Dell's XPS M2010 now sporting slot-loading Blu-ray drive
We've got all ideas that anyone crushing on Dell's awkward, albeit expansive, XPS M2010 probably already has one by now, but if you've just started falling for the unsightly beast, this one just may pull the trigger for you. Just over a week after cramming half a terabyte of hard drive space into the machine, Dell is now offering up an internal slot-loading 2x speed Blu-ray burner for the HD set. As expected, this newfangled luxury won't run you cheap, as the BD-equipped machine will run you upwards of $4,000 -- and that's before the upgrade bug attacks at the checkout aisle.[Via NotebookReview]
Manhattan adventures with a 20-inch "laptop"
Those crazies over at LAPTOP Magazine got it in their heads to do a bit of social experimentin' with one of Dell's 18 pound XPS M2010 monstrosities. They lugged the 20-inch system through the subway, a Starbucks and a park in search of reactions from Manhattanites, and while we won't spoil all the surprises, the fact that they even got noticed on the subway is quite a testament to the fact that this thing just doesn't belong off a desk. (We even got mugged and beaten for our RAZR one time, and not a person batted an eye.) In summary, you'd have to be a bit off your rocker -- and/or an editor at a consumer tech magazine with way too much free time -- to attempt a portable lifestyle with the M2010, but we're guessing you could've figured that one out one your own.
Dell XPS M2010 gets official
Well, we never really thought they'd have the guts to do it, but those kooky cats over at Dell just outted the XPS M2010 first seen at CES. It's not a laptop, it's not a desktop, it's, well, something in between which isn't always the best place to be. The XPS M2010 is pretty much spot-on to those leaked specs, meaning this roughly $4000 (about $8,000 fully spec'd) Windows Media Center PC maxes-out with a 2.16GHz Core Duo T2600, up to 4GB of dual-channel DDR2 memory, a 20.1-inch 1680 x 1050 LCD driven by a 256MB RADEON X1800 graphics card, up to 240GB of RAID 0/1 capable disk, 802.11a/b/g WiFi and a host of other features including a detachable Bluetooth keyboard with mouse, 1.3 megapixel cam integrated into the display bezel, and 8 built-in speakers with subwoofer and integrated high-definition audio. Portable? Well, this hog folds and has a handle but at nearly 20-pounds, you won't likely be taking it any further than the nearest LAN party. [Thanks, Andrew G]
