It's that time of year again - the San Diego Comic Con is in full swing, and with it, news about the upcoming Warcraft movie directed by Duncan Jones. While we still have to wait for Legendary's panel on Saturday for any really juicy details, we do now have the logo for the movie (seen above) and pictures of the Doomhammer and a Stormwind-themed sword and shield set. I admit, I'm not much for movies adapting game properties, but that's one heck of a Doomhammer, and the Stormwind sword/shield set - I'd like those in game. Considering Travis Fimmel's in this thing and we know Ben Foster is playing Medivh in it, I'm hopeful we'll get to see Anduin Lothar up in this. Thanks to Craig Everson for the tip

The Warcraft movie from Legendary and Universal Pictures has received its first set of stars. Don't start riding around your epic mount in celebration just yet though, because while each of the actors Universal has closed a deal with is talented, they're not the big-name stars that generally set audience excitement meters to 'OMG Hype.' We also don't know to which characters these actors have been assigned. Legendary Pictures tweeted that the initial Warcraft cast includes Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans) and Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol). Slashfilm also reports that Universal is in final negotiations with Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger). As we previously noted, the film's plot is something of an origin story for the conflict between orcs and humans, and takes place long before the events of World of Warcraft - hence the title being just "Warcraft." We'll have to wait a bit longer than originally anticipated to see which of the above actors will be taking up arms for Horde or Alliance (or indeed if those factions will yet exist in the film's timeline), as the movie was recently pushed back from its December 2015 release date to March 11, 2016.

He's rugged, he's beardy, and now he's going to Azeroth to be a major motion picture star. Legendary Pictures has chosen actor Travis Fimmel to be a lead in its upcoming World of Warcraft movie. Fimmel is currently starring in History Channel's Vikings, where he plays rugged, beardy Ragnar. Variety says that he will fill one of four main roles in Warcraft, although his character is currently unknown. Colin Farrel and Paula Patton are also heavily rumored to take part in the film. Warcraft will be directed by Duncan Jones and written by Charles Leavitt. Production is slated to begin early next year.

Variety is reporting that Travis Fimmel, who plays Ragnar Lothbrok in the History Channel series Vikings, is set to star in the upcoming Warcraft movie. A formal offer hasn't been presented yet, but their sources say he will be playing one of the four lead roles in the film. Last month, it was reported that Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) was in negotiations for one of the lead roles. Colin Farrell has reportedly been offered a lead but it's uncertain how likely he is to sign on. The plot of the movie has been a carefully guarded secret and all we really know is there will be four lead characters. We should find out more at BlizzCon where there will be a panel dedicated to the Warcraft movie with Duncan Jones (Director), Chris Metzen, and Rob Pardo. Warcraft will hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
