The next Star Wars film won't hit theaters until December 15th, but there's a new trailer that just aired during Monday Night Football. Star Wars: The Last Jedi brings Luke Skywalker back into the story -- along with the final appearance of Carrie Fisher as Leia -- and should answer some of the questions that have been eating at us ever since the credits rolled on The Force Awakens two years ago. If you're trying to come into this flick clean but just can't resist taking a peek at the trailer, don't worry -- director Rian Johnson feels your pain. Tickets are already on sale from a number of providers (IMAX, Fandango, Cinemark, AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, Atom Tickets, MovieTickets.com), but check below for the trailer in case you need a little more convincing. Oh, and if you just need more time in the universe, don't forget that EA just announced an extension to the Star Wars Battlefront II open beta. Update (11/1): Tonight during Game 7 of the World Series Disney/Lucasfilm released another, shorter, trailer, and while some of the earlier shots are repeated, we did spot some new bits in there. You can watch it below.

  • Meet R2-D2 and BB-9E, Sphero’s new ‘Star Wars’ toys

It's been nearly two years since Sphero introduced its app-controlled BB-8, a replica of the cute rolling droid that first appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That toy quickly became one of the most coveted by fans of Disney's franchise, and it wasn't long before the company followed it up with a Battle-Worn Edition, designed to look as rugged as the character does in film. And today at IFA 2017, Sphero announced it is expanding its connected-toy universe with two more Star Wars droids, R2-D2 and BB-9E. Naturally, Sphero worked closely alongside Lucasfilm to bring these to life, just as it did with BB-8. The idea, as you might expect, is to make them as close to the real thing as possible.

Luckily for George Lucas, Fox didn't give a hoot about toy licensing for the original Star Wars, but Disney sure as hell does. To make sure its September 1st Star Wars: The Last Jedi Force Friday II toy launch event is a success, it has added an augmented reality component called Find the Force. You'll be able to scan new in-store physical displays that feature characters like Rey and the new "Executioner Stormtrooper," and those characters will come to life on your screen, Pokémon-style.

After offering up a quick look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi in April, Disney gave us a further taste at its D23 Expo today with a new behind the scenes reel. More than anything, it sets the mood for what looks to be a particularly dramatic film. According to director Rian Johnson, fans might find some aspects of The Last Jedi "shocking."

Spin Master's BB-8 is still cute and you can get one this year

The cute spherical BB-8 was one of the many highlights of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Spin Master's near life-size replica of him was one of our favorite things about last year's Toy Fair. Unfortunately, 2016 came and went without seeing the adorable robotic companion on the silver screen -- or this particular toy on store shelves. That looks to change later this year with the announced release of the $230 Hero Droid BB-8, just in time for the bot's appearance in the next episode of the Star Wars saga.

Holster those blasters. Turn off your lightsaber. Something important has just happened. The powers that be at Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to reveal the full name for Star Wars: Episode VIII today, which graces movie theaters on December 15th, 2017. Ready? The Last Jedi. Yep, that's it. We know little else about the movie, other than it'll feature one mister Luke Skywalker and the new generation of galactic butt-kicking heroes, Rey, Finn and Poe. Oh, and presumably the angst-ridden Kylo Ren will show up too. If you're keeping count, there's just 326 more days to wait...
