We heard the YP-Q1 was brewing, and now Samsung has confirmed the new player, along with a followup to the U3 thumbDAP, the previously rumored YP-U4. The U4 borrows a few design cues from Samsung's TV lineup, but while it's certainly sexier than the previous generation, we can't help but think it looks a bit frumpy given the teensy grey OLED screen and stingy 2GB and 4GB capacities. The players boast 16 hours of playback, DNSe 2.0, and come in rose, purple and blue flavors. Meanwhile, the Q1 (pictured) seems to be frump grown up, with a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD and those purported 4, 8 and 16GB capacities. Samsung is also touting its DNSe 3.0 in the new player, which can "upconvert" audio to improve quality... supposedly. You can score one in October in black, white or silver, while the U4 (pictured after the break) should be shipping nowish.

If you've been resisting the urge to believe that Samsung's U4 was more than just a figment of someone's untamed imagination, we've got just one question for you: why? The inevitable has finally happened, with the pocket-friendly DAP getting official half a world away. The unit will boast an OLED display, touch-sensitive buttons and 2GB or 4GB of internal storage. Reportedly, these critters will be available on August 7th in the Asia-Pacific region for S$89 ($66) / S$129 ($96) depending on capacity, though we aren't sure yet what they'll sell for when they (hopefully) make the trip Stateside.

Samsung's U3 follow-up, the U4, already broke cover on a Korean website a few days ago, but that brief appearance unfortunately didn't consist of much more than a low res image of the device. The folks at Tevo have now thankfully cleared up the situation a bit, however, with a slightly better pic and some actual specs. Apparently, this one will be coming in 1GB and 2GB variations only, each of which will sport a 1-inch OLED display, along with support for MP3, WMA, and OGG formats, and a handy sliding USB connector. No word on a price just yet, but you can pretty safely bet this one will be on the low-end of Samsung's many offerings.[Thanks, Anthony]

If you found yourself infatuated with Samsung's YP-U3, you're sure to love the U4... we think. There's a complete dearth of information regarding the device itself, but given that it already has a placeholder and image on the outfit's Korean Yepp site, we'd say there's a pretty good chance it'll be getting real soon enough. Hold tight, miniature DAP lovers, Sammy won't keep you in the dark much longer.[Via AnythingButiPod]
