Motorola Sholes / Droid comes in US HSPA flavor, probably not US-bound
We've been led to believe in the past that there'd be a GSM version of Motorola's mighty Sholes for markets outside the US, but this particular version that passed the FCC this week -- ID IHDP56KC5, if you must know -- has us particularly interested. Why? Well, it's packing WCDMA on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, which means it'd work on AT&T, Rogers, and HSPA newcomers Bell and Telus. We've been led to believe, though, that this particular device is destined for Latin America where 850 / 1900 is also used in favor of the 2100MHz spectrum more prevalent in Europe. That doesn't rule out Canada, but our instincts tell us that Verizon has every intention of locking up the Sholes as a US exclusive, which means AT&T is a likely no-go -- the carrier's been strangely silent on Android, anyhow, and we haven't heard a peep of recent intel suggesting they're prepping Google-powered gear in time for the holidays. Of course, enterprising individuals will probably figure out how to unlock and import this bad boy, so if you're an American and the thought of switching to Big Red for a Droid makes you physically ill, take heart that there might yet be hope. HTC HD2 to arrive Stateside in early 2010 -- huzzah!
Snap, looks like that painful feeling in our gut was just from that late-night Mickey's sesh after all. HTC's Peter Chou told SlashGear today that the monstrous, amazing HTC HD2 will be coming to the United States of America sometime in Q1 of 2010. That's not too far off, but let's be honest -- it's gonna be a long wait. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
LG BL40 passes FCC again, this time with US 3G very much enabled
LG mentioned to us yesterday that there aren't any US plans in the cards for its lovely BL40 New Chocolate -- at least, none that it wants to talk about, even though we've got to believe Verizon's cooking up some plans -- but meanwhile there's still action on the North American front. A new variant of the BL40 dubbed BL40G ("G" for "gonna be awesome," obviously) has hit the FCC with HSPA enabled on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. You might recall that those bands were disabled on the last version the FCC checked out, so if anything, this might be the version that Canada's Telus is signed up for to help it kick off its upcoming HSPA network launch. Remind us to start researching political asylum claims a little closer to launch.
Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic shows up in FCC with US 3G support
So, here's what's awesome: Nokia's well received 5800 XpressMusic will be making the trip to US soil with US 3G support baked right in. Here's what's just so-so: there's no AT&T logo on the photos, so we're assuming Nokia will only be selling this one here in unlocked, unsubsidized form. Of course, we're just thrilled to know the phone will be making a proper debut in the US of A, but those looking to pick one up will certainly need to expect a lofty price tag.
US 3G version of LG's KC910 pops up, speculation abounds
Based on what we've learned about LG's KC910 (or the Renoir, as it's affectionately known), we had all ideas it was being reserved for corners of the globe not named USA. But after taking one look at the specifications on the outfit's Global web portal, we're beginning to have second thoughts. Granted, this whole thing could just be a copy and paste blunder, but the 8-megapixel cellie sure shows up as having support for 850/900/1800/1900 GSM bands. Everything else looks par for the course, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't a wee bit excited about the possibilities here.
