement of the Worms weapons factory and onwards to pastures green." There's a definite steampunk vibe to the screens and plenty of sheep - including some in purple beanies for some reason - to save from gruesome, bloody demises. We'll all get to meet the Flockers when the game hits Steam Early Access in Q2 2014. [Image: Team17]

Worms developer Team17 revealed at the PlayStation Open Day in Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, Englandthat that a new intellectual property named Flockers is in the works. The developer is expected to officially reveal the game next week, according to Develop. "This is the most important game we've worked on in over a decade," Team17 Managing Director Debbie Bestwick said, perhaps alluding to the fact that Flockers will be the first new IP for the developer in more than ten years. Team17 is best known for its long-running Worms series, which will see the addition of Worms: Battlegrounds this year on PS4 and Xbox One. Team17 is also in the process of positioning itself as a publisher for the first time in nearly two decades, as it will fund the development of Just a Pixel's stealthy PC game Light and prison breakout sim The Escapists. Team 17 announced it's bringing its warfaring invertebrates to Xbox One and PS4 in a new game called Worms Battlegrounds. According to the British studio, Battlegrounds will be one of the first games in Microsoft's ID@Xbox self-publishing program, which is expected to make its debut close to March. The game's official release window is 2014. Team 17 offered little to no info about the game itself in today's announcement, but we expect to learn more soon, given the imminence of ID@Xbox. Like a steeply launched homing missile, one thing that remains up in the air is a possible PC release; the game appeared on Steam's databases in November 2013. [Image: Team 17]

    02.10.2014

Stealthy puzzler Nutjitsu is in the opening batch of ID@Xbox games, according to Microsoft corporate VP Phil Spencer. Developed by A Kingdom for Keflings studio Ninjabee, Nutjitsu is a top-down affair in which you guide an adorable ninja squirrel through mazes guarded by equally cute samurai foxes. Ninjabee released it on Windows Phone 8 last year, and if Spencer's tweet is accurate, it's sneaking onto Xbox One shortly. Spencer also name-dropped a Worms game as one of the "first shipping" through the self-publishing ID@Xbox program. Worms dev Team 17 and Ninjabee are both confirmed as participating ID@Xbox developers, and Ninjabee's already said it's bringing Nutjitsu to a new platform for the studio, so the nuts stack up on this one. We've reached out to Team 17 for more details on the Worms game. Last we heard, ID@Xbox's debut was set for Q1 2014, and closer to March 2014 according to program director Chris Charla. Update: Team 17 announced its ID@Xbox game as Worms Battlegrounds, and it's also coming to PlayStation 4. Its due on both systems sometime this year. [Image: Ninjabee]

  • Worms Revolution Extreme bombards PS Vita on October 8

Come October 8, Team 17's heavily-armed annelids will be making the leap to Sony's Vita handheld in Worms Revolution Extreme. Like its predecessors, Worms Revolution Extreme focuses on teams of worms attempting to kill each other in ludicrously over the top, turn-based fashion. The new Vita game offers players 72 single player stages which the PlayStation.blog describes as a "mixture of missions and puzzles." Online multiplayer is also included for one to four players, and includes Deathmatch, Classic and Forts game modes, alongside all the options menus necessary to create your own, customized multiplayer game type. New to the series is the Treasure Mode which allows players to unlock special items by trading data between Worms Revolution Extreme and the PlayStation 3's Worms Revolution. Game saves will also carry across these two versions, though that utility only goes so far given that the PlayStation 3 game has far less singleplayer content than its handheld counterpart. When Worms Revolution Extreme makes its Vita debut on October 8 it will feature a $15 price tag, and be available for download from the PlayStation Network Store.

Worms Revolution Extreme was announced for Vita today, and will launch on PSN in Q3 2013. Worms Revolution Extreme will also feature local and online multiplayer play for up to four players with Classic, Deathmatch and Forts modes. Lastly, the game will get a cross-gifting feature called Treasure Mode, which allows players to unlock up to ten "special gifts" by linking their Vitas to their PS3s. How Treasure Mode exactly works wasn't stated, though it's likely through the related PS3 game, Worms Revolution. %Gallery-194089%

Those crazy invertebrates at Team 17 - the characters, not the staff - continue their assault on 2013 with the announcement of Worms 3 for mobiles. Hot on the tail-end of the Worms: Clan Wars reveal, the UK studio announced mobile exclusive Worms 3, bombarding iPhones and iPads in Q3. Worms 3 features online asynchronous multiplayer - meaning you can take your turn at your leisure - as well as local pass-and-play scuffles. The game introduces a new class system too, featuring Soldier, Scout, Scientist, and Heavy varieties, but how heavy can a worm get? And of course there are new weapons and their new names to enjoy - watch out for the impending likes of Nora's Virus and Canned Heat. %Gallery-193591%

Team 17 is bringing retro run-and-gun to PS3 and Vita with a PSN re-release of Alien Breed in early February. The British developer, better known for putting armaments in the (supposed) hands of invertebrates, first released this top-down shooter on the good old Amiga in 1991, the game inspired heavily by a certain big screen franchise. The PSN re-release features cross-platform multiplayer between Vita and PS3, as well as ad-hoc/local and online co-op on respective platforms. New packs Convergence, Valiance, and Synergy bring up the total level count to 30, there's the option to play with original or enhanced visuals, and leaderboards are there for those who are competitive when it comes to extraterrestrial carnage.Team 17 resurrected the Alien Breed franchise after over a decade with the downloadable isometric shooter Evolution in 2009, and that was soon followed by two sequel episodes. The original Alien Breed then came to iOS in August 2012, and Team 17 is now telling fans to "watch this space" for an announcement of an Android release. %Gallery-175887%

Developer Team 17 revealed the news on the EU PlayStation Blog, noting that Worms Revolution will launch on October 10 for £9.99/€12.99. For those who haven't been following the game, Worms Revolution is built with a brand new engine and adds dynamic water and different worm classes to the traditional Worms formula.Unsurprisingly, the post doesn't mention the release date for the PC or Xbox Live Arcade version – or the North American PSN release date, for that matter – though they will presumably arrive on or near the same date.
