Jeff Bezos has been trying to get biz-ay. And failing spectacularly at it. The Amazon CEO is accusing the National Enquirer of "extortion and blackmail" after pictures of his dink somehow ended up in the tabloid's hands. But he wasn't the only one this week wishing to hop on the fastest transport available and make a run for it.

Amazon has traditionally stuck to buying and producing films, relying on indie film studios to distribute its flicks to cinemas. However, its next big release will see the retail giant's burgeoning production arm move one step closer to becoming a full-scale film studio. According to Variety, Amazon Studios will solely handle distribution for Woody Allen's Wonder Wheel, which is due out in December. As a result, it will have complete control over how the film is released -- from marketing to film festival screenings to its wider rollout in theatres.

If you don't have a Prime subscription but want to check out some of Amazon's original series, you're in luck. The company has made ten pilot episodes from some of its best dramas, comedies, and kids' series free to watch on YouTube and Facebook for the first time ever. The lineup includes Amazon's most-streamed show, The Man in the High Castle, as well as Mozart in the Jungle and Transparent, both of which have won multiple Golden Globes.

Amazon's had its day on stage at the Television Critics' Association press tour, and this fall will be a big one for the streaming video firm. It's revealed that a raft of shows will debut across September and October, including Woody Allen's Crisis in Six Scenes, which drops on September 30th. The bigger news, however, is probably dedicated to the return of the award-winning Transparent, the third season of which kicks off on September 23rd.

It's been a week of mixed news for the tech industry. Boston Dynamics and MIT showed off new devices that could radically advance humanity while, at the same time, Sharp was acquired for billions by a company whose employees regularly throw themselves from its roof. Samsung showed off some massive new memory chips even as its lawyers continued their perpetual war with Apple. Worst of all, some genius gave Woody Allen money to make a new movie. Just, ugh.

After shelling out $10 million for Manchester by the Sea at Sundance, Amazon spent big on another film. The online retailer nabbed North American theatrical and streaming rights to Woody Allen's upcoming untitled film for the sum of $15 million. We already knew Amazon had secured the rights, and now we know what it cost. That's three times what Sony paid for Irrational Man, a movie that eked out a mere $4 million at box offices in the US. This new Allen film stars Steve Carell, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively and Kristen Stewart, but little else is known about it.
