In case you didn't notice, Virgin Media is still expanding its WiFi coverage on the tube. But what if you don't live around Finsbury Park, Camden, or the other 18 stations added today? Well, Virgin is promising that an extra 28 stations will join the soon-to-be-subscription service early into 2013, so it still might be worth checking if access comes free with that new phone contract. Virgin Media has flicked the switch and coated Kings Cross and Warren Street tube stations in gloriously free WiFi. The pair will be joined tomorrow by Oxford Circus and Green Park, while Victoria and Euston will do the same on the 9th. In order to use the service, which is free during the Olympics, users need to hop onto the network and register their email address. Once the summer is over, Virgin Media customers will get preferential treatment on the network, with everyone else buying pay-as-you-go minutes so they can tweet about how long we're stuck at Edgware Road... again.

When it comes to Macintosh TV tuners, it's hard to ignore the very large cat sitting in the corner. Elgato dominates the US market, but in Europe Equinux has been a big player and they've recently crossed the ocean with a new US-compatible tuner. The TubeStick Hybrid with its "The Tube" software arrives at a distinct disadvantage. It's a small white box that you can attach to a spare USB port and use to watch channels both from over-the-air signals or connect to your cable TV. Equinux provides the software that turns the tuned data into a watch-able show on your screen. The product and its software remains at a stage I can best describe as "beta". Yes, you can watch TV with it. Yes, you can tune to both ATSC (High Def) and analog channels. But many features like integrated TV listings are not yet available for the US. You're able to import your own Extended Programming Guide listings in XMLTV format, and Equinux recommends SchedulesDirect.org. Follow the jump to read more about the Equinux Tube Stick Hybrid.

If you're ready for that precious uninterrupted cellular service while traveling under the ground on the London Underground mass transit service, your day may be coming. The Underground has announced a six-month trial starting in 2008 that will determine if it is economically and technically feasible to bring wireless service to all underground portions of the railway, which does not currently feature wireless service in the underground sections; first to get the treatment will be the trial in the Waterloo and City lines.[Via Slashgear]
