  • Upcoming Xbox Originals: Raze's Hell and Sega Soccer Slam

Microsoft just revealed that both Sega Soccer Slam and Raze's Hell will be coming to an Xbox Originals near you next Monday, December 15th. And, as is the norm, both games will take up some hard drive giggage and cost you 1200 Microsoft points. For the un-edjumacted, Sega's Sega Soccer Slam was a 2002 Xbox release that, pretty much, is over the top soccer with whacked out characters. Atari and Artech Studios' Raze's Hell is an action adventure where you play Raze and embark on a journey to "vanquish the twisted princess and her invading force of Kewletts by any means necessary." God bless Xbox Originals.

Ah, Xbox Originals. Striving to bring you the finest specimens of the original Xbox's back catalog as full downloads for 360. Or, as it turns out, a seemingly random assortment of games that aren't exactly classics.Next Monday, December 15, this league of extraordinarily inconsistent games welcomes two new members: Sega Soccer Slam and Raze's Hell. The arcade-style soccer game by Visual Concepts (now 2K Sports) and Artech Studios' darkly humorous action game can be yours for 1200 ($15) each. They're both solid games, actually, but with the wealth of superb new releases bombarding us from every direction, they're more "rainy day" material than anything.%Gallery-39015%%Gallery-39018%

  • A zappy Zapper is officially an Xbox Original

As promised, the classic and wicked cricket Zapper has made its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace as a 1200 Microsoft point Xbox Original title. Blitz Games' 599MB Zapper includes eighteen levels spread across four worlds with one final boss that's oh so intimidatingly named Maggie. Exciting stuff.Warning to those who love themselves scrolling credits, because Microsoft warns that the Xbox Originals version of Zapper suffers from "minor graphical corruption occurs in the End Credits" which "causes some of the end credits to appear cut off." End credits being cut off? Seriously, what has the world come to?

We know, we know. It's kind of hard to keep reading this when you know that Zapper is headed to Xbox Originals. Stay with us though, because the game isn't actually available yet, so you can't run off to download it anyway. No, the game won't actually be available on the service until November 17, at which point we imagine all of the world's social interaction and commerce will cease -- apart from the massive influx of MS Point purchases -- throwing the global economy into a tailspin. Deliveries will stop, utilities will shut down, but no one will care. We'll all be mesmerized by the awesomeness that is Zapper, and we will play until the electricity fails. As Zapper constantly prods the pleasure nodes in our brains, we will slowly, blissfully succumb to starvation.Either that or Zapper's release will slip by completely unnoticed, one of the two.[Via Joystiq]

You know that song, "Live Like You Were Dying?" You know what near-death activity you won't find in there between "Rocky Mountain climbin'" and going "2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Manchu?" "Turning forgettable Frogger 2 rip-off Zapper into an Xbox Original." Likewise, "playing Zapper" or "ever thinking about Zapper" are also conspicuously absent. In fact, we'd wager that you could gather the bucket lists of every member of humanity and never see Zapper mentioned once. This is why we should have been consulted before a single member of humanity was tasked with spending one nanosecond of their time turning Zapper into a 1200-point Xbox Original. Then we could have advised them that they'd be better off wadding all that time into a big chrono-ball, putting it in a rocket and shooting it into the sun.

According to Xbox.com's Xbox Originals section of the web, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be releasing to the Marketplace as a 1200 Microsoft point Xbox Original download. You may think you're a big tough guy in Liberty City, but you don't know nothing about the streets. On the streets of San Andreas, danger's around every corner, you spend a surprising amount of time on bicycles and you can get fat in like an hour ... like really fat. It's no joke in the SA, it's for real.If you think that, unlike b****es, you can hang with the streets, you have your shot: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is now an Xbox Original, available for 1200 MS Points ($15). Just don't blame us when the fire department has to carry your tubby ass out of your house with a forklift. That's the streets.Update: San Andreas will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace starting Monday, October 20, 2008[Thanks, Harith]

It's high time for some real talk about Xbox Originals. Specifically, who's choosing what makes the cut? Not that Destroy all Humans! or Intellivision Lives! are bad games by any means. It's just that, when you think of a service that could be offering the best, exclusive games from a system's previous generation on the current one via the interwebs, you'd hope they'd be more ... original and memorable. As it stands, we're getting a complete mish-mash of revered and forgettable moments from the annuls of the original Xbox. How about some Panzer Dragoon Orta or Star Wars: Republic Commando before the likes of Kabuki Warriors? Ahem. Ranting aside, both Destroy All Humans! and Intellivision Lives! hit the Xbox Live Marketplace on September 15 for 1200 ($15) each. We'd love to hear which Xbox games you would have join the ranks of the Xbox Originals in comments.

Holy exclamation points! Microsoft just announced that both Destroy All Humans! and Intellivision Lives! are set to become Xbox Originals, releasing next Monday, September 15th. Exclamation point! As is customary with all Xbox Originals, both titles will release to the Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft points apiece and require some hard drive gigage. For those who aren't familiar with either title, Intellivision Lives! is a collection of over 60 old-old-school Intellivision games while Pandemic's Destroy All Humans! is all about doing alien related activities like probing humans and flying around the city in a UFO wreaking havoc. We've always thought that Jade Empire gets a bad rap, perhaps in part because it came from BioWare, a house normally known for its sterling quality. After all, it's got a decent story, sort of decent combat, and roster of characters that walks the line between stereotypical and racist. ... Come to think of it, it's not really their best effort, is it? Luckily, you don't have to take our word for it: The game is now available for $15 as an Xbox Original. We were going to heartily recommend it, but now, after having a bit of a think, we're not so sure. Let's open it up to our loyal commenters: Is Jade Empire worth the cash and time?[Via X3F]

Remember way back in February when Jade Empire was rumored to be releasing as an Xbox Original, but was later flat out denied? Yeh, well maybe that was true then, but today we call shenanigans because Jade Empire just released to the XBLM as part of the Xbox Originals catalog. For 1200 Microsoft points and around 6.2GB of your precious hard drive space, you'll be able to experience BioWare's classic RPG, martial arts and travel magical lands. Oh happy day.

Team Originals is about to get another member added to the roster, according to the Gamescore Blog. On July 21, Jade Empire will be added to Xbox Originals -- the downloadable portal for Xbox titles on the Live Marketplace. BioWare's role-player adventure of martial arts and mystical powers will run gamers the standard 1200MS points. The version made available is the standard edition of the game as the limited edition has had issues with Xbox backwards compatibility in the past. Oh, and before you ask, yes there are dialog trees in the game. We are talking about a BioWare game, remember? Sorry, no blue aliens.

Hopefully you are prepared (we did give you enough of an advance warning), because today it's time for another amazing Xbox Originals release! Celebratory vanilla cake and party poppers for all! And this week's Xbox Originals are none other than Arc System Works' Guilty Gear X2 #Reloaded and Krome Studios' The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. Each will cost you 1200 Microsoft points and some hard drive gigage, but also a cautionary note. Those who decide to jump into the Xbox Originals mix, be on the look out for "some minor irregularities with audio/video for brief periods" while playing. Major Nelson announced this morning that Guilty Gear X2 #Reload and The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning will release will become Xbox Original titles on Monday, June 16. As usual with all Xbox Originals, each title will set virtual wallets back 1200 MS space-bucks and offer the same interactivity as the original retail release.Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, which we reported would see life as an Xbox Original in February, was a critically acclaimed fighting title when it hit retail and includes full Xbox Live support. Fighting game fans should take note as GGX2#R is one of the better titles the genre saw last generation. The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning is a Spyro game. So, make of that what you will. As always we recommend poking around your local game stores and compare prices if either title is something you'd like to add to your gaming collection.

We'd love to meet the person who's choosing what games to re-release as Xbox Originals. Because, to be perfectly honest, we just don't get how they're deciding which games will get the treatment and in what order. Take, for example, this new coupling, arriving on your 360 on June 16: Guilty Gear XX #Reload (1200 Microsoft Points, WW except Europe): "Guilty Gear X2 #Reload makes its Xbox® debut, and, for the first-time ever, introduces online play with head-to-head Xbox Live™ support! Play over 20 different combatants and hidden characters, and devastate your opponents with an arsenal of eye-popping, jaw-dropping moves and combos-it's good to beat each other!" The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning (1200 Microsoft Points, WW except Germany, Japan, and Korea): "Explore the origins of the one and only powerful purple dragon in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. Uncover Spyro's secret history as you embark on a dangerous quest to face off against the ultimate creation of the Dark Master, Cynder." Really guys? Spyro and Guilty Gear? We've only got two questions -- well, no, we have dozens, but here are the two we're dying to ask: Just how big does a dartboard have to be to fit all the Xbox games on it? And which blindfolded intern is chucking the darts?

  • Stubbs and Gauntlet now on Xbox Originals

It's time for some new Xbox Originals, kids! This time we get Stubbs the Zombie and Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows. Stubbs was created by Wideload, the studio behind the upcoming Hail to the Chimp. Those who fancy playing the role of a zombie (as opposed to ruthlessly slaughtering them) should definitely take note. Seven Sorrows successfully managed to fall off the radar, probably thanks to the fact that it launched in December of 2005. You may recall a certain console that launched a month prior. While it may have been overlooked, Seven Sorrows is unique in the Gauntlet series as it was originally developed by industry vet John Romero (best known for the awesome Doom series or the awful Daikatana, depending on your point of view). He left the project (and Midway) just months prior to completion.Of the two 1200 MS Point ($15) titles, Stubbs seems to be the better value, as Amazon has the retail version's used price pegged at around $25, whereas Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows hovers right around the $17 dollar mark with shipping.

Microsoft's Xbox Originals collection on Xbox Live continues to slowly grow, with two new titles to add to the list next week: Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse, and Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows.Stubbs the Zombie is an under-appreciated 2005 release from Wideload Games, featuring a satirical film-noir approach to the zombie genre. Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows is, well, another Gauntlet game, this time handled by veteran Doom designer John Romero. Reviews for Gauntlet were, at best, a mixed bag, so Stubbs looks to be the cream of the crop in this Originals installment. Both titles are due for release Monday, May 19 for 1200 MSP each.

Microsoft just announced that both Wideload Games' Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse and Midway's Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows are headed to the XBLM as Xbox Originals next Monday, May 19th. Yuppers ...As always, each title will cost 1200 Microsoft points, have no achievements and play exactly as it did on the original Xbox plus any quirks that are introduced thanks to the 360's emulation. But we're going to be optimistic this time and be excited about these new Xbox Originals, because we've been told that we've been too negative in the past when talking about these oh so grand downloads. So, as we smile from ear to ear, enjoy next Monday's entertaining, convenient and affordable Stubbs and Gauntlet Xbox Originals downloads that are sure to put a smile on any fanboys' face. Insert awkwardly large fake smile here.

We know you're keen to see what super spy Sam Fisher was up to before he started digging Linkin Park CDs into his wrists, so we wholeheartedly suggest you check out what many consider to be his best espionage entry, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. And if you absolutely can't find it on Xbox for less than 15 bucks, know that it's now available on the Xbox Originals download service. If you'd rather not choke terrorists or contemplate why nobody can see a man with a Christmas tree on his head, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System should provide your "shoot first, shoot some more and then forget what you were going to ask" fix. Other fixes include (but are not limited to) "robots," "gun-toting robots" and "gun-toting robots shooting gun-toting robots." It's $15 (1,200 MS Points) for this one too.
