Photo courtesy of David Jones, @d_jones San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, a longtime venue for Apple product introductions, is having window banners installed in preparation for the upcoming product announcement event scheduled for October 22. In case you're wondering what the building will look like when the crew is done, David Jones provided us with a photo of the layout (detail of original photo): In other news about the event, a source revealed to TUAW that Mac announcements are definitely on the agenda for Tuesday. Our take? Apple will at least announce the ship date for the Mac Pro, we'll probably see a speed and capability bump in the Retina MacBook Pro line, and -- we're going out on a limb here -- perhaps a 4K Cinema Display will be on tap. Be sure to join TUAW on Tuesday for our metaliveblog of the Apple event, followed on Tuesday afternoon by a special edition of TUAW TV Live.

What does the media queue for a major launch event look like? Picture the line in front of an Apple Store before any new product hits the shelves, add in a few hundred cameras and sat trucks, and there you go. Weather-wise, the scene is a bit dreary outside the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in downtown San Francisco, but things are undoubtedly heating up inside the relatively petite venue, beyond those black velvet ropes and the white polo shirt-clad security team. The scene outside will be long forgotten less than an hour from now, so click through the gallery below before it fades to irrelevancy, then hit up our liveblog to catch all the action inside.%Gallery-165048%

Is the long, treacherous wait for the iPad 3 nearly at an end? That's what anonymous sources tell All Things D. The site caught wind that an Apple event next month will host the announcement of the company's latest tablet. The event is said to be slated for the first week of March at that popular Apple haunt, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco -- and seeing as how last year's event was held on March 2nd, that timing doesn't seem all that crazy to us. As for an actual release date, said sources are a bit less chatty.

In the past, Apple has held its major press events at the Yerba Buena center in San Francisco. All the iPhone and the iPad announcements were held in this venue. According to a report from AllThingsD, Apple's may buck this trend and hold its rumored October iPhone announcement at its Cupertino campus. The reasons for this change are not clear. It may have to do with the availability of Yerba Beuna Center or the decision of new CEO Tim Cook who may prefer to keep things closer to home. Hopefully, all this speculation about where and when this event will be held can be put to rest soon. If the rumored October date is correct, invitations should start landing in attendee's inboxes sometime this week.

We were all glued to our computers watching the latest feeds of what was happening inside at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on January 27th, but what was going on outside? Thanks to Current TV's infoMania Tech Reporter Ben Hoffman (who was never going to get through the doors under any condition), we now know. Check out their segment below, it's worth it alone for the pestering Hoffman gave to our sister site's Editor-in-chief, Joshua Topolsky.

And just like that, Apple's yearly iPod event is happening. According to an email we've just received, it looks like all those rumors we heard turned out to be true. The big A will be holding the proceedings at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco (go figure), and guess what? We'll be there live.
