Dropping a hole-in-one at the 16th hole of the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona apparently isn't that hard. Tiger Woods famously got one back in 1997, Italian pro Francesco Molinari did the same last month and just this Wednesday, LDRIC, the club-swinging robot golfer, sank one as well.

  • Tiger Woods on how technology improved his signature shoe

Nike's endorsement of Tiger Woods, the most prominent face in golf, dates back to when he first began his professional career in 1996. Since then, shoe technology has evolved tremendously, thanks to the development of new design materials that have made footwear lighter and more comfortable. To that end, Nike has introduced the TW '15, Woods' latest signature shoe. Unlike in previous versions, though, this release brings Flyweave technology to the table, a first for golf shoes. For the uninitiated, Flyweave made its debut on basketball shoes last year, with the promise of being lightweight, flexible and stable. All of which are important for golfers, too. But just how much can the TW '15 really help get Tiger Woods back on top? After all, he hasn't won a major tournament since 2008. And, perhaps more importantly, can this $200 sneaker really help the average Joe who wants to take their golf game to the next level? To answer these questions, we spoke to Woods and Nike Senior Director of Athlete Innovation Tobie Hatfield.

  • Cut strokes off your golf game with Nike Golf 360

I have been playing golf for a long long time and in all those years I have never met another golfer who wasn't trying to find some way to improve and lower his score. Now Nike Golf 360 contains a number of aids that could do just that. The free universal app requires iOS 7.0 or later. The app offers a number of ways to improve your basic game and lower your scores. Hundreds of golf course score cards are included in the app. You can track scores and other stats for up to four golfers in each round. You will be able to choose which tees you are playing and then get the hole's par and yardage. After playing each hole Nike Golf 360 allows you to enter each golfer's score plus driving information: left, right or in the fairway, if you hit the green in regulation, and how many putts you used. At the end of the round, the app gives you a summary of what your round was like with totals on all these stats compiled in a single screen. So if you only hit 5 of 18 greens in regulation it points to a failing in ball striking. Likewise if you used 34 putts you could probably use work on your short game. This kind of information offers a much better perspective on just where your game comes up short. Now that you know what you need to work on Nike Golf 360 provides you with tips and videos on just how to improve all parts of your game: how to hit the ball further, how to get your wedge shots closer to the hole, how to get those lag putts close enough so you don't three-putt and a lot more. The app has a feature that allows you to record your own golf swing and play it back so you can see just what you look like. Most golfers have no idea what they do with their bodies during their swing. Plus the app provides video of all the Nike contract golfers: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Michelle Wie and others so you can watch these professionals and compare your swing to theirs. Additionally, the app provides information and training videos that will assist your golf fitness and flexibility. The videos show you what exercises to do, how to do them, and specifically what they are intended to do for your game. Nike Golf 360 also allows you to share your results with your friends or others. You can use Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to send pictures from your round and all the data you collected. Using this feature you can set up a competition with your friends and develop leaderboards that track which golfer hits the most fairways or uses the fewest number of putts. Nike Golf 360 provides golfers with numerous game improvement tips and aids and gives users a good starting point to becoming a better golfer. However as I have discovered through the years even with all this information to really improve your game you need to practice, practice, practice.

Zynga announced a new category of games in its catalog today, Zynga Sports 365. As indicated by the name, the "multi-game brand" covers new ground for the developer by introducing mobile sports games to its repertoire, starting with the football-themed NFL Showdown game and a golf game starring iconic golfer Tiger Woods. The development of the two games is being led by Zynga Orlando, which includes five Electronic Arts veterans: Mike Taramykin, Jason Shenkman, Jeff Luhr, Ian Cummings and Michael Cayado. Cummings previously served as creative director of EA Sports' Madden series. NFL Showdown, the beginning of a multi-year licensing deal with both the NFL and NFL Players Inc, will launch "globally before the NFL season begins." The game is currently being tested in select markets. Zynga described it as a "manager-style mobile-first simulation game" in which players act as coach, general manager and owner of their favorite NFL franchises.

Since pro golfer Tiger Woods' name and likeness are no longer attached to EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf series, he is free to explore deals with another publisher. That is exactly what Woods' agent Mark Steinberg is doing, as he is currently "in negotiations with another company regarding Woods' video game rights," ESPN reported. EA announced earlier this week that it was parting ways with Woods following a report in April that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 wasn't happening. The publisher will maintain a licensing partnership with the PGA Tour for future golf games.

EA Sports will no longer produce golf games with Tiger Woods' name attached. The publisher announced today the change was made as part of a "new approach" for the next generation to add more choice and customization. "EA Sports and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger's named PGA TOUR golf game. We've always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors," the company stated today. The company will continue to work with the PGA Tour exclusively as a brand, noting EA's partnership "remains strong." Today's official confirmation follows reports in April that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 wasn't happening. Although EA Sports stood by Woods after his scandal and losing streak, it was quite noticeable over the past few years that the company was removing the once pristine athlete from the picture. Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters had a giant yellow flag as its cover athlete.

Electronic Arts has confirmed to Joystiq that neither Tiger Woods PGA Tour, nor its take on the UFC rights it acquired last June, will be released in fiscal year '14 (concluding March 31, 2014). Although this doesn't necessarily confirm there will be no Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 as has been rumored – due to the awkward timing of the game's standard release in late March – it does confirm the game won't come out in its usual spot during the last week of March, which it has done for three years. Speaking during today's investor call, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau explicitly mentioned 11 games the company plans to launch before next March, none of which were UFC or Tiger. When asked for clarification, a representative for EA told us the games would not release in the fiscal year, though they are "still in development."

Tiger Woods PGA Tour is going to sit the next round out, according to sources speaking to Kotaku. The site has been informed by folks with knowledge of the series that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 – which was to be outsourced – isn't happening in the wake of EA CEO John Riccitiello's departure. An in-house team will work for the next two years to make Tiger Woods 16 and take advantage of next generation systems.EA responded: "We don't comment on speculation about our franchises. We have nothing to announce today about future games on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is now available on PS3 and Xbox 360."An EA Sports representative also tells us the company will be delivering patches this week to fix known issues with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14.The Tiger Woods brand has hit a rough patch these past few years. EA reaffirmed its relationship with Woods in 2010 despite the golfer's penchant for putting around. Later that same year EA did note it'd like to see the golfer winning to make their relationship worthwhile. But, here's the hard truth: As much as EA may want to move on from Tiger, um, name another golfer...

The next installment in EA's annual golf simulation, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, is expected to launch in North America on March 26; worldwide on March 28. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 will skip the Wii this year, focusing on the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms and their respective Kinect and PlayStation Move functionality – Kinect support was introduced last year, while PlayStation Move has been in PS3 installments for a few years now.Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14's flagship mode is called 'Legends of the Majors,' a gauntlet of nine pro golfers from yesteryear that players must defeat – greats including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and, of course, Tiger Woods himself – and for the first time in series history, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 brings in the LGPA and some of its most notable female golfers. Players can also chase a Grand Slam for the first time in the series, achieved through winning all four of the sport's biggest tournaments: the Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

Where's the fun in playing a Tiger Woods-infused golf game as the seasoned, acclaimed sports figure? Wouldn't you rather play as a small child? Having somehow extracted this incredible wish from your heart of hearts, EA Sports has announced a new mode for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13, which follows the legend from toddler to titan. The Tiger Legacy Challenge allows players to "relive Tiger's most memorable golf accomplishments," and revisit each era of his career. Playing through each of the ten eras will unlock unspecified bonus content. It all starts -- seriously -- with Tiger practicing in his backyard between the ages of two to six and runs into the future where Woods is chasing his 19th major. It's unclear how much of Tiger's early years will be reserved for clean up your room-themed mini-games.Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 will also feature Kinect support for the Xbox 360 and Move support on PlayStation 3, when it arrives on March 27.%Gallery-146726%

Ever since Kinect was announced, we've wondered why EA has taken its sweet time to implement the tech in its Tiger Woods PGA Tour series. Why fake-golf with a controller when you could fake-golf as the controller, right? Finally, Kinect comes to the series in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.A series of vignettes shows off some of the Kinect features, from the obvious such as miming a golf swing, to the more impressive like using voice and hand gestures to set up shot approach. Another video after the break shows Tiger fiddling with Kinect in an earlier build of the game -- turns out being amazing at golf in real life doesn't necessarily guarantee success in-game, as you can see when Tiger slices a shot into a bunker right off the green.%Gallery-146303%

EA is offering refunds to customers of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters on PC, Eurogamer reports. While the PC version released this week, shares a name with the console versions released five months ago, it's quite a bit different than on 360 and PS3. And by "different' we mean "worse." The retail PC Tiger Woods 12, is specifically lacking in graphics and features, using the browser-based Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online for its multiplayer mode. You can read more about the problem on the EA forums and Reddit which both dig deeper into the specific issues. Those experiencing a lack of satisfaction with the product are recommended to putt on over to EA Support.

Kinect is almost as popular for its hacks as it is for actually playing games, but Microsoft and its third party developers are making a hard push for motion and voice-controlled games on the Xbox 360. Popular EA Sports franchises Madden NFL, FIFA World Cup, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour will all join the motion-gaming parade. No longer will you have to punch obscure sequences of buttons to pick plays, you'll actually be able to call out running patterns to your offensive line. Plenty of others are also getting in on the shouting and arm-flailing action, including Mass Effect 3, Forza Motorsport 4, Fable: The Journey, and Ghost Recon -- in fact, we were told, "all future titles in the Tom Clancy franchise will leverage Kinect." Crytek also offered a sneak peak at Ryse, a Roman-era brawler that will have you headbutting the air to take out baddies. Looks like you'll have to start stretching before firing up your console from now on. The following games will also be coming to Xbox 360 with Kinect Support: Minecraft Disneyland Adventures Kinect Star Wars Sesame Street Once Upon a Monster Kinect Fun Labs Kinect Sports: Season 2 Dance Central 2 Update: We've got a slew of demo videos of Kinect Fun Labs after the break -- it's Kinect hacks for the masses! %Gallery-125414% %Gallery-125428%

  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 brings Masters Tournament to consoles March 29

EA's John Riccitiello recently reiterated his company's willingness to stick by Tiger Woods, and the announcement of the latest iteration of EA Sports's annual golf franchise shows that, mostly. For example, the new game still bears his name: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters. But on the cover, Woods is de-emphasized in favor of another well-known name in golf, one who is unlikely to get itself into scandalous situations: the Masters Tournament. EA used "state of the art laser scanning technology" to replicate the course at Augusta National Golf Club for the tournament's PGA Tour series debut. You'll be able to replay "Masters Moments" -- memorable events from past tournaments -- as well as the "Tiger at the Masters" mode, which allows you to play through Woods' four Masters wins by attempting to match or beat his scores from those winning tournaments. If you prefer a fictional golfer, you can play the new Career Mode and raise an amateur through the PGA ranks. Other features include a virtual caddie to dispense advice (and virtual clubs), and new playable golfers including Zach Johnson and Bubba Watson. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters will be released on PS3 (with Move support), Xbox 360, and Wii on March 29 in North America, and "worldwide" April 1. A $70 collector's edition will be released on PS3, which includes five additional courses. Update: EA Sports president Peter Moore spoke to Eurogamer about the new cover and Woods' place in the series. Find quotes after the break. %Gallery-112499%%Gallery-112501%

EA may be cool with Tiger Woods using that five wood to knock his balls into every patch of grass he can, but there's one thing it can't put up with forever: a loser. Speaking at the Reuters Global Media Summit, EA CEO John Riccitiello said that what he was expressing wasn't a "threat" against Woods, but that the company has the athlete's name on the game because of his standing in the sport. Riccitiello explained the company has no plans to drop Woods, but it's a business relationship based on the publisher and the athlete bringing their "best." He expressed, "Both of those things need to be true in the long run for the partnership to make sense." Riccitiello says the company is willing to give Woods the opportunity to turn it around "for a period of time," even as other corporations have walked off the green. The executive now keeps a standard alarm clock and a "Tiger Woods patience timer" by his bedside.

The PlayStation Move. It's funny to think just 15 months have passed since Sony first unveiled its motion controller, and now we're mere weeks away from hitting the retail market. To be sure, it's not like the company didn't have waggle on the mind already -- patents dating as far back as 2005 reveal as much, and of course the incredible success of Nintendo's Wii proved there's a market for more physically exerting gameplay. And it's not just PlayStation; Microsoft's got its controller-free Kinect motion camera system coming this November. So, in the year where all major game consoles now ask you to get off the couch and earn arm muscle, how does Move fare? Read on for more!
