Worms aren't known for being the most expedient creatures. The game costs $4.99/£2.99/€3.99, depending on your geographical location, and is available through both Google Play and Amazon's Appstore for Android, for folks with a Kindle Fire. Like its previous incarnations, Armageddon on Android features 30 single-player missions and multiplayer support for two players via Wi-Fi or up to four local players, in addition to 12 gameplay modes and customization options for the worms.%Gallery-185123%

Worms 2: Armageddon has gotten not one or two but three brand new content packs announced for the game on XBLA and PSN. The "Puzzle Pack" is available today on Xbox Live, and brings 20 new single-player puzzle missions, five new achievements, and some new cosmetic content onto your console for 320 Microsoft Points ($4). Additionally, the PSN version has gained the "Retro Pack," with 20 more single-player missions and new speech banks and other content, and the "Time Attack Pack," with even more race missions to play through. Some of that content was presumably already in the Xbox DLC that arrived last month, so now PSN players can enjoy it as well, at a price of $4.99 each (with extra discounts for PlayStation Plus members). All three packs are available right now, and Team 17 is promising more new content packs to come. You can browse through screenshots of all the new content below. Worms 2: Armageddon for iOS devices will be $1 for a "limited time." The "Battle Pack," an in-app expansion, which adds more weapons and a new single-player campaign, has also been reduced to $1. The game and add-on are normally $5 and $2, respectively. For a bunch of soil-slithering invertebrates, the Worms are sure getting around in the news this week. On Monday, Worms: Ultimate Mayhem was rated by the Australian Classification Board, though no official details have followed yet. %Gallery-107557%

Creepy-crawlies form the theme of this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week, with all the featured titles getting 50 percent off the asking price. There's quite a diversity of invertebrate offerings, including the turn-based mayhem of Worms 2: Armageddon, the strategic Band of Bugs, the fantastic platforming of Earthworm Jim HD and twitchy blasting in Centipede and Millipede. The last title is 200 MS points ($2.50), while the rest are 400 MSP ($5) each. The deals last until next Monday, December 6. Now, excuse us while we go look at adorable puppy videos for a little bit, because all this bug talk gave us the heebie-jeebies.

Anxious to bolster your crawling army's cache of weaponry in Worms 2: Armageddon? Starting today, attempted wormicide just got a bit more interesting through the release of the "Battle Pack" DLC, which adds a new single-player campaign of 30 new deathmatches, more customization options, new game modes such as "Warzone," "Forts Pro" on iOS and the survival variant "Bodycount" on PS3, a slew of new awards and Trophies and, of course, new weapons, which include "termites, ferrets and worship statues." Sorry, European PS3 users -- you've got to wait until tomorrow before you can access the new content. The DLC will set worm wranglers back $1.99 on iOS devices, while the PS3 booster shot will cost a bit more at $4.99 (€3.99 in Europe). Feel free to check out some screens of the new content in our galleries below, if you want. It's not like you have a worm with a shotgun pointing at your back or anything if you don't. Oh, by the way, don't turn around! %Gallery-107557% %Gallery-107558%

It's a relatively quiet week for the PSN update ... unless you count the explosions from all-out wormy warfare in Worms 2 Armageddon. The first downloadable PlayStation Move game, Tumble, also makes it debut alongside demos for Move titles Racquet Sports and EyePet. There are also discounts this week on Monkey Island Special Edition 2: Lechuck's Revenge and Mega Man 9. So, all in all, a pretty good week for downloadable titles. Check out the full update after the break. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

The belligerent invertebrates of Worms 2: Armageddon are ready to declare open hostilities today on PSN. Launching when the Tuesday service update goes live, the full 1080p title features a single-player campaign, along with online and couch multiplayer support. The opportunity to toss the Holy Hand Grenade across the PlayStation Network will cost $15. The PSN version of Worms 2: Armageddon will also offer 27 Trophies to collect and Sony-specific hats for the little warriors. Unlockable helmets include: Sackboy-, Motorstorm-, Lemmings-, Buzz- and Helghast-themed variants. With all those Worms on the field wearing Helghast masks, we guess it'll be *puts on glasses* ... a Killzone. Yeeeaaahhhhhhhh.

In addition to announcing release dates for Blacklight: Tango Down and Monkey Island 2: Special Edition, Microsoft has also revealed that new DLC is on the way for XBLA's Toy Soldiers and Worms 2: Armageddon. The Toy Soldiers "The Kaiser's Battle" add-on ($5) arrives tomorrow, June 30, and lets players try out the French army, take on a new boss, grab three more Achievements and enjoy new multiplayer and survival maps. On Wednesday, July 7, the Worms 2 "Battle Pack" ($5) will be released and includes six new weapons, new speech banks, 10 new forts, a new "Survivor" game mode, more Achievements, new player titles, leaderboards and 30 new single-player missions. Sheesh -- you'd think Team17 would save something for a future DLC pack.

  • Worms 2, Galactrix half-off at Amazon [update]

    12.03.2009

Update: As some commenters have pointed out, it looks like the deals are no longer available. We hope you managed to snag one. We bet you were really hoping to not spend an extra five dollars today. We're sure you thought to yourself that you've got plenty of games to play and, honestly, what could you buy with five bucks anyway? The answer: Worms 2: Armageddon on Xbox Live Arcade. The good people at CheapCollegeGamers have uncovered a pair of great deals on Amazon. First and foremost, Worms 2 is available for a paltry $5, fifty percent off the usual $10 price tag. If you don't have it already, it would be crazy not to buy it at that price. Amazon is also offering Puzzle Quest: Galactrix at a discounted price of $10, half of the normal $20 cost. Granted, it's not quite as easy to recommend Galactrix as Worms 2, but $10 is a much more palatable price. Now go buy Worms 2. • Worms 2 gets patched up on XBLA

    11.20.2009

We've all felt the pain of pressing the jump button a second time just barely too late in a game of Worms 2, sending a brave worm soldier free falling off the side of a mountain or, worse yet, into the watery depths below. Recognizing that the game might have some issues – and rather than simply calling us "newbs" like most people do – Worms 2 developers Team17 have just released a patch aimed at ailing all that is wrong with the adorable multiplayer strategy games. Listing everything from "Back flip input slowed down to stop incorrect jumps harming the player" to "Fixed bug which made crates in Forts matches only land on the right hand side," as well as a slurry of other fixes, Team17 seems to have given the nearly five-month-old release a full overhaul. An overhaul that'll perhaps feel all the more worthwhile when the developers make good on next year's DLC for the game. In the meantime, we'll be over here waiting for you with a Buffalo of Lies. • Worms for the iPhone submitted to Apple

    07.10.2009

Everyone's favorite battling invertebrates are coming to the iPhone and iPod touch very soon -- the game was actually announced a little while ago, but Team 17 now says the game has been sent off to be examined by Apple's eyes, and so, as long as it doesn't have any objectionable content (you can't object to exploding sheep, right?), we'll see it up for download very soon.Exciting. Unfortunately, I'm coming off of a Worms 2 purchase on Xbox Live, so I'll probably be passing on this one, but if you haven't had a Worms fix in a while, the video on the next page shows what Team 17 is saying over on their Facebook page: it's "a full console-style experience," with extra options, including probably the ability to play your own music as you play. Multiplayer will only be pass-to-play to start with (bummer!), but they're hoping to add in both Internet and Bluetooth local multiplay at a later date. And there's no official word on price yet, but we should know it soon: look for Worms on an iPhone near you.

  • Xbox Live Top 10: Halo, can anyone hear me?

    07.07.2009

Xbox Live sure can, Master Chief, as your game Halo 3 was once again the most played title on Xbox Live. For the week ending June 29, many gamers took to the floating rings in space for some first-person combat, knocking down the duo of Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 4 to second and third place, respectively. The rest of the list posted by Major Nelson is pretty run-of-the-mill, save for what came in last place: Rock Band 2. We can't remember the last time Rock Band 2 populated this list. So, good for you, little game-that-could! On the XBLA side, it's all about the Worms 2. Explosive sheep were quite the draw, as the sequel to Team17's fragfest managed to beat out another popular XBLA title, Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalker. We guess Magic: The Gathering is all tapped out. Get it? Hello? Where are you going?

XBLA is dropping a holy hand grenade's worth of violence this week with Worms 2: Armageddon and King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match. Whether you're into vertebrate or spineless carnage, the entry fee to these glorious celebrations of hurt will cost 800 ($10) apiece.Armageddon brings some upgrades to the original Worms XBLA title, so definitely check it out if you're a fan of the series. As for KOF98, the game is about $10 cheaper than the PS2 release, and does support online play -- but there's never a guarantee on how that'll go. %Gallery-46744%

Team 17 loves using Facebook to announce stuff and the release date for Worms 2: Armageddon is no exception. The slimy critters will be bringing along their favorite WMDs to the XBLM on July 1 and they're yours for 800 ($10). Terrifyingly, Team 17's announcement note also reminds us that the original Worms: Armageddon came out 10 years ago (we remember playing the original Worms on our 386s even longer ago). This version has been expanded with extra features, weapons and levels. You can see the full list of improvements over at Team 17's Facebook page.

  • Worms 2: Armageddon trailers bring the fire, new feature

    05.15.2009

Team 17 has released not one, not two, but three new trailers for the upcoming XBLA release, Worms 2: Armageddon. The trailers show off some of the features that will be available in the game. Two features returning to the series (but absent from the previous XBLA release) are fire and electromagnets. The fire is fairly self-explanatory: It will spread and damage things in its path (and cause certain items to explode). The electromagnet can either repel or attract enemy ordinance depending on how it's used. Finally, one new feature is revealed: Player reactions. Did you ever find it strange that enemy worms would just calmly sit there as a stick of dynamite slowly ticked away next to them? Those days are over. If you drop something nasty next to another worm now, they will appropriately express their mortal terror. Check out all three trailers after the break.[Via GamerBytes]

    03.04.2009

Team 17 has revealed on its Facebook page some images and details about its double-barrel offering of Worms on PSN and XBLA. With the OFLC outing both games last week, the studio didn't see the harm in showing off avatar support and vertical levels for the XBLA version, which is now apparently being called Worms 2: Armageddon. The PSN edition of Worms -- which is an "expanded" port of the original XBLA game -- features "vastly" improved physics and displays in 1080p. We should have hands-on time with both titles at GDC and hopefully get a release window by then. [Thanks, Benvio] %Gallery-46744% %Gallery-46745%

  • OFLC outs Worms Armageddon Decade for XBLA [update]

    by

    02.25.2009

A listing appearing on the Australian Classification Office website has revealed that another Team 17 Worms title, Worms Armageddon Decade, may eventually inch its way to the Xbox Live Arcade. The Armageddon Decade rating appears to have been applied for by Microsoft, which probably means this Worms edition will be an exclusive XBLA release and is a different project than the PSN's upcoming Worms. If the awesomeness that is Worms Armageddon is anything to go by, the XBLA's special Decades edition should be one of the most enjoyable Worms titles to date. That is, if Team 17 doesn't skimp on the weapon selection. Update: Team 17 just informed us about the differences between the upcoming Worms games. The PSN edition will be an enhanced version of the XBLA release, including more weapons, additional levels, new audio and 1080p support. The XBLA release of Worms Armageddon Decade (which we're told is subject to a name change) will be a "vastly expanded edition" of the original XBLA Worms, that will include weapons and features from Worms Armageddon as well as other brand new content. More details to come. [Via GamerBytes; Thanks Ryan!]
