Navigation systems don't often get the same special edition treatment given to cellphones and other gadgets, but TomTom looks to be doing its small part to change that, and it's now announced its new "White Pearl" edition nav unit. As you might expect, however, apart from that eye-catching exterior, this one is basically just a re-purposed version of one of TomTom's existing devices -- a TomTom ONE IQ Routes edition, in this case. While the specs no doubt remain the same, TomTom has at least gone so far as to add a new start-up screen that fills out the design, not to mention a few new, totally not obvious special points of interest like "Places to be seen" and "Shop 'til you drop." No word on a release 'round here, but it looks like folks in the UK will be able to pick one up this month for £179.99, or just about $300 even.

In case you couldn't really wrap your brain around what a white version of the BlackBerry Pearl might look like, we've finally laid our paws on some eye candy that should clear things right up for ya. According to our sources, it's not a flat color, but a pearly white that "shines" -- a little more glitzy than the solid black we're used to seeing on this sucker. Look for the phone to launch this coming Monday for the same price as its darker sibling (we hope), but in the meantime, click through for s'more visuals.[Thanks, The Fish and johnnyFive]

  • RIM cooking up a white Pearl for T-Mobile?

Wait a tick -- in nature, aren't black pearls more precious than white pearls? And following that logic, shouldn't RIM have released the white Pearl first and manufactured like ten of them for every black one? Seriously, RIM, get with the program; talk to Verizon and LG for an idea of how this punny product name thing works. Anyhoo, an intrepid reader found this microscopic picture (blown up for readability and hardcore blurriness) of a pale Pearl on T-Mobile's support site, which seems like pretty strong evidence of an impending release. We'd say it was the keypad that needed fixing first, not the color, but is there really any doubt RIM's gonna sell a baker's dozen of these anyway?[Thanks, Penn]

  • Black Diamond - Diamonds - Black = White Pearl

If your dreams have been haunted by visions of VIPN's $300,000 Black Diamond but the thought of mortgaging a cell phone wasn't really sitting too well with you, might we direct your attention to the Black Diamond's less-costly sibling, the White Pearl. At "just" $1,500, the White Pearl's price should be music to the ears of folks who are merely rich -- you get the same Jaren Goh design in white instead of black and you lose the diamonds, but the rest of the specs remain the same. Heck, you even still get the 2GB SD card bundled in the box. We weren't able to track down the White Pearl on VIPN's site, but if this all checks out, look for the nifty candybar to drop about the same time as its bejeweled counterpart in early 2007.[Via I4U News]
