That's right, people, you read it here first: WoW.com is running articles on how to make your own pet food. The end days have arrived. If filler articles aren't your thing, scroll on by ... But if filler for your pets is where it's at, then you've come to the right place. While the pets shown here are neither rats nor turkeys (as recommended in the original recipe), we feel certain that common household critters such as dogs and cats will equally appreciate the merits of this delectable delight. But hey, if you prefer lobbing meat pellets at rats and turkeys in your living room (and then having them follow you around for three minutes) ... Well, to each his own. Out of all the delectable tidbits we've cooked up for our Well Fed Buff (now a part of the fun here in World of WarCrafts), can you believe we've never tossed together a batch of Barbecued Buzzard Wings?!? Appalling! After all, the opportunities for gathering Buzzard Wings are endless: Tanaris, Blasted Lands, Deadwind Pass, Western Plaguelands, Desolace, Badlands, Arathi Highlands ... Heck, you could even count Sharptalon in Ashenvale as a source of these mouth-watering inhalants. (Yeah, I called them inhalants. Isn't that what you do with barbecued wings?) With so many wings to choose from, we've kept things easy with recipes for three different skill levels (including those of you who were too hungry for Icecrown action to bother slowing down to train cooking -- we've got your back!).

Zarhym may not care for cranberries, but we do -- and since Pilgrim's Bounty is over and you can't get the ingredients for a good Cranberry Chutney anymore in game, we'll just have to make it at home instead. Although the word "chutney" sounds like it would be on the slimy and disgusting side for both cooking and eating, it's actually a tasty little condiment. We turned to Wisegeek.com (style points for that reference, please!) for a non-biased description of this dish: "Chutney is similar in consistency to jelly, salsa or relish, and is used as a sweet and sour condiment. Usually made fresh, chutney contains fruit and sugar to give it a sweet taste, and almost all chutney contains vinegar and perhaps onions to give it a corresponding sour flavor. The ingredients are mixed together and then simmered slowly. While chutney is primarily sweet and sour, there can also be many variations of spices, often giving it a hot and spicy flavor." Sound tempting? We've got a version for cooks and non-cooks alike.

Blogger and WoW.com friend Pixelated Executioner has introduced a brand new blog project -- he's working with a few other folks in the community on a new blog called Nourish, dedicated to providing some fun and relatively easy WoW-related recipes for real food. It all originally started over on Twitter, where a few of them decided to come up with some WoW-themed dish names, but eventually it escalated into the idea of an actual set of recipes, with the added bonus of getting some WoW players some real homemade food to eat as well (you can only go so far on Doritos and Mountain Dew, after all). There's only two recipes so far (both submitted by another friend of ours, Cadistra of WoW, Eh?), but that spice bread does look pretty tasty. If you're a foodie or just have been looking for a way to use something other than the microwave in your kitchen, it seems like a great place to start. And if you need more than the few they've got up so far, don't forget our old Well Fed Buff column -- it's retired now, but we've still got plenty of great WoW-related recipes to try making there as well.

  • Warcraft restaurant opens in Beijing

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/World_of_Warcraft_restaurant_opens_in_Beijing'; World of Warcraft continues to find ways to trickle beyond our virtual lives and into our day to day real lives. In Beijing, a new restaurant has opened up with a Warcraft theme, from the decor to the food. The entrance, which you can see above, is designed to look like the Dark Portal (The Burning Crusade's intro screen) and the interior walls are lined with artwork from the game and shots of characters in epic gear. TV screens throughout the restaurant play footage of the game, too.The food itself is even based on the game, and while CCTV.com reports that the menu is named after denizens of WoW, I wonder if they borrowed anything from the in-game recipes. The food shown in CCTV's video definitely looks Chinese in style, so I doubt you'll find anything there you would see in our very American Well Fed Buff, but that's probably a good thing. Personally, I'd love to see a menu. I'm also curious if this restaurant was given the go ahead from Blizzard or the9, or if they even need it.[via CCTV, thanks brucewain!]

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.Another day, another Queue. Forgive the awful quality of the screenshot above, I tried to show off Malygos' righteous beard but the guy doesn't sit still, even if you ask him nicely. He's a crabby son of a lich sometimes. Well, let's forget about him and dig into today's questions. As always, if you have a question for The Queue, leave it in the comments section below and we'll get to it in a future edition. Magebleck asked... As a mage, my main weapon is almost always a Staff with some good stats to it. Since Wrath of the Lich King has come out I have read several places that there are now some really well speced staffs that are "Bind to Account", such as the Dignified Headmaster's Charge and the Grand Staff of Jordan. I understand that their stats scale with level, but how does one go about aquiering these new "BtA" items?

Come with us back to Feralas this week for a simple but satisfying recipe from a gentler, simpler time. Baked Salmon Reagents: Raw Whitescale Salmon, Soothing Spices Requires Cooking (275) Pick up the recipe in Feralas from Sheendra Tallgrass (Horde) or Vivianna (Alliance). Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. I would hate to be accused of waxing melodramatic about a snack food (or a computer game, for that matter) – but have you ever noticed how positively persistent fans of pretzels can be about their gnosh of choice? There seem to be two camps among homemade pretzel lovers: those who crave the satisfying simplicity of recipes that send pretzels straight into the oven for a quick and easy bake, versus others who want dyed-in-the-wool traditional pretzels made the old-fashioned way. While the 'net-addicted crew at WoW Insider is easily mesmerized by clicking around the intertubes in search of authentic pretzel history and methodology, we recognize that our intrepid readers may want to get on with the show, make the pretzels already and log in to play. Well Fed Buff brings you what we think is the best of the quickie pretzel recipes. Keep reading for a link to the whole fermented truth about pretzels.

If you're a fan of Well Fed Buff, you'll enjoy the first episode of Cooking with Ethnea. I dug into the reader submissions to bring you an unpolished video with a lot of potential. Adreena, an aspiring machinimator, decided that she wanted to humorously visualize recipes instead of just read about them. Now I have to warn you, this machinima is really rough around the edges, but I love the concept. That's why I'm going to offer up some tips for her to use in her second episode. The most glaring mistake comes from improperly chroma keying the WoW Model Viewed character. The timing is off, so there is a noticeable difference between when Ethnea and the background appear. She also didn't adjust the high and low thresholds for her character, which is causing transparency issues. If you're just going to use still shots of your character in a picture of a background, you may as well put your character in the picture itself by using a photo editing program.[Thanks, Melissa!]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...Read on for more constructive tips ...

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. I don't have a fancy introduction for this week's recipe -- I'm just doing it. That's by direct order, in fact, after my daughter got a look at the page I was pondering from our well-worn file of favorite recipes: "Banana bread – Mommy, that is in World of Warcraft! DO it!" She has a point. We eat this stuff up, in game and out. And while it may not be as sexy as stat food, its wholesome goodness patches a player's hp right up for the next challenge – all via an easily trainable recipe with no rare mats required.

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. Whatever the Fourth of July may mean to you, I think most of us can agree that it's a great day for grilling. Amid the symphony of pops and bangs coming from my neighbor's fireworks of varying degrees of legality, I grilled up these splendid ribs for your reading pleasure. Expect a taste that's slightly spicy but delightfully tangy. Dry Pork Ribs are a low-level Cooking recipe and are edible by level five characters. They can be prepared at 80 skill. The mats for the in-game recipe are simple Boar Ribs and Mild Spices. It's nearly as simple in real life, just ribs and rub. Dry Pork Ribs restore 243 Health, and will give a 4 Stamina and Spirit buff for 15 minutes if you sit down and eat them.

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. Sorry Well Fed Buff is a little late. The burgers kept warping off the grill. But here they are in all their glory. I'd like to dedicate this week's WFB to my mom. Congrats on Level 40! I remember when I first wandered into Terokkar Forest just after the release of the burning crusade. I have to admit the Warp Stalkers creeped me out just a little bit. I found a wee bit of revenge I creating these tasty burgers. The in-game version yields one Warp Burger per cut of Stalker Flesh. This recipe restores 7500 health over 30 sec. If you spend at least 10 seconds eating you will become well fed and gain 20 Agility and Spirit for 30 min.

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. The fun of whipping up recipes for Well Fed Buff is that, like WoW itself, you can play at so many levels: a Fisherman's Feast for readers who cook, Conjured Croissants for those who don't ... Moonbrook Riot Taffy for those who simply want a snack, or Cherry Grog for players who prefer to avoid slaving over a hot oven at all ... There's something for every play style. Up this week: a low-level dinner recipe that everyone should work into their basic spec – Ogri'la Chicken Fingers. Attention, casters: no frying is involved, so you can pull this one off at range, without getting into melee on the stovetop.

  • Well Fed Buff: Spiced Wolf Meat

    06.06.2008

Every week, Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP and stats, just in time for your weekend gaming. It can be a real challenge to fit balanced meals into your heavy gaming schedule -- or work/school/life for that matter. In-game, we whip up a stack of meals and consume them when needed. I like to do the same in the real world. This week, we'll be making a stack of Spiced Wolf Meat for easy meals throughout the week. In Azeroth, Spiced Wolf Meat can be learned from any cooking trainer as soon as your cooking skill reaches 10. The ingredients required are Stringy Wolf Meat, which drops from wolves in Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, Tirisfal Glades and Mulgore and Mild Spices, which is purchasable at any Trade or or Cooking Supplies vendor. The in-game dish only supplies 2 Stamina and Spirit, but our version will be much heartier. This recipe is very similar to the Cuban dish Ropa Vieja. It is best cooked on a weekend when you have lots of time (though most of the time it is cooking you can be playing) and heats up very well in the microwave for quick, tasty and complete meals that are easily eaten beside the keyboard.

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. Your friends will stand in awe of your mage-ly prowess when you conjure up these delectable Conjured Croissants. Not only do these morsels add a hefty 7500 calories hp to your heroic hulk, but their 3-second 10-minute cast time and low mats requirement means you can conjure them up in at a moment's notice – all while projecting the nonchalant air of a true master of the elements. Our version comes with a special twist: a gooey center of dark chocolate. Roll up this simple, two-ingredient version of pain au chocolat for a treat that impresses. One caveat: Conjured items disappear if logged out for more than 15 minutes. Don't AFK, or you may find yourself the only one in the group stuck using bandages (you did level your First Aid skill, didn't you?).

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. Those Trolls from Yojamba Isle were on to something. Before The Burning crusade, one of the cool foods that players could get were Essence Mangoes, a quest reward that could be obtained by handing in a Zandalar Honor Token. These weren't actually any better than Alterac Manna Biscuits, and back when Zul'gurub was still in vogue, the tokens weren't quite worth turning in for an average food that didn't give any buffs. But the quest describes mangoes as luscious fruits from the South Seas, and it couldn't be more true. Mangoes are significant fruits in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. In the Philippines, where I live, mangoes are an everyday treat and I think we have the best mangoes in the world. Today on Well Fed Buff, we'll put a new spin on the Essence Mango (which is essentially just a fruit) by making a simple, healthy drink that is sure to restore your health and mana as well as tickle your taste buds.

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. The cool thing about food and drink in the World of Warcraft are all the little real-world and lore references you'll find tucked into the items: Cuergo's Gold and Cuergo's Gold with Worm (from one of the funnest puzzle quests in the game) never fail to bring a smile to my face when I encounter them in game. So it amazed me a bit when I realized I'd never noticed Moonbrook Riot Taffy, because I'm a huge fan of yummy noshes that kids can help make at home. Rather than present you with a taffy recipe here, I'd like to point you to what I think is the coolest-of-the-cool taffy recipes at a coolest-of-the-cool web site (are you catching how cool I think this stuff is?): The Accidental Scientist Science of Cooking's Saltwater Taffy recipe. If you've never visited the Accidental Scientist, you're in for a treat. They offer recipes, activities and webcasts that point out the science behind cooking. This taffy recipe, for example, poses questions (and answers) about what the corn starch does, what the glycerin does and what the pulling part of taffy-making is all about – topped off with a list of teasers designed to get you trying variations (and figuring out what makes them work or not work). Back in Azeroth, you can buy Moonbrook Riot Taffy from Alowicious Czervik in Orgrimmar, Emmithue Smails in Stormwind City or seasonally from the Hallow's End candy vendors in Ironforge or Orgrimmar. Or make your own taffy at home -- it's a workout, science class and delicious treat all in one. You'll never look at Moonbrook Riot Taffy the same! Submit your own Warcraft-themed noshes for Well Fed Buff (subject line: Well Fed Buff) – we're always looking for a tasty stat boost!

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. The calendar says that spring has spring, which means we should be out Bar B Queuing, but the Earth Mother seems to disagree. It has been unseasonably cold and windy in many areas, which gives us plenty of opportunities for hot chili, soup, and stew. This week we indulge in Runn Tum Tuber Surprise. In game the recipe calls for Runn Tum Tubers and Soothing Spices. The tubers are found in Warpwood Pods in Dire Maul or drop from Pusillin, who also drops this recipe. This dish can be consumed by characters 45 and higher. It restores 1933 health over 27 seconds and increases your Intellect by ten for ten minutes. The real life version is relatively simple to make, and requires considerably less talent than the 275 Cooking skill required for the virtual version.

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course. My wife grimaces whenever I stop my channel surfing to watch Giada de Laurentiis on Everyday Italian. She can't complain, though, since I do the cooking at home and I use, ahem, culinary education as my excuse for watching the show. Today on Well Fed Buff, I'll do my own celebrity chef impression and continue my trend of outlining perfectly simple dishes that any lazy gamer can whip up at home without messing it up too much. Just like fried bananas, of course, it's pretty hard to go wrong with an omelet. We're not just talking about any omelet, though, mind you. It's a Monster Omelet! In-game Monster Omelets require a Giant Egg and a couple of Soothing Spices, which really aren't difficult to put together. Of course, the key ingredient is a Giant Egg, which isn't too easy to come by but some delis and well-stocked grocers might have ostrich eggs. One supermarket in Manila fortunately had one in stock, and it retailed for about $14.
