  • WildStar bans thousands of botters

Carbine Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney informed the WildStar community last night that the team is waging a serious fight against botters, having suspended 7,300 accounts in the last few days. "Obviously 7,300 is a tiny fraction of the overall player base, but it's a noticeable chunk of the current bots," Gaffney wrote. He pointed out that over half of those accounts were regular players who had their accounts hijacked and urged players to use two-factor authentication as a preventative measure. To aid in the war against bots, the team will be improving the reporting process and tuning its automated bot detection. Gaffney said that the studio will be unrelenting in its prosecution of such accounts: "We're attacking this with a full-spectrum approach as a placeholder until we get to the better tools that should help in the short-medium term. We acknowledge it sucks when you see obvious cheaters, and we're working to eliminate it."

You haven't lived until you've seen the most recent threat to Azeroth: a Pandaren Lich King. The newest machinima from AFK Players portrays the final experience in our beloved game: Hearthstone: The Ultimate Expansion. Make sure you stay through the credits to hear the very special music mix. It's hard to compare to AFK Players. They consistently knock it out of the park in terms of content, humor, and sheer animation. And now that they've tackled Hearthstone for real, I feel like we can all relax and build our new decks together. Interested in the wide world of machinima? I don't envy the BlizzCon movie judges. Faced with the array of videos submitted this year, choosing between them must have been incredibly difficult. Just Another Morning by AFK Players puts Garrosh in a whole new light, one that none of us could have expected. This was truly an outstanding video. While it may not have won, I can confidently say this is one of the best machinima I have ever seen. Take the time watch it. This is simply brilliant stuff. Interested in the wide world of machinima? AFK Players have returned with a sequel to Quest Busters. It's hard to find the words to properly describe Quest Busters Episode 2 - Those Bears Up There. With mindblowingly good animation, astounding flow, and a hilariously engaging script, this machinima will easily be one of the best WoW videos of the year. Don't let yourself miss out on the astounding appearance of Thor Ultralisk of Void Ray EX. It is one and a half minutes of pure joy, all wrapped up in a clever parody song. Of course, Thor Ultralisk isn't the only in-joke in the video, but you can spot plenty of your own. Thanks to the AFK Players for an unbelievably good video. Here's hoping you find a tree of your own, one day in the near future. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Well, this is it. AFK Players have released the third episode of Anton Pourqoi No Rerolls: Pandaria. In a word, it's absolutely amazing. Including mind-blowing animation, pop culture references, and a wicked sense of humor, the Anton Pourqoi series might be the finest machinima we've seen in 2012. I'm really sad to see the series end. Hopefully, the AFK Players will stay around for a while longer and we'll get the chance to see more panda shenanigans. I think the Street Fighter bit was my favorite, though the Bruce Lee references totally win. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! With the Mists of Pandaria rolling into town within weeks, the machinima scene is finally picking up its own steam again. Few new releases are as exciting as the newest video from AFK Players. Anton Pourqoi - No Rerolls is a travelogue through the beer-soaked island of Pandaria. Featuring plenty of commentary about the alcohol, meals, and essential pandarian characteristics, Anton tells you what you need to know about our new panda allies. The Dranei bits were a tiny bit disconcerting but I think the comedy worked out well. Two more episodes will be released; the next one is expected in about 10 days. It's been a while since we've taken another look at Major League Azeroth, by AFK Players. If you want to talk about a unique, amazing vision for WoW machinima, you don't need to go any further than here. I'm blown away by how contemporary the video still looks. Granted, part of that is probably that WoW's graphics haven't been massively updated; the game looks a little better, but we still have basically the same visual elements. So when we look at a video from 2009, we don't instantly think, "OMG, what was this drawn in MS Paint or something?" I'm not really a huge baseball fan, but not much about Major League Azeroth is really about baseball per se. Take the time to check it out and let us know what you think. We've featured the AFK Players previously, but it's been a while since we've heard from them. The AFK Players are well known for amazing graphics, a catchy sense of humor, and witty, strong narratives. They've now released what may be one of the finest machinima videos ever created, ranking up right up there with BLIND. Does that sound like big praise? It's meant to be. Even Mat McCurley said "Like, this is too good." Quest Busters has it all; absolutely astounding graphics, great pacing, and powerful characters. The animation in the video is unbelievably good. Tanx and Wiki instantly won my heart. The characterization and design of each character was pitch-perfect, and the animation tells you everything you need to know about their relation. The story is fun and includes one hell of a twist ending. I fervently hope we see future episodes. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • YS Online wants you to bomb botters

Botters can be a hassle. Trust us, we know. We too have felt the sting of automatic programming when waiting for that quest monster to spawn, or for that rare monster pops up on the battlefield. Sure, we can report the problem to Game Masters for them to fix, but that's not even a full guarantee that the problem will be taken care of. Plus, don't you always love the satisifaction of dealing with botters yourself? Now you can take matters into your own hands in YS Online, the currently Europe only MMO based off of the popular YS series of RPGs. YS offers all players the ability to carry items known as Auto Bombs, which are available from all vendors for 1 copper a piece. All one has to do is simply take the bomb and throw it at the supposed botter. Once it hits, they'll have a small window to complete a simple captcha -- a word shown in picture format that they have to type into the box below the picture. If they fail to complete the captcha, they'll gain a debuff where they can't do anything for 30 minutes. Painful, no?

AFK Pl@yers over at Myndflame have created Wrath of a Couch Potato, inspired by Seth Green's acclaimed "Robot Chicken" series. The movie runs a little over 8 minutes in its entirety, and the experience is kind of intense. I suggest watching it somewhere you can really pay attention. I hate to gush, but I really loved this movie. It's packed with laugh-out-loud moments, and each segment lasts only long enough to deliver a solid joke. The production values are through the roof. Each scene is well framed, and put together with an eye for detail. There's more than a few quotes in here that you can expect to permeat the Trade channel's zeitgeist for the next few months. So, to be fair, if you get annoyed by people endlessly quoting good machinima films, you might get annoyed from what comes out of "Wrath of a Couch Potato." When an orc suddenly finds himself unfrozen after years of being trapped in his icy dungeon, he has plenty of questions for his accidental rescuer, Patchie,an enterprising goblin. Starting at patch 1.05, Patchie attempts to catch the orc up to speed on everything that's happened, while simultaneously putting him to work. As their stories unfold, we find out how the orc came to be frozen, and about Patchie's ethics, which are questionable at best. The AFK Pl@yers created The Patchie Chronicles in December to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of World of Warcraft launching in Taiwan. Despite Patchie's flaws, I was so taken by the character that I suggested they base a whole series around him! Is there a character in a Machinima that you'd like to see a series about?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]

When an enterprising goblin miner, Patchie, accidentally releases an orc that has been frozen for years, they have a lot of catching up to do. Starting at patch 1.05, they take us on a storytelling journey, seen through the eyes of the major characters. Along the way, there are epic battles, potion selling, and a friend using his fortune to open a ... zoo? As Patchie and the orc arrive at their destination, with golden piggy in hand, the orc has an opportunity to meet his hero, Thrall. After becoming disillusioned and temporarily losing his way, he sets off to be a hero in his own right. However, everything is not as it seems! The AFK PL@YERS, a Taiwanese machinima team, created The Patchie Chronicles to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of WoW launching in Taiwan. Most viewers will have to pay close attention, as it is narrated in Chinese, but subtitled in English.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

  • WoW Moviewatch & World Wide WoW: Azeroth Movie Top 3

You already know that World of Warcraft is a global phenomenon, but did you know that machinima is international too? This show is by AFK Pl@ayers, a group of Taiwanese machinima makers who have done some quality work and earned an exalted reputation in Taiwan. It pokes fun at those "best movie of the week" countdowns that you sometimes see on entertainment shows with a hip young host getting excited and showing you the latest trailers. Most of it is in Chinese with English subtitles, but you'll be happy to see that one of the movies they show a trailer for is actually in English! Personally, I think this is classic, but I hope you all don't mind subtitles too much. English-speakers are truly lucky to have so much great media produced in our own language, whereas other countries are used to watching dubbed or subtitled Hollywood films all the time. You may not be able to understand Chinese, but I think you may get a sense of their emotions from the tones of voice they use when they talk -- their Chinese voice acting is excellent, and their little bit of English acting is quite good too, considering it's their second language!Previously on WoW Moviewatch...
