We haven't been this excited about Mortal Kombat since the first time Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 came out, and we've never had any reason to be excited about a portable Kombat. But this is just too cool. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon told IGN that a version of the classic fighting game will be coming to the DS-- with online play. Attention, developers: this is how you do a port on the DS.It'll also include Puzzle Kombat, the Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo clone found in Mortal Kombat Deception, which will also be playable online. The game will be out in November, and we look forward to eviscerating all of you at Game Night. In the game, we mean. We aren't planning to come to your houses and eviscerate any of you. We wouldn't even know how.

X3F Achievements 101 is back, and on its regularly scheduled time slot of Sundays. Initial response to our first edition was rather positive, so we're glad you like the concept and hope you enjoy reading, and even participating in the column. Emails with Achievement tips also came in at a good pace, and I look forward to playing and trading with you. One particular email stood out, which came from Casey over at brains-N-brawn.com, and the steps he took to get Achievements in one of the most time consuming Arcade games, Bejeweled 2.

Somewhere in the dark of night, the Project 8 demo finally slipped onto Xbox Live Marketplace. We were at the movies (the Prestige kicked ass) so, we're not sure if the demo made it onto Marketplace before midnight as promised or not. Of course, we're sure some of you were watching for it, and know exactly when it came out.And now, the other good news: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is now available on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 points. We're not sure if someone screwed up or if someone's is just making amends with all the gamers who wanted their P8 demo earlier, but there you have it. Hell, maybe they actually meant to release it on a weekend instead of a Wednesday. After all, MS works in mysterious ways. We're downloading both right now. Anybody tried these yet? Are they awesome? Not awesome?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Godfree and the gang at Gamertag Radio have been having a blast at Digital Life in NYC. And just to rub it in our faces, they have posted several shaky cam videos of themselves playing upcoming Xbox Live Arcade games. See video of Small Arms, Assault Heroes and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 after the break. Which one are you most excited for?

When my dad was coming up, one's identity was forged in this simple distinction: The Beatles or the Stones? In my day it became: Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat? This "classic" debate should enjoy a bit of a revival when Midway's Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is hoisted onto Xbox Live Arcade alongside Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting next month. Which franchise do you tend to ally with?Note: Midway has not announced UMK3's price or disclosed online multiplayer details.
