The only thing better than finally receiving the DVR you've waiting five years for is receiving one with four times the capacity as your provider wanted to give you. That is exactly what WeaKnees has done for years and exactly what it's doing now with the latest DirecTiVo, now that the first shipment has been received. For $599 you can now order the THR22 with a 2TB hard drive ($400 premium over the stock unit) which thanks to the magic of MPEG-4 -- and over-compression -- means a whole lot of recording capacity. The only rub is that technically these are "leased" boxes and would need to be returned to DirecTV if you ever canceled your service. And then there is the warranty, which has to be done via WeaKnees, else your potential replacement box won't include the premium capacity you paid for.

It's not streaking through downtown Dallas remaking Matt & Kim videos just yet but after an uneven start the TiVo Premiere continues to evolve, this time towards something with even more capacity and (hopefully) less lockups. ZatzNotFunny mentions a new software update to version 14.1c has gone live this weekend which is intended to fix lockups some customers are experiencing with more revisions promised over the coming weeks and months to address various performance and stability issues. Forum reactions are mixed, with some dropping back to the old UI for more stability and speed but if you're living the Premiere lifestyle let us know how things are going for you. Those still on the outside looking in who haven't been scared off by the growing pains can also consider a few new larger capacity options courtesy of longtime modder/reseller WeaKnees, now ready to deliver units with up to 2TB of storage internally or even externally for those who like it like that -- you know who you are.

Earlier this year, we saw that WeaKnees was offering up TiVo HD boxes with enough storage to hold a staggering 144 hours of HD content, and now the company is aiming to make a few holiday wishes come true by more than doubling that previous number. You heard right, TV packrats can now order up a TiVo HD Series 3 DVR from WeaKnees that can hold 292 hours of HD programming (or 2,800 hours of SD content). The DVR itself will house a 1TB SATA hard drive and come bundled with a 1TB external drive, and will cost you a whopping $1,599 (after $200 rebate, no less) to claim one as your own.

While cramming a larger hard drive into a vanilla Series 3 unit is all fine and dandy, WeaKnees is getting with the program and offering up upgraded TiVo HD boxes to those who just can't ever find enough space. Reportedly, the firm will be selling modified TiVo HD boxes "with up to 144 hours of HD capacity," and these beefed up iterations promise to record programming from traditional broadcast antennas, digital and analog cable, as well as the HD over-the-air broadcasts exactly like the factory-equipped counterparts. More specifically, interested customers have the option of getting 32, 43, 70, 107,or 144 hours of HD capacity depending on their budget, so be sure and hit the read link if you're ready to take the plunge.

Love it or hate it, the HR20 is here to stay, and one thing its got going for it is a 300GB hard drive, which is bigger than just about any DVR sold today -- including the Series3. But, just like many other DVRs out there, it is possible to upgrade the drive to expand its capacity and WeaKnees is there for the faint of heart. WeaKnees is well known for their TiVo upgrades, but now they are adding the HR20 to list. So for $999, you can now get an HR20 with 1TB of storage, which should go a long way in the world of MPEG4 or HD-Lite.

If you're a big enough TV fan to need 100 recorded hours of HDTV (or 925 hours of ever lovin' standard def) then you probably already know about WeaKnees, the website that sells modded TiVos at a premium. The site already has the TiVo Series3 available for pre-order at prices ranging from $800 to $1600, and the company says the new Series3 are expected in stock by September 22. But the better news -- and the reason we're writing this article -- is that these modded TiVos are being officially deigned eligible for the $200 lifetime service transfer that TiVo is offering to existing customers who buy the new Series3. We still don't know why TiVo doesn't just sell these beefed-up boxes itself instead of letting someone else do it -- but no matter, more power to the independent retailer![Via PVRWire]
