    Humble Indie Bundle 6 just added four new games to its already stellar lineup, available to those who pay more than the average (currently less than $6): Bit.Trip Runner, Wizorb, Jamestown and Gratuitous Space Battles. All four games are DRM-free, of course, and come packaged with soundtracks. They're redeemable via Steam or the Ubuntu Software Center.These four join Rochard, Shatter, S.P.A.Z., Torchlight, Vessel and Dustforce, the last of which is unlockable by paying more than the average as well. With the new games, Humble Indie Bundle 6 is now worth $135, and as always, buyers can allocate how much of their purchase benefits charity, the developers or Humble Bundle itself. The sixth bundle will be available for seven more days, right here.

  • Daily iPhone App: Wizorb turns Breakout into an RPG

    Wizorb is a title that originally came out on Steam, but it just recently arrived on iOS, and it's a nice one to have in our gigantic library. The game is a mix of breakout and the old 8/16-bit RPGs, and the combat is essentially the old Breakout game. You use a paddle at the bottom of the screen to knock a ball up into bricks and enemies above. Wizorb wisely never backs down from its 16-bit RPG style, so the graphics, the spells, and even the music are delightfully retro, and should be familiar to anyone who played similar RPGs during that era. The Breakout side of the game is solid as well. It can be a little unclear just what you're earning as you collect potions, coins or gems after breaking blocks, and the addition of spells like fireballs and an "alter" spell (which will push your ball in a different direction) can make things even more confusing. But as long as you keep the ball from falling offscreen, you'll be good. The controls on PC were probably a little better for this kind of gameplay. Swiping your finger across the screen constantly isn't the most fun thing to do. It's strange that the game doesn't have tilt controls, but that's probably a consequence of its PC heritage. All in all, Wizorb is a well-made retro game, and it combines these two seemingly disparate game genres in very interesting and fun ways. If you missed it on Steam, it's worth picking up on iOS, and there's plenty of content to bounce your way through. It's US$2.99 in a universal version, available right now. #next_pages_container { width: 5px; hight: 5px; position: absolute; top: -100px; left: -100px; z-index: 2147483647 !important; }

    Wizorb is officially spreading to up to three more platforms next week in North America. Beatshapers has ported Tribute Games' RPG-style Breakout game to PlayStation Minis, allowing users to play it on PS3 and PSP, and, as Beatshapers says, "eventually on your PS Vita" – because of the vagaries of the Vita's PSP backward compatibility, it's difficult to tell if it will run on Vita, or if not, when.By breaking bricks and defeating monsters, you can help save the kingdom of Gorudo – both by, you know, defeating the monsters, and by collecting money to rebuild the destroyed homes and businesses in its towns.

    Generally, having a magical wizard in your pocket would either be incredibly uncomfortable for one (or both) of you, or prohibitively expensive. Wizard upkeep costs an arm and a leg as it is, and with the money you'd spend on the reagents needed to concoct a shrinking potion, you could buy an entire mage. It's a pain, and usually not worth it.There's is, however, a more humane, cost effective solution on the horizon. WizOrb, the pixelated, chiptuned indie block-breaking/RPG hybrid from Beatshapers and Tribute Games will smash through geometrically perfect arrangements of blocks and onto your friendly neighborhood PS3, PSP and/or Vita next month, when it launches as a $3.99 PlayStation Mini.%Gallery-156229%

    This past weekend game developers all around the globe got together and tried to create games based on the amazing tweets of the Peter Molyneux parody persona, @PeterMolydeux. One of our favorites is Friends 'til the End, a game inspired by this tweet:"You play as a small boy with a remote control helicoptor that is alive and your friend, then you discover a nuclear missle [sic] inside it."In Friends 'til the End, players must simultaneously navigate a small boy and a toy helicopter through treacherous environments. We don't want to spoil what happens when you fail in the game -- check out the video above to see for yourself.The event, dubbed "What Would Molydeux?" concluded yesterday. Friends 'til the End is designed by the folks at Tribute Games, whom you may recall from WizOrb. We really want to play it, so excuse us while we go do that right now!

    Wizorb, the first title from superstar indie team Tribute Games, is sliding onto PC Nov. 7 through GamersGate, supporting gamepad, keyboard and mouse controls. Jonathan Lavigne announced the PC release date on his blog, writing that it's possible to play the entire game with only the mouse. "As you might expect, using the mouse feels more natural than an analog stick for controlling the paddle," Lavigne wrote. "It also makes Wizorb rely even more on reflexes which feels great and makes the game a tad easier." Tribute is also working on Mac and Linux ports for Wizorb, which released on XBLIG Sept. 29.

    A new indie contender has entered the fray, this one begun by former Ubisoft and Eidos employees Jonathan Lavigne, Justin Cyr and Jean François Major, lovingly named Tribute Games. Lavigne announced Tribute on his personal blog, Pixeltao: "We chose the name Tribute Games because when we make games, we want to pay tribute to all the cool games from our childhood. We're passionate indies aiming at making entertaining games with a focus on pixel art and classic game design (sometimes with a modern twist)." The Tribute boys have been working on the below indie Wizorb, a fantasy breakout game headed to XBLIG later this month, with a PC version to follow.
